100 POUND DXPEDITION (VP2M - Update)
Members of the "Buddipole Users on Montserrat" (BUMS) will mount a DXpedition to the island of Montserrat (NA-103) from January 29th to Feburary 6th, 2007. It seems DXpeditions have now moved from Microlite to Ultralite. DXpedition team members will pack light for this DXpedition taking only lightweight transceivers and portable antennas. The maximum equipment weight taken to the island will be 100 pounds per person. With this lightweight equipment, the team plans many on island portable operations in the hills, on the beach, and from the volcano observatory on the southern part of the island. The team members mentioned are: Budd/W3FF/VP2MFF, Chris/W6HFP/VP2MHF, Paul/KB9AVO/ VP2MVO, Mike/KC4VG/VP2MVG, Fred/W4OKW/VP2MTC, Robert/AB7ST/VP2MST, Dan/ WZ1P (No VP2 callsign yet) and Scott/NE1RD/VP2MRD. 1A4, SMOM (New Prefix!)
An E-mail from Amateur Radio Station of S.M.O.M. informs OPDX that starting January 2007 a new Amateur Radio Station license has been issued from "The Sovereign Military Order of Malta" (SMOM). The license 1A4A was issued by the S.M.O.M. and Giorgio, IZ4AKS, will be in charge of managing the station. The first activity of this station will take place between January 2-8th, 2007, from the extraterritorial zone of the Magistral Villa on the Aventine Hill in Rome. Operators will be Giorgio/IZ4AKS, Cortesi/IZ4DPV, Fabio/I4UFH, Gabriele/IK4UPB and Luca/IW0DJB (HV5PUL). Activity will be on 160-2 meters, SSB/CW/RTTY mode. Three stations will be active at same time, especially looking for DX areas such as Japan, South America and West coast. Emphasis will be on the low bands. QSL Manager is IZ4DPV.

The press release also mentions (edited): "The license has been granted into a fundraising program to support the worldwide relief activities of "The Order of Malta". The Order follows its historical hospital mission by providing help to the needy and the sick. Today the Order of Malta is a major global, professional organisation in terms of the humanitarian aid, medical care and emergency medicine it provides, in its management of hospitals, specialized homes for dependent elderly people, socio-medical care centers, the collection and transporting of medicines and the training of workers and ambulance staff. The Order currently has medical and humanitarian programs in more than 120 countries.

The first activity of 1A4A (One Aid 4 Africa) was set up to help collect funds to build a school for young girls, and as part of a support plan for the rebirth of South Sudan, coordinated by the Order of Malta, together with the Italian government."

4TH AAW NEWS
Members of Radio Amateur Club Swissair will participate in the "4th Antarctica Activity Week" (AAW), February 19-25th, using the special callsign HB9ICE from Switzerland. QSL via HB9BHY. Operators mentioned are Walter/HB9BHY (WAP Honor Roll), Hansruedi/HB9BHW, Peter/ HB9CET and Roland/HB9DPO. The WAP number for the HB9ICE operation is WAP-81.

