3B7FQ ST. BRANDON ISLAND WRAP-UP REPORT (via K5XK)
Rachid, 3B8FQ, reports on his recent February trip to St. Brandon Island, operating as 3B7FQ. All his contacts were CW only due to loud generator noise. Operations was concentrated on 10 MHz and 18 MHz, with limited operations on 40 & 20M. By the 10th day, the battery was not recharging properly which resulted in reduced power and sending by hand key. Although propagation and conditions were poor, 1,500 QSOs were made operating just a few hours each day, in between maintenance on the meteorological equipment on the island. Color QSLs have been printed and are being mailed this week. QSL all of Rachid's operations (3B7FQ, 3B6FQ, 3B8FQ, and his upcoming July trip to 3B9FQ) via K5XK. 3B8, MAURITIUS (AF-049)
Operators Piotr/SP2JMR and Slavo/SP2JMB will be active as 3B8/homecall between now and April 17th. Activity will be on all bands using CW and SSB. QSL via their home callsign.

5C, MOROCCO (Update/IOTA Op)
Alfredo, IK7JWX, and a team of operators will activate Mogador Island (AF-065), April 19-25th. He announced this week, "After the terrible earthquake in Abruzzo - center Italy on 6th April, we decided that all surplus funds received will be assigned to the many people in that region who are suffering the effects of the earthquake. We will use official channels to send the money, and we will publish on these pages a paper certifying the donation. So we invite you, if you like and you can, to send any possible amount of money, that will be assigned to the earthquake victims." C6, BAHAMAS
A group of stateside operators will be active from Eleuthera (NA-001) with each using their own individual callsigns between April 17-24th. CQ MAGAZINE NAMES PUBLIC SERVICE EDITOR
In a news release by Richard Moseson/W2VU, Editor of CQ Amateur Radio, dated April 6th, 2009, it was reported: "Richard Fisher, KI6SN, of Riverside, California, has been named Public Service Editor of 'CQ Amateur Radio' magazine, Editor Rich Moseson, W2VU, announced today. Fisher, a veteran journalist, succeeds Bob Josuweit, WA3PZO, whose final column will appear in the May issue of 'CQ'. Josuweit, who has covered amateur radio emergency and public service communications for 'CQ VHF', and then for 'CQ', since 1996, is stepping down due to increased time demands at his full-time job.

Fisher has been a professional journalist for 35 years, working in various capacities for daily newspapers on both the east and west coasts. He is also a prolific writer on amateur radio matters, writing the 'Washington Beat' column for 'Popular Communications' and the 'Trail-Friendly Radio' column for 'WorldRadio Online'. He was previously QRP (low-power) editor of 'WorldRadio's' print edition. A ham since 1965, Fisher enjoys a wide variety of amateur radio activities, including QRP CW operating, outdoor operating, experimenting with antennas and building equipment. He is a co-founder of the Adventure Radio Society. ' I've loved 'CQ' since before my Novice days,' notes Fisher, 'so joining the team will be a thrill.'

Editor Rich Moseson added, 'While I will miss the close working relation- ship I have shared with Bob Josuweit for over a decade, and wish him all the best in the future, I look forward to working closely with Richard and to the added benefits he will bring to the column as a veteran professional journalist.' DAYTON HAMVENTION (RTTY Contesting Forum)
The Dayton RTTY forum will be held Saturday, May 16th, between 1200-1300, in Room 3 and will have a panel discussion on how best to accommodate the diversity of participants in RTTY contests. The vast majority of participants are not super-serious competitors and may only be on for a few contacts to work a new state/ province/country or to try out their station or simply to enjoy some RTTY contacts which are more scarce outside of contest periods. Each panelist will give a short statement of their perspective on participant diversity in RTTY contests and then be available to address questions and comments from the audience. Panelist will include K5DU, K4GMH, W2QO, and K4IA.

DAYTON HAMVENTION ARRL AWARDS CARD CHECKING
Bill Moore, NC1L, announced that card checking will be done at the ARRL National Convention in Dayton during all operating hours of the convention Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 15-17th, 2009. EG, SPAIN (Special Event)
Look for EG2IPY (WAP-174) to be active between April 13-19th. Activity is to celebrate the end of the International Polar Year 2007-2009. Operations will be on all bands and modes. QSL via EA2RC.

HB0, LIECHTENSTEIN (Update/Correction)
Operators Kasimir/DL2SBY and his friend Georg/DF1SR will be active from here between April 24th and May 4th. Activity will be on HF bands (80-10m) using CW, SSB and RTTY. Equipment will be a TS2000, FT900AT, Ameritron AL811, HF9V vertical and a monoband vertical for 30/40m. Activity will also take place on 13cm and 23cm using EME. Equipment will be a FT726R, Dish 3, 7m, and 2 amplifier for both bands. Kasmir and Georg will use two separate callsigns for this operation. For the HF bands, they will use HB0/DL2SBY and for the EME activity they will sign HB0/DF1SR. QSL via DL2SBY, by the Bureau or direct.

IOTA NEWS
EU-010. After a very successful DXpedition in 2008 to the Island of Mull, the members of the Camb-Hams have decided to go to the Island of Harris which is off the north west coast of Scotland. Activity will be on all HF bands (including 5 MHz) using SSB and Digital modes. There will also be activity on 6m, 4m, 2m and possibly 70cm (SSB, JT6m and MS). There will be lots of portable operations around the islands (possible interest to WAB chasers) and 3 very energetic climbers activating SOTA summits all week. The callsign will be the CRG (Cambridgeshire Repeater Group) callsign G3PYE, as the activation is in Scotland the prefix becomes GM3PYE/P or GS3PYE/P, both of which will be used. EU-042. Operators Siggi/DL3HBZ, Uli/DJ9IE, Helge/DF6LPC, Lothar/DL8HAL and Harry/DL5HAQ will be active as DK0RZ from Hooge Island (N-22 for the German Islands Award), April 15-17th. Activity will be on all bands and modes, propagation permitting. QSL via the DARC Bureau.

EU-090. The Team of German and Croatian operators will be active as 9A0CI from Palagruza Island (IOCA CI-084, WLOTA-0057, CLH-100, ARLHS-012) between May 9-16th. Activity will be on bands 160-6 meters (including 30/17/12m) using CW, SSB and the Digi modes. A online log will be available on the Web site at:

NA-058. Randy, AJ4RW, will be active from Cumberland Island, off the coast of Georgia, May 2nd. He will be on the air from approx. 1500-1930z on the frequencies of 14260 and 7225 kHz, alternating between the two bands as there is only one station scheduled as of right now, but this might change as soon as they move closer to the date of operation. Frequencies may also vary depending upon band conditions. This will be SSB operation only. QSL via his home callsign.

NA-083. Members of the QCWA Chapter 119 will do a combination special event station and RSGB IOTA Contest (July 25-26th) effort from Tangier Island, VA, in Chesapeake Bay. The callsign will be W4T commemorating the 400th anniversary of the mapping of Chesapeake Bay and Chapter 119's 30th anniversary. The history of Tangier Island will be promoted as part of this operation. The group's contest effort will be a Multi-Op entry. Operators mentioned are: Quint/K4CQW, Stu/K4MIL, Butch/KE4AZL, Terry/KI4RXC, Talley/W4TVG, Vic/W4VIC, Barry/K5VIP and Ron/W8RJL. The group will operate three stations - CW, SSB, and RTTY on all bands 80-6 meters as conditions permit. QSL via LoTW or K5VIP. NA-128. Members of the NA-128 Contest Group will activate the special callsign CG200I (Charly Golf Two Hundred India) from Ile Verte (C.IS.A QC-015, Grid FN58, ARLHS CAN-224, WLOTA 1404) between July 23-26th, during the IOTA Contest to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the lighthouse. Operators will be: Frank/VA2RC, Martin/VA2ZO, Eric/VE2EDA, Dany/VE2EBK, Jean/VE2FSK, Steve/ VE2TKH, Martin/VE2MTK and Guy/VE2QRA.

The group will operate many stations from the lighthouse keeper's quarters on all bands (160-6 meters) and all major modes (AO-51, SSB, CW and RTTY/PSK31). During the IOTA Contest a station will be dedicated to the contest exclusively on SBB or CW. QSL via VE2CQ (bureau or direct). ADDED NOTE: Built in 1809, the Ile Verte lighthouse is celebrating its 200th anniversary and many special activities will take place all summer long.

