3C0C, ANNOBON ISLAND
Operators Elmo/EA5BYP (SSB and RTTY) and Javi/EA5KM (CW and SSB) are now active as 3C0C from Annobon Island (AF-039) until June 20th. Activity will be on 160-6 meters using CW, SSB and RTTY, with an emphasis on the lower bands and CW. They will try to have two stations on the air, but remember that they are only two operators, so please be patient. On their Web page they reported on June 13th, that due to strong storms some antennas were destroyed. On Monday, June 14th, 3C0C will not be active, and the team will be standby to repair all the antennas once again.

They state, "....many QRM on top bands, so was not possible be on the air on 80 and 160m. Anyway they will try next days. A couple of days ago they have some problems with one of the power generators... as you can see this is not a Resort and they are tired. In next days they will try to work more for NA, at the moment the propagation was not very strong. They are making a big effort to be on the air." DX0, SPRATLY ISLANDS (Update)
Jim Linton/VK3PC, DX0DX Public Affairs, reported to OPDX on June 13th (edited): "Team Leader Chris Dimitrijevic, VK3FY, has just returned from The Philippines where he held high level discussions related to the DX0DX DXPedition being held in January 2011.

A series of meetings included one with the current Municipal Mayor of Paga-Asa (Thitu Island) where the DXpedition will be mounted. Later he met with the Mayor-Designate who will take office in September, and at that time current Mayor becomes the Vice-Mayor.

Other discussions were held with military authorities plus officials of the IARU member radio society, Philippines Amateur Radio Association (PARA) which is strongly in support of the DXpedition.

Chris VK3FY said, 'Those face-to-face discussions enabled the amateur radio and humanitarian aims of the DXpedition to be fully explained and agreed, and also clarified the requirements of both local and federal authorities.

The result has been universal support for the activity. The next step is to complete the necessary immigration procedures for each non-Filipino national radio amateur that will be part of the DXpedition. Once that is completed a formal letter of approval is to be issued.

The team is mindful that it not only has to meet the requirements of The Philippines authorities but also those of the DXCC Committee to have the DXpedition accredited.'

At the 2010 PARA Hamvention & 17th International Grand Eyeball June 4-6th, Ed Valdez, DU1EV, who will on the DX0DX team, made a presentation on the two previous DXpedition to the island (DX0K 2005 and DX0JP 2007), and finished off by announcing the January 2011 DXpedition.

The announcement of such a major proposed activation, in terms of numbers of operators (30) and duration (3 weeks) resulted in a standing ovation being given to that news.

Ed/DU1EV and Chris/VK3FY spent a lot of time talking to some of the 300 delegates who were keenly interested to learn all they could about it. The next few months will be extremely busy with further work on arranging supplies, logistics, customs clearances, and finalizing sponsorship and funding support.

A multi-nation team of 30 radio amateurs will operate ten HF stations CW (4), SSB (4) and RTTY (2), plus a VHF-UHF Station on 6m/2m /70cm and 23cm. That range of stations appears best suited in response to the known demands of the DX community. Sponsorship support has so far come

from ICOM America, Ham Radio Outlet, Spiderbeam, WX0B Array Solutions, Heil Sound and DX Engineering. Individual donations via PayPal are welcome.

'The team is highly motivated with each individual member preparing themselves for the trip to the Philippines and then on to island for this major DXpedition,' concluded Chris VK3FY." For more details visit:

XV2/XV4, VIETNAM
Mal, VK6LC, will once again be returning to Vietnam between August 12th and September 10th. He is calling this "DX-Vocation". His trip is to do remedial repair work on the antennas in Ho Chi Minh City and to activate his old station XV2LC again. He also states, "As a special from the deep south, I will operate from the majestic tropical Mekong Delta as XV4LC." Activity will take place from two different locations:

     1) First QTH will be near the famous floating Mekong River "Cai Rang" floating markets in Can Tho (pronounced as "con kur"). Here he will use a Delta Loop for 40/20/15m and a Quad Loop for 17m. Operating CW and SSB.

     2) Mal will then operate from a farm near Soc Trang located on the Mekong River Plains. This operation will be predominately CW with some SSB using all portable equipment and antennas. He states, "Space being not a problem here, I will try for 160m."

QSL both operations via VK6LC. For some pictures, see XV2LC and XV4LC on (QRZ.com).

YJ0, VANUATU
Bill Horner, VK4FW, President of the ODXG (Oceania Amateur Radio DX Group Inc.), is looking at the viability of running a 7 day DXpedition to Vanuatu (YJ0). Chris, VK3QB, will be the DXpedition leader and is in the process of finalizing a viability study. The emphasis will be on having fun, working some DX and handing out QSOs for what is still a reasonably sought after entity. Depending on how many people are on this DXpedition, the plan will be to run 2 stations using wire dipoles and verticals. They are aiming to make about 5,000 to 7,000 QSOs over the five days and nights of the operation. At this stage, they are looking at running this DXpedition in the 2nd half of August or first week of September.

Final details and stations/bands/modes will not be announced until they get to the next phase of planning and this won’t commence until Bill has at least 4 people on the list. This expedition will be limited to 6 people, so if you are interested please contact Chris, VK3QB, as soon as possible at vk3qb@wia.org.au or phone 0429 187 593.

YP1, ROMANIA (WFF Op!)
A group of Romanian hams will again activate Danube Delta (YOFF-021) between June 23-29th. They will use the callsign YP1WFF/MM because the expedition will be on a boat on the second biggest European river delta. After traveling on each of Danube's Arms, they will also try to activate local lighthouses, so be alert on DXClusters! QSL via YO3JW. For more info, visit the Romanian WFF Web page at:
