4U1A, SWITZERLAND (Awareness about HIV/AIDS through Amateur Radio)
According to UNAIDS (the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS),
estimates, there are now 33.2 million people living with HIV, including
2.5 million children. During 2008, some 2.5 million people became newly
infected with the virus. Around half of all people who become infected
with HIV do so before they are 25 and die of AIDS-related illnesses
before they are 35. Around 95% of people living with HIV reside in
developing countries. However, HIV today is a threat to men, women and
children throughout the world. Started on December 1st, 1988, the aim
of "World AIDS Day" is to raise money, increase awareness, fight prejudice
and improve education. "World AIDS Day" is important in reminding
people that HIV has not gone away, and that much still needs to be done.
A special amateur radio station will be operating at UNAIDS HQ in Geneva, Switzerland, from December 1-7th, 2009, with the special event callsign 4U1AIDS. They invite people to observe the "World AIDS Day" and demonstrate global HIV awareness.
International World Aids Day 2009 Amateur Radio Certificate: Those amateur radio stations which have a radio contact with 4U1AIDS on any 3 amateur radio bands, will awarded a special commemorative certificate “World AIDS Day Award”.
Amateur radio stations that have radio contact with 4U1AIDS on 5 amateur radio bands will be awarded a special commemorative UNAIDS pennant. Special QSL card: For each radio contact with 4U1AIDS, a special QSL card will be sent.

5H, TANZANIA
Harald, DL7VSN, is once again heading to Tanzania and will
probably be active as 5H1HS, this time from the Kilimanjaro area, starting
on November 1st. His length of stay was not mentioned. Activity will be
160-10 meters using mainly CW and RTTY. He will use various dipoles with
100 watts. If all plans go well, Harald may activate his 5th IOTA group
from this DXCC entity for one or two days. Harald will also be in the
Serengeti and Tarangire National Park starting November 18th, and hopes
to be active from these areas. QSL via his home callsign.
5R, MADAGASCAR (Update/Also ZS5)
Sam, G4OHX, will be active as 5R8HX
from Madagascar (IOTA AF-013 and WLOTA L2455) between December 28th and
January 3rd (2010). Activity will be mainly CW. He will also be active
from South Africa as ZS5/G4OHX between January 4-17th. QSL via his home
callsign direct only.
8R, GUYANA (Update)
Paulo, PV8DX, a member/part of the "Amateur Brazilian
Team", will be active as 8R1PY from Lethem, between now and November 4th.
He states that he will try 160 meters. However, there is no electricity
during the night, and he will use a generator, which is noisy. Other
activity will be on 160-6 meters, including 30/17/12 meters, using CW,
SSB, RTTY and PSK31. Other operators mentioned are: Edi/PU8TEP, Abilio/
PV8AZ, Ivan/PV8IG, Ivan/PY1YB, Anderson/PY2TNT and Alex/PY2WAS. QSL via

9J, ZAMBIA
Niko, S53A, will once again be active as 9J3A from The Hippo
Lodge,
9V, SINGAPORE
James, 9V1JP, is a new operator from here and has been
active on 20 meters. He states on QRZ.com that he is "in a very challenging
environment and is trying hard to put out a decent signal on HF." He
also states, "If you need a QSL card, please be patient. I am in the
process of designing them, and they should be good and ready in the spring
of 2010."
BA4, CHINA
Yoshihiro, JK2VOC, will be active from Dale's, BA4TB, QTH
between November 27-30th. He will also be in the CQWW DX CW Contest

Operators Andy/LZ2HM, Ken/G0ORH and possibly others will be
active as C4I during the CQWW DX CW Contest (November 28-29th). QSL via

CARIBBEAN TOUR
Mike, DF8AN, will once again be active from the Caribbean.
This time from two DXCC entities. He should be on the air by the time
you read this. His schedule is as follows:
Galapagos Islands (HC8) - HC8/DF8AN between now and November 7th
Netherlands Antilles (PJ4) - PJ4/DF8AN from the Island of Bonaire
between November 7-16th.
Activity will be mainly CW. He will be using wire antennas. QSL via
DF8AN, by the Bureay or direct.
CE0, EASTER ISLAND (SA-001)
Roberto, YV5IAL, will be active as CE0/YV5IAL
between January 8-11th. This will be a QRP, portable, holiday style
operation. Activity will be on PSK31 digital mode on 14070.15 kHz from
2200-0100z, and occasionally on 40/30/15 meters. QSL via his home callsign.
CR3/CT3, MADEIRA ISLANDS (Update/QSL Change)
Jose, CT1BOH, will be
using the special callsign CR3E during the CQWW DX CW Contest (November
28-29th) as a Single-Op/All-Band entry. He will use the callsign CT3NT
before the contest starting November 24th. All QSOs will be uploaded

EF8, CANARY ISLANDS
Val, RD3AF, will be active as EF8M from Santa Maria
de Guia, Las Palmas Gran Canaria (AF-004, DIE S-005, WLOTA L 0969) during
the CQWW DX CW Contest (November 28-29th) as a Single-Op/All-Band/ High-

EL, LIBERIA
Chris, ZS6RI (aka-ZS8IR, ZD9IR, 5H9IR), is expected to be
here for about six weeks starting at the beginning of November. His
callsign will be EL8RI. Activity will be QRP on the HF bands (mentioned
40/20/30m) using CW, SSB and the Digital modes. After his 6 week stay,
he will return home and then return to EL-land after 3 weeks. QSL EL8RI
via ZS6RI.
GD/MD, ISLE OF MAN
Operators Ron/PA3EWP and Tom/GM4FDM will be active
as MD/PA3EWP and GD4FDM, respectively, between November 7-9th. Activity
will be on the HF bands. QSL MD/PA3EWP via PA7FM and GD4FDM via GM4FDM.
GU, GUERNSEY
Bob, GU4YOX, will be active during the CQWW DX CW Contest
(November 28-29th) as a Single-Op/Single-Band (20m)/Low-Power entry.

HB0, LIECHTENSTEIN
Operators Kazik/DL2SBY, Tomi/HA4DX and Laci/HA0HW
will once again operate from Masessa between November 6-13th. Their main
focus will be to do as many QSOs as possible on the 160, 80 and 40
meter bands. They will have 3 radios (2 with amplifiers). On 160m, they
will use a 18m Spiderpole inverted L; on 80m an inverted Vee and a loaded
GP; and on 40m a GP on another 12m Spiderpole. For the upper bands they
will have a Spider beam on top of a 11m mast. Operations will be mostly
CW, but some SSB also expected. QSL by the Bureau to each appropriate
operator.
HC8, GALAPAGOS ISLANDS (Update)
A group of the contesters from Quito
Radio Club will be active as HC8N from Isla de San Cristobal (SA-004,
WLOTA L0094) during the CQWW DX CW Contest (November 28-29th) as a
Multi-Multi entry. Some of the operators mentioned (and the bands that
they will be on) are: Dave/N3RD (40m), Bob/W6RGG (20m), Dennis/K2SX (10m)
and possibly others. QSL via W5UE.
HS, THAILAND (Good News)
John, W2YR (aka-HS0ZDJ), informs OPDX that he
just received this information from the International Secretary of the
Radio Amateur Society of Thailand: FYI - the NTC is the National Tele-
communications Council akin to our FCC in the USA -- "Hi, Good news
(just received from Narissara, HS1CHB): the NTC has approved the RAST
request made recently for the expansion of the 7-MHz for amateur radio
on a primary basis in Thailand from 7.0-7.1 to 7.0-7.2 MHz. (This had
been approved internationally at the WRC-03 conference and was to be
effective March 29 this year, pending approval on a country-by-country
basis.) This becomes effective "next Friday," which I take to be November
6th, 2009."
IOTA NEWS
EU-031. Operators Alfredo/IK7JWX, Alessandro/IW8EHK, Leopoldo/I8LWL
and Titti/IK8GQY (YL) will join Raul/IC8ATA and be active as
IC8/homecall from Procida Island (I.I.A. NA-002, Grid JN70BR)
between November 68th. Activity will be on all HF bands and
6 meters using SSB, RTTY and PSK31. It is possible that the
group may operate from Ischia (Grid JN60XR) and Vivara Islands
(Grid JN70AR) also.
NA-062. (Update/Reminder) Mark, KG8DP, will once again activate Grassey Key between November 2-9th. Operations will be stationary at Grassey Key (on the beach) and mobile as he travels to Key West and all points on the ocean. He will use the callsigns KG8DP, KG8DP/M, NA8KD or NA8KD/m. This will be a week trip. QSL all callsigns via info on QRZ.com (w/SASE). Mark will be using an IC-7000, 1.2 kw amp mobile and GLA-1000B portable amp. Antenna will be Tarheel M-100's.
ADDED NOTES BY MARK: He states, "This trip will have plenty of ham radio, but he will be announcing an engagement of marriage to his future wife to be on 10/10/10. Look for him on the trip heading back as he will be activating different counties for the county hunters. Frequencies will be the county hunters, 14.336 and 7.188 MHz and the normal IOTA frequencies. SA-062. (Update) With the support of the Island Radio Expedition Foundation (IREF), the Araucaria DX Group and the ForDX, a group of operators will be activating Coroa Vermelha Island and Coroa Da Barra Island, including the Lighthouse (ARLHS BRA-029), as PW6C between November 11-18th. Activity will be on 80-10 meters, including 17 and 12 meters, using CW and SSB. The team members are Leo/PP1CZ, Andre/PY0FF, Renner/PY7RP, Jim/PY7XC, Ciro/PY7ZY and Mike/K9AJ. QSL via K9AJ. SA-071. (RARE IOTA) Operators Fred/PY2XB and Alex/PY2WAS will activate Cabras Island between November 19-23rd. IOTA SA-071 continues to have a high demand among IOTA program participants. They will use the callsign PW2IO (PY2XB) and PW2TA (PY2WAS), operating two separate stations running 300w and 100w, respectively. The antennas will be a yagi for 20/17/15m, and a multi-band ZEP. The team guarantees that at least one station will be on the air around the clock. Both stations will work CW and SSB. The main bands to be used are 40/30/20/ 17/15 meters on the IOTA frequencies. Alternative frequencies may be used if necessary. As far as they know, Cabras Island has never been activated. The team will need to take a lot of supplies to the island, including fuel, generator and batteries for energy. The landing on the island is difficult and the operation may be postponed in case of bad sea. Updates will be forwarded through Luke, PT7WA. Additional information will be available at (QRZ.com). J5, GUINEA-BISSAU
Joao, CT2GQA, will be here for the next five years.

JD, OGASAWARA
Kirk, JF3MYU, will be active as JD1BNN between March
28-31st (2010). He is expected to be there with three other operators
who will be staying long (hopefully more details will be forthcoming).
Kirk's activity will be focused on the WARC bands. QSL is "OK" via
JARL Bureau, but write JD1BNN on your QSL (so it can be sorted easily).

K0,UNITED STATES (Special Event)
Members of the EARS (Emporia Amateur
Radio Society - KB0SSR) will activate special event station K0V on November
7th and on Veterans Day, November 11th, to honor U.S. Veterans. The special
event station will be located adjacent to the Emporia All Veterans
Memorial. Operating times will be as follows:
November 7th - 1900-2300z (1-5PM CST)
November 11th - 1400-2400z (8AM-6PM CST); on Veterans Day
Suggested frequencies are: 14268, 7262 and 3920 kHz (+/- 20 kHz). Other
frequencies may be used depending on QRM and/or propagation. They may
also try some Digital QSOs, especially on Saturday, November 7th. Operating
hours maybe extend on the 11th beyond 2400z (6PM CST), depending on various
factors (such as operator fatigue, band conditions and the need for a QSO).

Special event station PW2SIDC has been

4W6FR AND VK9LA OQRS PROBLEMS. QSL MANAGER Bill, VK4FW, announced this past weekend (October 31st): "Today, out of the blue, my faithful laptop has given up the ghost, worse is that the external backup stick drive has also collapsed (all suspected from an AC surge). FT5GA ON LOTW. Didier, F5OGL, announced on Tuesday, October 27th, that the FT5GA log has been uploaded to the LoTW at 1235z. He states (edited), "Of course some stations will not find one or several of their QSOs on LoTW. To these hams I say 'don't worry!'. Every situation will be checked with big care. It had been possible, in the huge pile ups, that some mistakes happened. However, know also that FT5GA was pirated a lot of times, even on the scheduled DXpedition frequencies. These malevolences are not of our fact, and we ask the community to under- stand us if some QSOs will be rejected for having not be found in the log."
NCDXF PRESS RELEASE (K4M and LoTW). "NCDXF (Northern California DX Foundation) will be sending the K4M webmaster, Don, N1DG, a complete list of all contributors for K4M LoTW upload. DID YOU WORK KP4AO on November 1st? Special event station KP4AO was activated by the A.R.C. Arecibo Observatory. Activity was to celebrate 46th anniversary of operations at the Arecibo Observatory Radio Tele- scope (still the single largest radio telescope antenna in the world). Also, they will commemorate the 35th anniversary of the Arecibo Message, which was sent on November 16, 1974, in binary code and transmitted to the globular star cluster M13, for if it is received by intelligent life, it will let them know about our existence..... VK9GWM QSL CARDS. It has been reported by Chris, HA5X/HG5XA, that he hopes all of you have received your VK9GMW cards by now, especially direct and OQRS requests. He states, "Although designing and printing the cards took a bit longer than expected, the OQRS system helped a lot in processing the requests. Tomi, HA7RY, was very busy the past few months processing all remaining requests for VK9WWI, 5K0T and VK9GMW QSL cards, and even if somebody had sent a request for only one of the expeditions, he checked if the same callsign was there in the other expedition logs and automatically sent a card for that expedition as well. Cards and OQRS requests for VK9GMW are still coming in and they will be processed after Tomi has returned from the currently ongoing TX3A expedition."

SOTA DAY
The North American "Summits on the Air" (SOTA) activation
day, is Saturday, November 14th. The four North American associations
of "Summits on the Air" are planning a multi-summit activation spanning
the North American continent. Portable, mountain top stations will be
operating from the VE2, W1, W2, and W6 call areas. The operators will
be using the extensive spotting and alerting system devised by the SOTA
organization. Seasoned "summit chasers" all over Europe will have the
opportunity to work expeditions on SOTA's western frontier, and a new
group of North American chasers will get a chance to work multiple summits.

T8, PALAU
Pista, HA5AO, will once again be active as T88CI from the
Island of Koror (OC-009) between November 25th and December 10th. This
will be a holiday style operation, and his activity will be on the HF
bands 80-10 meters, possibly 160m, mainly on CW. There is a chance he
may also be on SSB and RTTY. Pista will also be in the CQWW DX CW Contest
(November 28-29th) as a Single-Op/All-Band/High-Power entry. A log

TM1, FRANCE (Special Event)
Members of the Havre Radio Club (F8KHN)
will be active using the special callsign TM1TJV between November 4-8th.
Activity will be on all HF bands using several different modes. The
special event is to celebrate the departure of some 30 trans-Atlantic
sailing ships during the "Transat Jacques Vabre 2009" race between Le
Havre, France and Costa-Rica's Caribbean coast. QSL by the Bureau or

TX3, CHESTERFIELD ISLAND
By the time you read this, TX3A should be
close to Chesterfield Island (expected to arrive early Monday morning)
and may be on the air possibly Monday or Tuesday. Operators George/AA7JV
and Tomi/HA7RY have had to fight rough seas and had to anchor at
Saumarez Reef on October 27th for a fews day, but left again on October
31st. Latest reports -- "2 to 3 meter seas, with the boat rolling heavily."
The good news that was announced this past week was the TX3A license has
been extended, and they will be able to use the callsign between November
2nd and December 6th. For more detailed information and updates, visit