This lighthouse is the oldest in the St-Laurence River and the third oldest in Canada. It was declared a historical monument in 1976 by The Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada. A special stamp showing the lighthouse was released by Canada Post in 1984. The lighthouse is 54 feet high and is the main attraction on the island. It is open to the public, and there is also an inn where you can stay overnight.

SA-079. Members of the Rio DX Group and Labre will activate Rasa Island (DIB RJ-07, DFB-RJ-10, ARLHS - BRA-047) off the coast of Rio de Janeiero, as PT1R, May 1-5th. Activity will be on 160-2 meters using CW, SSB and the Digital modes with two stations. There will be also a station active on 6m and 2m for operations in the Araucaria VHF Contest. LN2, NORWAY (Special Event)
Members of the Radio Club of Gardermoen (LA2G) will be active using the special callsign LN2G between April 17-19th. This special callsign has been authorized in conjunction with the "Norwegian Hammeeting" (See http://www.hammeeting.no ). Activity will be mostly on 40 and 20 meters, SSB, PSK31 and RTTY. MDF IN NOVA SCOTIA
The Halifax Amateur Radio Club (HARC) invites DXers, contesters and HF enthusiasts to the 6th Annual Maritime DX Forum (MDF). On Friday, August 7th. A reception and registration will begin at 7:00 pm. The MDF program on Saturday, August 8th, will run from 8:30 am - 4:45 pm, followed by reception and the DX banquet at 6:00 pm.

OA4/OA7, PERU (Satellite Op)
Neven, 9A5YY, intends to operate on the satellites AO-51, AO-27 and SO-50 with his handheld Yaesu VX-7R and vertical antenna AL-800 during his stay in Peru between now and April 19th. Look for him to use the callsigns 9A5YY/OA4 from Lima and as 9A5YY/OA7 from Cuzco. Neven states, "I will be limited with time because of other obligations. I hope I will succeed to do some satellite QSOs. Please, listen and respond to me when you hear my CQ on the birds!"

OH0, ALAND ISLAND

P2, PAPUA NEW GUINEA (Update/IOTA Op)

S2, BANGLADESH
By the time you read this Ramon, DU1UGZ, is expected to be active as S21UGZ from Dhaka City until June 20th, depending on his work schedule. He will be using a low band dipole at first, so his emphasis will be on 80/40 meters SSB and RTTY. From May through June, he will be using a beam for 10, 12, 15, 17 and 20 meters. He hopes to have a linear in use starting in May as well. QSL via DU1UGZ.

SPECIAL EVENT
Members of the Sonoma County ACS (Aux. Comm. Service) and the Sonoma Mountain Repeater Society (SMRS) will activate special event station K6P from Petaluma, CA, on April 25th, between 1600-2300z. Members of the Michiana Amateur Radio Club (W9AB) will activate Monkey Island (Not an IOTA, USI IN-005R), located in the St. Joseph River in Mishawaka (St. Joseph County, WW Loc. VK9LA WRAP-UP AND COMMEMORATIVE T-SHIRT AUCTION

VK9M, MELLISH REEF (Update)
Operators George/AA7JV and Tomi/HA7RY, have had a tough job during this DXpedition -- fighting storms with heavy rains and winds. By the time you read this the operation should be over. On their last day of operation (April 12th), they reported that some of their antennas were destroyed, and the latest storm almost knocked down their tent. They also had to cannibalize parts of their beverage antenna to shore up the tent again. As of print time, their online log showed 17663 QSOs in the database (as of 2039z, April 10th).

PLEASE NOTE that their "Log Search" has not been updated with the QSOs that took place between April 9th, 2020z and April 10th, 0920z. There seems to be some issue with the WriteLog file for that period which they hope to fix later. VP2M, MONTSERRAT

ZD8, ASCENSION ISLAND (Update)
Karol, G0UNU, will be active as ZD8KR between May 4-11th. Activity will be mainly on 20 meters CW and SSB. Activity will only be during his spare time, but hopefully daily using IC-7000 and an inverted V dipole.