7W0, ALGERIA
Operators Mike/DB1JAW and Michael/DK5MH will be active from the northern part of the Sahara using the special callsign 7W0JAW and 7W0MH, respectively, between February 2-10th. Activity will be on 24 hours a day on 80-10 meters, mainly on SSB with a little bit of PSK31 and RTTY (maybe). The mainly activity will be on the following suggested frequencies: 14185, 14290, 18120, 18150, 24950 and 24980 kHz. 8Q, MALDIVES
Andy, G7COD, will once again operate from Embudu Island, South Male Atoll, Maldives, for the second time as 8Q7AK between Sunday, January 21st and February 2nd. Activity will be on 30/20/17/15/12 meters mostly SSB with some CW. QSL cards direct to his home callsign G7COD. Alternatively, if you have access to the bureau, you can send them marked "via G7COD." Andy will return all QSL cards via the bureau; however, if you do not have access to a QSL Manager or the bureau, please inform him on your card, and instead he will send an EQSL. 9M0, SPRATLY ISLANDS (Update)
Tex, 9M2TO, informs OPDX this past week that the "Project 2007 Spratly Island 9M0 DXpedition by Team Blue Marlin Ventures" now has a callsign. The Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission has issued the callsign 9M2SDX. Look for activity from Pulau Layang Layang (AS-051) in the Spratly Island group to take place between March 9-19th. Operators will include members of the Malaysian Amateur Radio Transmitter’s Society (MARTS) and a group of JA operators. Malaysian operators mentioned are: Chow/9M2CF, Phoa/9M2KT, Tex/9M2TO and Yasumasa/ 9M8YY. JA operators mentioned are: Yoshiaki/JA1OCZ, Tack/JE1CKA, Harumi/ JF1PJK, Naoyuki/JK1FNL, Yasuyuki/JR1AIB, Kazuyuki/JR1VMX, Miho/JJ2VLY, Yutaka/JQ2GYU, Takashi/JR7TEQ and Kiyohiro/9M2/JH3GCN. AFRICAN ACTIVITY (6W & J5 Ops)
German operators Sid/DM2AYO, Mel/DL6CT and Hans/DL7CM will be active as 6W/DM2AYO, 6W/DL6CT and 6W/DL7CM from a hotel in Cap Skirring (GL:IK12pi), Senegal, between March 3-23rd. The trio will also find time to be active as J5UAR from a camp north of the Varela village (GL: IK12qh) in Guinea-Bissau, possibly between March 4-22nd. Activity from both places will be on 160-6 meters, CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK. Equipment will be an IC-706 with amp, a GP for lowbands, 5 band 2 element Yagi for the high bands and a 4 element Yagi for 6m. SR/SS for both locations are: 0655/1847z. BX0, TAIWAN
Operators Steve/N8BJQ, George/W8UVZ and Randy/W9ZR, along with several BV operators will be active as BX0ZR from January 8-21st. There will be activity on all bands with an emphasis on 160 and 80 meters. They will be using a Titanex vertical, beverages, and amplifiers from a rural(quiet) location. Operating frequencies will be announced after their arrival. QSL via W8UVZ.

CF3, CANADA (CISA and Contest Op)
Members of the local Ottawa Amateur Radio Club will activate Bate Island on December 30th (0000z) for a 24 hour period as CF3RCS (Canadians Freezing - 3 - Real Cold Spot). Bate Island is located in the Ottawa River (Island Park Drive north of the Parkway) and is considered part of the City of Ottawa. Operators mentioned at press time are Bob/VA3QV, Terry/VE3TWC, Steve/VE3SBC, Mark/VA3UMP and Martin/VA3SIE. CN, MOROCCO
Operators Nick/F5VIH/SV3SJ, Philippe/F6IFY and Patrick/F6IRF are in the early stages of planning to be active as CN2WW in the ARRL International DX CW Contest (February 17-18th) as a Multi-Op/Single- Transmitter entry. QSL via EA7FTR or LoTW.

DXCC NEWS (Notes on 4O3T QSLs)
Bill Moore, NC1L, ARRL DXCC Branch Manager, on December 13th, reports: "Several U.S. operators have reported that the 4O3T QSL cards began to arrive Monday and Tuesday. Unfortunately, the first batch contained only the month and year and not the specific day of the QSO. Cards now being sent have the complete date. 4O3T cards that show July 2006 or later, with or without the actual day being shown on the card, will be credited for Montenegro. QSLs for QSOs in May 2006 or earlier will count for Serbia (Serbia and Montenegro). Cards for QSOs in June 2006 will not be accepted for any credit. Montenegro was added to the DXCC list on June 28, 2006. Those who received a 4O3T QSL card with no date number and wish to obtain a corrected QSL can send a self addressed envelope directly to N7CQQ, John Kennon, who is sending out cards for all of the Americas." HNY 2007 PARTY

IOTA NEWS
SA-023. (Update) Jim, PY7XC, has been added to the group of operators Cristovao/PY7GK, Ren/PY7RP and Benedito/PY7VI that will be active as ZY6T from Itaparica Island, December 26-30th. Activity will be on 80-10 meters CW/SSB. They intend to put two stations on the air using amplifiers and vertical+dipole antennas. QSL direct to PY7GK.

J2, DJIBOUTI (Update)
By the time you read this, Eric, ON7SAT, who was active as J20SA, has departed from Djibouti. OPDX was informed he would be leaving on December 17th. However, the good news is Eric is due back in Djibouti on January 4th, 2007, for about 3 weeks (exact date to be confirmed), and his license has been extended for another 2 months. PIRATE ALERT - ZK3DX
Len, ZL1BYA, New Zealand Association of Radio Transmitters (NZART) Monitoring Service Officer, has issued the following: "There is a pirate station using the callsign ZK3DX. He has been operating since the 16th of September and was last heard on the 3rd of December 2006, he is usually around 7000 to 7010 kHz between 0500 and 0700 NZDT. He appears to be an experienced CW operator and claims to be operating from Nukunonu Atol in the Tokelau Is. The Tokelau Administration has not issued this callsign nor have they heard of any amateur operating from these Islands. This callsign is being used illegally."

This explains why the cards are now being mailed from Las Vegas. Our first group of QSL cards were printed just fine and mailed out. So we continued processing the cards and then discovered that the program had dropped the day off. We were able to identify some of the people that rec'd these cards and quickly resent revised QSL cards out explaining the problem, but unfortunately we could not identify everyone, so then the confusion set in. The printing glitch has been corrected, and we are back on track mailing out the QSL cards.

Joe, VA6JWT, who operated as 6O0JT last year, has been away from Canada for sometime. He indicates that upon his return he will continue to process cards. Joe will do direct cards first, then bureau cards but all cards will be responded to.

Graham, M5AAV, informs OPDX that effective immediately, he is now the QSL Manager for Steve, 9M6DXX. QSL direct or by the Bureau.

Even though QSL Manager Dominik, DL5EBE, is now living in Russia, he states that direct QSL cards for any of the stations he is the manager for can still be requested from the following address: Dominik Weiel, Wintershall Holding AG, Abt. YX0A/YX0LIX QSL STATUS. Steve, KU9C, reports, "The YX0A/YX0LIX cards have arrived, and I'm in the process of preparing the first mailings. The process will be a bit slower than I'd like, due to the holidays and a few business and family commitments. Please do not resubmit; I'll use the DX bulletins to advise when I've finished mailing what I've got and status updates along the way. I do apologize for the delay in getting the cards out."

SPECIAL EVENT
The Straight Key Century Club (SKCC) invites you to celebrate their first anniversary with special event station K1Y. Stations will be operating in all call areas on all HF bands from January 1-31st. All special event operators will be using straight keys and bugs. Operators are free to use any part of the bands but will probably concentrate around the SKCC frequencies (listed on the SKCC Web page). Special event QSL cards are available for working stations in each call area. Certificates will be awarded for contacts with all call areas. T30, WESTERN KIRIBATI
Toshi, JA8BMK, will active as T30XX during his spare time from December 27th to January 8th. Activity will be on 160-10 meters CW/SSB. He will be using a TS-480 and a FT-897 with Linear Amp. Antennas will be: 3 element yagi for 20/15/10 meters, Rotary dipole for 40/30/17/12 meters and an Inverted "V" for 160/80/75 meters. QSL via JA8UWT, direct only.

VK9N, NORFOLK ISLAND
Members of the Bavarian Contest Club (BCC) will once again be on tour. Look for operators Markus/DJ7EO, Heye/DJ9RR, Christian/DL1MGB, Dietmar/DL3DXX, Tom/DL5LYM and Dieter/DL8OH to be active from Norfolk Island (OC-005) between February 15th and March 3rd, 2007. VU4, ANDAMAN ISLANDS
OPDX has received several inquires from readers

"Where are the operators/stations on the island?"

The DX community was told that equipment was supposely left on the island and "two permanent stations are now on the Andaman Islands. Station's callsigns are VU3VPX and VU3VPY. They will be operated by two lectures from the Politechinic College."

"On 13th December a presentation was made at the Lakshadweep Secretariat conference center. Over 26 staff members from the island administration attended the present- ation. The presentation showcased HAM radio and its many facets and included a live demonstration of HAM station operations with voice and CW.

The attendees also visited one of the operational stations from the DXpedition to get a first hand experience of what we are doing on the island. In addition the use of HAM Radio in an emergency scenario was highlighted and this was appreciated by the attendees.

The island administration is in discussion with ARSI as to how training for their staff could be administered and ARSI has offered to organize training and coordinate with the examiners to conduct HAM license tests on the island itself.