UR, UKRAINE (Contest/Mountain Op)
Operators Alex/R7IRK, Vladimir/US5ID,
Valery/UU1JN, Anatol/UU5JA, Elena/UV5ESZ and Roman/UY7IQ will be active
as homecall/p from Crimea on Karaby Mountain (1000m high ASL) between
November 2-9th. Activity will be on 160-10 meters, and the group will
take part in the Ukrainian DX Contest as UU5JZA. Reference numbers for
the Ukrainian Flora Fauna Award (UFF) is 201 and for the Ukrainian
Regional Districts Award (URDA) is KR07. QSL UU5JZA via UY7IQ.
VI5, AUSTRALIA (Special Event)
Members of the Elizabeth Amateur Radio
Club will activate the special event callsign VI50LZ between October
31st and November 8th. Activity is to celebrate the club's 50th anni-

VK9 C, L, M, N, W & X DELETED FROM DX EQUATION
The Australian Communi-
cations and Media Authority (ACMA) has decided to discontinue the use of
a VK9 callsign suffix letter to denote each of the six Australian external
territories, each a DX entity. The long-standing prefixes included VK9C
for Cocos (Keeling) Island, VK9L Lord Howe Island, VK9M Mellish Reef,
VK9N Norfolk Island, VK9W Willis Island and VK9X Christmas Island. For

VP2M, MONTSERRAT (Update)
Operators Tom/DL2RUM (as VP2MUM), Rudi/DM2XO
(as VP2MXO) and 3D20CR op Jan/DJ8NK (as VP2MNK) will operate from here
between November 3-16th. Activity will be on 160-10 meters using CW, SSB

VP8, FALKLAND ISLANDS (Update/Reminder)
Members of the CRAM and the
Uruguay DX Group will be active from Port Stanley between November
14-21st. They hope to start operations at their local sunset on the 14th,
starting on 40 meters, depending on transportation matters. The group
will sign VP8BUH on SSB and VP8BUG on CW/Digital modes. Their activity
will focus on the lower bands, Digital modes and the 30/17/12 meter bands.
They plan to have 3 stations on around the clock. Operators mentioned
include: Gus/CX2AM (CW), Gus/CX3CE (Low-Bander), Bert/CX3AN (CW/SSB),
Mario/CX4CR (CW, SSB and Digital), Luis/CX4AAJ (Digital - CQWW RTTY

VP9, BERMUDA
Mark, AA1AC, will be operating from the Hamilton Parish,
Bermuda, as VP9/AA1AC from December 6-12th. QSL via to his home callsign,

XR0, EASTER ISLAND (Update/Reminder)
By the time you read this, an
international team of operators will be active as XR0Y from Rapa Nui
between now and November 15th. This will be a lite and small DXpedition
with 6 operators. Operators are: Marco/CE6TBN, Leszek/NI1L, Aart/PA3C,
Zbig/SP7HOV, Stan/SQ8X and Victoria/SV2KBS. Their priority will be working
Europe on 30 meters CW (since there is an incredibly high demand on 30m),
and also 40 and 80m during the first 7 days of the DXpedition. This
means their focus will be on the European during the first half of their
activity. The second part of the DXpedition will be dedicated to all
continents (especially Africa and Asia [other than JA]). For more details,

be a NEW TYPE IRC VALID UNTIL 2013 (cards will be replied in 2010)
and must be stamped IN A COUNTRY OF DESTINATION. For instance they
can't reply to a card received from Japan if the IRC received from
Japan is stamped in the USA etc. Their Post Office refuses such
IRCs. If coins, no SAE, invalid or incorrectly stamped 2010 IRC or
insufficient funds to cover postage received = returned via bureau.

There will be an unique, extraordinary QSL card designed and printed
in a very limited amount available on voluntary request only via
OQRS. Due to special arrangements regarding printing this type of

LoTW & eQSL - They will upload logs to LoTW and eQSL after the DXpedition
in several months in 2010.
ONLINE LOG - Once they upload their first log, it will become available

around local midnight or morning hours (so approx. 6.00 or
12 UTC hours each day of the DXpedition). Online log is
subject to change due to conditions they will meet at the
island (Internet accessibility etc).
