4O6, MONTENEGRO
It was reported today by Joe, W8GEX, that he and four
other members from the SouthWest Ohio DX Association are going to Montenegro
on August 13th for a 7 day operation at the Sky Contest station. Check out

5Z, KENYA
Nick, G3RWF, is planning to return to activate 5Z4LS again
next November for the CQWW Contest. He is expected to probably stay a
few more days than last year. Nick is planning to use the Radio Society
of Kenya clubhouse in Nairobi again.
6V, SENEGAL
Paul, K1XM, will be active as 6V7D during the CQWW DX CW
Contest (November 25-26th) as a Single-Op/All-Band/Low-Power entry. His

ANTARCTICA ACTIVITY
Oleg, R1ANF, is active for about 2 weeks from Priroda
Refuge (RUS-15, new WAP reference). This refuge was installed during the
32nd Russian Antarctic Expedition, February 18th, 1987, and is located at
King George Island (South Shetlands), NW of Fildes peninsula, 8 km from
Bellingshausen station, at 62°09' 00" S, 58° 56' 35" W. His callsign
will be R1ANF/p. QSL via RK1PWA (QRZ.com). Check 14023 kHz starting from

CQ NEWS RELEASE
Richard Moseson, W2VU, Editor of CQ Amateur Radio, sent
out the following on August 1st:
(Hicksville, New York - August 1, 2006) - Steve Bolia, N8BJQ, has been named the new manager of the CQ WPX Award program, following the retirement of Norm Koch, WN5N (ex-K6ZDL), CQ Publisher and President Dick Ross, K2MGA, announced today. The WPX Awards are issued for confirmed contacts with stations having different callsign prefixes. Norm held the reins of the WPX Award program for 25 years, taking over the job late in 1981. "We thank Norm for his many years of devoted service to the WPX program, to CQ and to amateur radio," said Ross, "We wish him all the best in the future." Steve Bolia, N8BJQ, served as CQ WPX Contest Director from 1982 to 2003, is a member of the CQ Contest Committee and of the CQ Contesting Hall of Fame. His DXing credentials are even more impressive, as he holds CW, SSB and Mixed Worked All Zones (WAZ) awards, is on the DXCC Honor Roll for Mixed and CW, and holds 5-Band DXCC, RTTY DXCC and 160-Meter DXCC. He has also made several DXpeditions, to KH9 (Wake Is.), J6 (St. Lucia) and the rare CQ zone 2 (northeastern Canada). Professionally, Steve works as a defense contractor after retiring from a 22-year career in the U.S. Air Force. WPX Award applications and updates previously filed with WN5N have been transferred to N8BJQ and will be processed as quickly as possible. EU-013. Russell, G5XW, will be active as GJ5XW/p from Jersey's Channel Islands between August 26th and September 1st. Activity will be on all HF bands, SSB only. QSL via G5XW.
EU-014. Gerry, IZ1DSH, will be active as TK/IZ1DSH from Porto Vecchio, South Corsica (IIA TK-001, MIA MCO-001, WLOTA LH-1390), now through August 15th. Activity will be on 40 and 20 meters SSB. QSL via his home callsign through the ARI Bureau.
EU-038. (Satellite Op!) Andre, PH7AT, will be active as PH7AT/p from Texel Island (WLOTA LH-0003) between September 4-8th. He will be operating mainly with a QRP handheld (5w) on satellites (AO-27, SO-50, AO-51, AO-7, FO-29 and VO-52). There may be some HF activity if his schedule permits. EU-042. Ten operators from the radio club station "Fachhochschule Wolfenbuttel (AFu-AG)" will use their club callsign DF0WFB, August 17-20th, from Hallig Oland Island (WLOTA LH-0712). Look for activity on all bands and modes. QSL DF0WFB via the bureau or direct with SAE + sufficient postage.
EU-054. Giovanni, IK1WEG, will be active as IF9/IK1WEG/p from Isola Favignana (IIA TP-011, MIA MI-025, WLOTA LH-1545), now through August 19th. Activity will be on the HF bands. QSL via his home callsign, direct or by the bureau.
EU-090. Operators Neno/9A5AN, Gita/OM5MF, Lubo/OM5ZW, Steve/OM5AA and Martin/OM4ATW will activate Palagruza Island, Croatia, (IOCA CI-084, WLOTA LH-0057, CLH -100) between September 2-9th. Last operation was in 2003. Activity will be on all bands, HF and VHF. Neno will sign 9A5AN/P and all others will sign 9A/homecall. EU-125. Michael, DL3FCG, will be active as OZ/DL3FCG from Bolilmark, Romo Island (NS-001 for the Danish Islands Award), August 5-19th. Activity will be on all bands, CW and SSB. QSL via his home callsign, direct, by the bureau, or LoTW.

GREEK ISLANDS TOUR IN NORTH AEGEAN SEA
Operators Nicos/SV2AYT, Bill/SV2AOB,
Bill/SV2BET, Alex/SV0EG and Kostas/SW2IPK will use the special callsign
SX8AYT to activate the following Greek islands, in the EU-049 IOTA group,
between August 16-30th: Lemnos Island (MIA MG-065, WLOTA LH-1740),
Agios Efstratios Island (MIA MG-002), Sergitsi Island (MIA MG-106,
uninhabitable) and Kompi Rockisland. Activity will be on 80-2 meters,
mainly SSB. SV8CRL is a local operator on Lemnos Island and SV8BUZ is a

J3, GRENADA (Ops Needed!)
Harry, AC8G, informs that five team members
are confirmed for a visit to Grenada between October 25th and November
2nd. Besides being an entry in the CQ WW SSB Contest, there will be activity
before and after the contest using various bands and modes. Openings exist

KH8SI NOW QRT
The KH8SI operation went QRT around 1900z, August 2nd.
Some interesting details about the operation should be forthcoming.
According to KH8SI pilot station JA2JSF: QSL via JA1BK: Kan Mizoguchi,
5-3 Sakuragaoka 4 Chome, Tama City, Tokyo 206-0013, JAPAN. Please send
all QSL data (multi QSOs) on one QSL. There has not been an announcement
about online logs.

LIGHTHOUSE/LIGHTSHIP ACTIVITIES
The Nieuwpoort Lighthouse (BEL-004) will be activated during the coming
International Lighthouse and Lightship (ILLW) weekend (August 19-20th)
by members of the UBA sections DST, KSD and RCO. Activity will be on
all bands (80-2 meters) mainly on SSB, CW and PSK31. At regular intervals
the operators may be seen on ATV as well (live via the ON0OS ATV output
on 1255 MHz or screen captures on http://www.on4aim.com ). QSL via
ON5RKN, either direct or through the UBA bureau. There will be a special
multi-color QSL card. All direct requests for QSLs will be mailed from
Nieuwpoort and will bear the special "Nieuwpoort Lighthouse" postmark
which can be considered a real collector's item.
Don, VP8ON, along with several other operators, will activate the Cape Pembroke Lighthouse (ARLHS FAL-009, WW Loc. GD18DH), located in the Falkland Islands (SA-002), for the International Lighthouse-Lightship Weekend (ILLW), August 19-20th. QSL via VP8ON (QRZ.com).
Hector/CE3FZL and Ricardo/CE3HDI will be active as CE2P (SSB) and CE2F (CW), respectively, from Punta Panul Lighthouuse (ARLHS-073), in San Antonio Port in CHILE, during the ILLW. Activity will be on all bands. QSL CE2P via EA5KB and CE2F via CE3HDI. Addresses can be obtained on (QRZ.com).
Rincon Lighthouse (ARG036) -- Special Prefix/Callsign LR3DX will be used. Located in Verde Peninsula in Villarino County. The Panama Canal Amateur Radio Association will activate Panama Canal Miraflores Lighthouse (PAN-030) on August 19-20th as HO1L. Activity will be on all bands and modes including some PSK31. QSL via HP1IBF.
MICROLITE BALTIC TOUR 2006
Vincenzo, IZ0FKE, informs OPDX that he will
be active from the Baltic area. His schedule is as follows:
August 9-11th - He will team up Markus/OH1MN and be a guest member of OH1AA on Parainen (EU-096) - Turku Group (one of the most wanted EU IOTAs). QSL via Andrea, IZ0EHO.All the OH/IZ0FKE contacts will be registered with ARRL "Log of the World" (LoTW) as a valid and quick DXCC credit for Aland Islands and Finland. Vincenzo will try to give some media coverage by uploading frames to a MMS gallery at:August 12-23rd - Vincenzo will be active as OH0/IZ0FKE from Odkarby (EU-002) - Aland Main Island. He states that activity will be on the WARC bands and PSK31. QSL via Alberto, IZ0FMA. He will also be with Peter/OH0JFB in the SSB QSO party on 20m from the famous Scandinavian Club Stations OH0Z/OH0AZ.
OH0, ALAND ISLAND
Four Finnish operators will be active from here during
the CQWW DX RTTY Contest (September 23-24th). Look for Raimo, OH3BHL, to
be active as OH0Z as a Single-Op/Single-Band (80m) entry. QSL via W0MM.
Look for Juhani, OH8JT, to be active as OH0I as a Single-Op/Single-Band
(40m) entry. QSL via OH3BHL. Look for Juha, OH9MM, to be active as OH0M

QRP MOUNTAIN DXPEDITION
Operators Michele/F5MKX (YL), Alain/F6ENO and
Jean-Jacques/F5NKX will be active as F8UFT/p from the French Alps as
follows:
Weather permitting, the team will be active on August 17th starting at the end of their afternoon (around 1600z) and night from the Adele Planchard hut (3200m ASL).Their equipment is a battery powered 3w transceiver and dipole (7 MHz), only on CW. QSL via F6ICG.On August 18th, morning, some activity by F5NKX, before climbing to the Grande Ruine hut (3765m ASL).
PLEASE NOTE: This expedition is a non SOTA one, for there's no French SOTA committee yet. ADDITIONAL NOTE: The callsign F8UFT is the official callsign of the Union Francaise des Telegraphistes (UFT), the French CW Society. This callsign has been activate in the past from: FS, TI, FO0, TK, FK8, J2, LA, OZ, ON, SM, and also from the Mont Blanc summit (4807m ASL).
QSL INFO AND NEWS
Phil, G3SWH, has recently acquired the paper logs for G3XAQ/6Y5 and
a small number of cards for Alan's operations from NA-097 in December
1992, November/December 1995, December 1996 and November/December 1999.
As the logs are on paper; they will *NOT* be uploaded to LoTW. As always,
Phil's QSL policy is: direct preferred, bureau is OK or E-mail for a
bureau card. Please include adequate postage and a C6 sized SAE for the
return of any direct QSLs. U.S. dollars are *MUCH* preferred to IRCs,
but please remember that 1 USD is *NOT* sufficient postage for an airmail
reply outside Europe. Mint stamps (except those supplied loose) and other
currencies are *NOT* welcome.
EG7CC QSL STATUS. John, EA7EUF, Secretary of the URE Huelva, informs OPDX that anyone who made a contact with the special callsign EG7CC over the weekend of May 20-21st, the QSL cards have been sent to URE HQ in Madrid for forwarding via the bureau.
NO BUREAU QSLS! Len, VK8DK, from the VK8 Bureau, informs that "whoever works Alan, VK8AV, please note that he does NOT accept QSL cards via the Bureau. MI-NEW. Look for special event callsign K8G to be active from Granite
Island (ARLHS USA-333) during the ILLW, August 19-20th. Activity
will be on most HF bands, SSB, CW, and PSK31. QSL via K8PT,
w/SASE, SAE and IRC or GS, or by the bureau. Operations will
start at 0001z Saturday and end 2359z Sunday.
TN-NEW. Jeff, WB5WAJ, plans to activate Hole in the Wall Island, Tennessee, August 18-19th. Look for activity around the usual IOTA frequencies (14260 kHz main). QSL via his home callsign, direct or by the bureau.
TX-001S. John, KL7JR, is active most weekends from Galveston Island (NA-143).

