3B9 & FR, RODRIGUES AND REUNION ISLANDS (Correction)
Look for Jean-Marie, F8CHM (not F8CHN as reported in OPDX.740), to be active as FR5EZ from Reunion Island this week. His operations will take place between now and January 3rd. He will then leave and go to Rodrigues Island and operate as 3B9/FR5EZ between January 3-11th, before returning to Reunion Island and staying until January 17th. Most of his activity will be on 30 and 17 meters. QSL both operations via F8CHM.

8R, GUYANA
Ken, K7ZUM, will be active as 8R1ZUM in the ARRL DX SSB Contest (March 4-5th). Look him to be active on 40/20/15 meters RTTY using the callsign 8R1/K7ZUM before the contest. QSL via K7ZUM (QRZ.com).

Horacio, LU4DXU, has cancelled/postponed his LU4ZS operation from Marambio Base (IOTA AN-013, Antarctica Award LU-03) on Seymour Island that was scheduled to take place between January 3-8th. There is a possibility of him going there in February. More details are forthcoming.

CDXC 2006 CONVENTION
Laurent, F8BBL, states to mark your calendar for the 28th Clipperton DX Club DX Convention which will be held over the September 15-17th weekend. The event will be held in the very popular Arcachon area of France. Some of the presentations scheduled include K7C, 5H1C, A52CDX, FT5XO, 4S7PAG, MU0EXV/GU0VNK, 3Y0X and TO4Gxx just to name a few. FG, GUADELOUPE
Rick, N0YY, will be active as FG/N0YY from February 13-21st. His activity will include the ARRL DX CW Contest (February 18-19th) as a Single-Op/All-Band entry. QSL via K9JS.

HB0, LIECHTENSTEIN
Tom, DL2OBO, is expected to be active as HB0/DL2OBO from "Chalt Barsüla" cottage between 1600z, January 2nd and 1200z, January 7th. Activity will be on 160-10 meters with an emphasis on the lower bands. He states that if you need a sked for anything, call by telephone at 00-423 262 68 54; anytime you like (between the above hours only), and also during the night.

IOTA NEWS
EU-088. Ric, DL2VFR, will be active as OZ/DL2VFR from Laeso Island (DIA NK-003 for the Danish Islands award) from July 23-30th. Activity will be HF and 6 meters, mostly CW with some SSB. He will also be active in the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 29-30th). QSL via his home callsign; bureau is preferred.

EU-096. Operators Ric/DL2VFR and Frank/DL2SWW are planning to be active from Korpo Island, March 22-29th. Activity will be on 160-10 meters (possibly 6m), CW and SSB. QSL via their home callsigns.

NA-058. Look for Jerry, N9GGO, and his XYL Kathy, KC9HIF, to be active from Jekyll Island (USI GA-006S, Glynn County, Georgia), January 3-7th. Activity will be during the hours of 1230-1600z on 20 meters SSB (watch 14260 kHz +/- QRM). QSL via N9GGO (QRZ.com).

SA-023. (Cancelled) Renner, PY7RP, informs OPDX that Cristovao, PY7GK, had to cancel his holiday ZY6GK expedition to Itaparica Island due to radio problems. Some days ago his IC-746 stopped transmitting. He told Renner that he will send his radio to get repaired and plans to be back on Itaparica just in time for the next IOTA contest.

ISWL DIAMOND ANNIVERSARY (Special Event)
SWL Pete Rayer, Hon. Life Vice President of the ISWL, informs OPDX that the "International Shortwave League" (ISWL), celebrates it 60th (Diamond) Anniversary in 2006. The ISWL was founded in 1946 and caters to Licensed Amateurs, Broadcast Band and Amateur Band SWL's and Air Band Listeners around the world. (Plus many more aspects of their great hobby). During the celebration, look for special event station GB60SWL to be used at 12 public events throughout 2006. The first event will be on January 22nd from the RAF Montrose Heritage Centre in Angus, Scotland. Also, look for special event station GB6SWL to operated on weekends and public bank holidays from various locations around Great Britain. JW, SVALBARD
Trond, LA9VDA, will once again travel to Svalbard (Spitsbergen Island - IOTA EU-026) and be active as JW9VDA from January 9-16th. His activity will be on all bands, mostly CW and SSB. This operation will be good for a brand new WLOTA JW-0125 reference number. QSL direct to: Trond Johannessen, Helgedalen 13, N-1528 Moss, Norway. Please include a self-addressed envelope (SAE) and sufficient return postage. For postage to Europe and the rest of the world, 1 USD is not enough. Please provide at least 1 IRC or 2 USD. P4, ARUBA
Tom, W7YW, informs OPDX that he will be operating from Aruba from March 7-22nd. He will be operating from the P40L contest station on all bands with SSB and CW. A personal callsign has not been assigned yet, but Tom has requested P40YW. He will be accompanied by his wife Bonnie, W7BWW. QSL to his home call, W7YW.

SILENT KEYS
WB3DNA - Tim Fanus, DXer of Harrisburg, PA, became a Silent Key on December 28th. Tim was 47 yrs. old and confined to a wheel chair since his early teens. He was a DXCC Honor Roll member, QSL Manager and a long time QSL sorter for the W3 Bureau until his health would not permit him to continue.