VP9, BERMUDA
Paul, K1XM, will be here between October 25-30th and active
as VP9/K1XM (outside the contest). His activity will include the CQWW DX
SSB Contest (October 28-29th) as VP9I and as a Single-Op/All-Band entry.
Look for activity outside of the contest mainly on CW, on 160-10 meters
including the WARC bands.
VQ9, CHAGOS ISLANDS
Jim, ND9M (VQ9JC and KG4JC), will be returning to
Diego Garcia (AF-006) this week for another four month tour. He is a
Radio Officer on the M/V Sgt. William R Button for the Military Sealift
Command (MSC). He informs OPDX that his previous tour over last winter
produced nearly 15,000 QSOs (84% CW, 11% SSB, 5% digital) despite lousy
band conditions, and he is hoping for another productive time on the
island. QSL either direct or via the bureau by his home callsign, ND9M.
(He also handles QSLs for his other alter-ego, KG4JC.)
PLEASE NOTE that direct requests will be forwarded to him by his XYL only on a 2 or 3 week basis, and it takes about two weeks for first-class mail to reach him on the ship. Jim will answer QSL requests ASAP, but IRC users should be very careful as any requests received after the IRCs have expired at the end of this year will be answered via the bureau.
VU13, INDIA (Special Event)
Look for special event station VU13IARU to
be active until August 11th. Activity is in connection with the 13th IARU
R3 Conference in Bangalore. This station will be operating on HF and VHF.
The station will be operational from the Hotel Hari International in
Bangalore. The person in charge of the station is Mr. A.R. Prathap Kumar,
VU2POP.
WRTC2006 NEWS
Oms, PY5EG, informs that the WRTC2006 is pleased to announce
the prize winners for the "Worked - WRTC 2006". They kindly invite you to

XX9, MACAO (Update)
Look for Hide, JM1LJS, to be here between August
10-15th. He is trying to renew his XX9TJS license. He states that his
activity will start around 1000z on August 11th. Activity will be on
30/17/12/6/2 meters SSB, CW and FM (No Digital modes.) He knows there is
a high demand for 30 meters, so look for him there. Satellite operations
will be 2m uplink / 430 MHz downlink only (No 430 MHz uplink). He will
have two sets of FT-100D (HF/6m: 100W, 2m: 50W) plus AT-130 (Antenna tuner).
Antennas will be fullsize dioples for 30/17/12 meters. For the 6m band,
he will use a 2 element V beam type HB9CV. For the 2m band, a 430 MHz
3 element / 6 element cross yagi for the satellites. QSL XX9TJS via JM1LJS.
YC0, INDONESIA
Hotang (Hot), YC0IEM, will be active as YC0IEM/7 from
Borneo Island (OC-088), August 7-24th. His bands/modes of activity were
not provided. QSL via IZ8CCW, by the bureau or direct.
YI, IRAQ
Richard, SP8HKT, will once again be in Iraq as YI9KT. He will be
in Diwaniyah from now until January 2007. He is going to use an IC-735
w/100 watts into a 7 band vertical antenna (GP-7, 40-10m) and a Delta Loop
at 85m for 80m. Richard will be active during his free time: 0800-1000z,
1300-1430z, 1700-2000z, sometimes on low band only with North America
between 0200-0330z and 0500-0630 local time. His activity on 160 and 80
meters depends on the possibility of assembling his antenna. QSL via