W8LKH - Richard Hatton a DXer of Novelty, Ohio, became a Silent Key on December 20th at the age of 86. He has been a ham operator since the age of 5. He was at the top of the DXCC Honor Roll for many years with his DXCC Mixed total of 382. Richard Hatton worked in radio broadcasting and electronic sales/service for 65 years. He also served as the Chief of Police in North Randall in the early 1950's.

OPDX and its readers would like to send out our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the above "SK" DXers.

S0, WESTERN SAHARA
Radio-Noticias magazine reports that a group of operators during their Sadiki Expedition will transmit from different locations from the Sahara, within the territory of the Arab Republic Democratic Saharaui between January 7-13th. Activity will be SSB on the following suggested frequncies: 3675, 7085, 14310, 21175 and 28975 kHz. Their activity also includes 27425 kHz (11 meters, YES the CB Band!!). Details are available on:

SPECIAL AWARD/EVENT
During 2006, the Croatian Amateur Radio Association will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of the great inventor and scientist Nikola Tesla, who was born near Gospic in Croatia, on the 10th of July 1856. Look for special event station 9A150NT to be active on all bands and modes from Croatia during the year of 2006. ADDED NOTE: The special station 9A150NT will be active each month from a different Croatian county. Also, the Croatian Amateur Radio Association will issue a special event "Nikola Tesla Award", commemorating that anniversary. QSL 9A150NT via 9A6AA. SPECIAL EVENT
The members of the Amateur Radio Club Koprivnica "9A8K" will activate the special callsign "9A650C" to celebrate the 650th anniversary of receiving free status for the town of Koprivnica (in 1356). The special callsign will be in use in 2006 from January 1st through December 31st. The QSL Manager for this activity is Kresimir, 9A7K. One QSO with the "9A650C" callsign is enough to receive the special "Koprivnica City Award". Amateurs from the Ardennes area will activate the special callsign TM5OVA now through January 12th. Their activity is in memory of Lucien, F5OVA, one of the most active Hams in the Ardennes area. TO5, MARTINIQUE
Al, F5VHJ, will be active as TO5A in the ARRL DX SSB Contest (March 4-5th) as a Single-Operator/All-Band/High-Power entry. QSL via F5VHJ, direct or by the bureau.

TR, GABON
Franck, F4BQO, will be active as TR8FC from Libreville between January 1st and May. Look for Franck during the evenings starting at 1800z on 14190 kHz. Also, watch 21020 and 24900 kHz on CW. VP2V, BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS
Jim/G3RTE and Phil/G3SWH will be active as VP2V/G6AY from Anegada Island in the British Virgin Islands (IOTA NA-023) between February 23rd and March 1st. Their activity will be primarily CW on 80-10 meters but with some SSB and the possibility of some 160 meters CW operation. They will have two 100 watt stations and hope to be on the air as much as possible, propagation permitting. QSL via G3SWH, direct (with SAE and adequate return postage), via E-mail for a bureau reply or via the RSGB Bureau.

VP9, BERMUDA
Kyle, WA4PGM, will be active as VP9/WA4PGM between January 26-30th. Activity will be on 160-6 meters with an emphasis on the CQWW 160M CW Contest (January 28-29th) as a Single-Operator entry. QSL direct via POB address listed in QRZ.com or on:

VU4, ANDAMAN AND NICOBA ISLANDS (Update on Hamfest)
On December 30th, the National Institute of Amateur Radio (NIAR) sent out a press release (First Information Circular) detailing their upcoming "HAMFEST (VU4) INDIA ­ 2006" to take place between April 18-20th from Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The purpose of this conference is to provide a forum for presentation and discussion on the latest technology developments, Antennas & Propagation, Dx-peditions, HF & VHF Communications, Digital amateur radio, Emergency Communications, Promotion of amateur radio / open forum in the field of amateur radio communication. The conference will cover all interdisciplinary aspects of amateur radio in various sessions. The major attractions during the event include an arena for exhibitors to display and demonstrate amateur radio communication technologies as well as allow foreign hams to operate from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Local tours to exotic locations are also planned for participants and much more. The NIAR requests Amateur radio organizations and individual hams interested in operating from Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands to forward a letter of intent with details (E-mail only) to:

YASME PRESS RELEASE (Foundation Supports Young Contesters at WRTC-2006)

"Because radio contesting needs to attract and support youth, the YASME Foundation (http://www.yasme.org) announces a donation of $10,000 to WRTC-2006 (http://www.wrtc2006.com) in support of youth participation. These funds will be used to help Young Contesters from around the world attend and participate in WRTC-2006, to be held in Florianopolis, Brazil, in July 2006. WRTC-2006 has dedicated three two-person team allocations to Young Contester teams. Additional Young Contesters may participate as part of multi-operator teams. We encourage young amateurs with a strong interest in contesting to make their applications for those positions by 20th January 2006. The qualifications and criteria for Young Contesters to apply to multi-operator teams will be announced shortly. While the multi-operator teams will operate at existing stations in Brazil, Young Contesters qualifying for the WRTC2006 competitor teams are expected to bring their own equipment..... 73, Ward, N0AX, YASME Foundation, Board of Directors"

XU, CAMBODIA
Just a reminder to look for Peter, NO2R, to be active as XU7ACY this coming weekend (January 7th). He returns to Sihanoukville again and plans to stay until January 21st. Activity will be mostly CW on 160/80/40 meters, with some SSB. QSL via K2NJ. His pilot station is W2EN.
