2004 are now complete. There are 154 streaming Real Audio DX clips at:
3DA, SWAZILAND (Update)
Frosty, K5LBU, reports that he has one ham signed
up and has his ticket for the trip to 3DA-land in July. However, he is
still looking for more operators for this trip. He states there is a
special fare available for a round trip ticket on South African Airlines
flying from Washington DC. If interested, contact him at: frosty1@pdq.net
Frosty states that operators will have their own 3DA callsign, but he
hopes to have the callsign 3DA5HQ for the IARU Contest. Activity will
be on all bands including 6 meters and all modes.
3V, TUNISIA
Three Hungarian operators have reportedly received written
permission (on May 3rd) to operate from Djerba Island (AF-083). Activity
will be from the 3V8SM Tunisian Scout Radio Club station between now and
May 10th, on the HF bands. The operators are Jeno/HA5FA (mostly on CW),
Miklos/HA5VZ (mostly on SSB) and Miklos/HA5GO (mostly on BPSK and sometimes
on CW and SSB too). QSL via HA5FA, direct or via the HA QSL Bureau (Only
for this operation!!!).
60TH ANNIVERSARY (End of WWII - Special Operations and Awards)
Ted Melinosky, K1BV, from the K1BV DX Awards Directory, reports to OPDX
that right now, there are 7 different awards from England, Russia and
the Ukraine available for contacting special event stations commemorating
the 60th Anniversary of the end of WWII. Most of the activity centers
around May 5-15th. Complete details of these awards are available on his
awards oriented Web site at:
7Q, MALAWI
Bill, KC4D, is expected to be here and be active for about
four weeks as 7Q7WW starting on May 13th. Activity will be limited to
his spare time, and mostly during his evenings on 40/80 meters and
possibly 160 meters. Bill is expected to be active during the CQ WPX
CW Contest. QSL via KC4D.
9M8, EAST MALAYSIA (Operators Needed For Mountain DXpedition)
Alan, VK4AAR, informs OPDX that operators are being sought to join a
DXpedition to a Dayak village in Sarawak (9M8) located at 1,000 meters
ASL. The proposed operation will take place from June 3-5th June 2005,
and Australians and DX operators are being encouraged to join this group.
A callsign has been requested (TBA), and interested parties should contact
Sengchai Chan, 9M8SC, for more details via E-mail at: chansc44@yahoo.com
A brief outline of the plans are to follow. QSL (direct only) to VK4AAR:
Alan Roocroft, 376 Old Toowoomba Rd, Placid Hills 4343, Australia (with
a SAE + postage). The following was also sent by Alan with the announcement:
"Briefly, Gunong Jagi is a Bau Jagoi village, the only village that cannot be reached by vehicle, so you've to walk up but on a jungle foothpath, in some parts cement steps, under the canopy of Borneo trees. The altitude of the village is about 1000 metres, which is quite pleasant and cool in the evening. It has about 20 simple houses but most of them are not occupied, as the elderly people prefer to stay in their farms on the slopes or at the foot of the mountain below. Only the village chief called Ketua Kaum and three other families remain in the village most of the time. They will be very happy to welcome visitors, even if just for an overnight stay and will provide accommodation, help with cooking, etc. It is felt this is an ideal place for a DX.I am proposing a 3Days/two nights visit, leaving Kuching for Jagoi Gunung on Friday, June 3, 2005 and coming back to Kuching/Airport on Sunday, June 5, 2005. For those intending to fly out of Kuching on Sunday evening, there will be more than enough time to leave the village and catch the flight at Kuching International Airport. So anyone intending to take part should at least arrive in Kuching the latest by Thursday, June 2. In other words, this is a long weekend trip on a ham expedition in a Dayak mountain village. As to details of cost, I have given the rough estimates, but to be on the safe side, if there is say a dozen or so people, it will be safer to say the cost from Kuching to the village for a 3D/2N stay inclusive of accommodation, food, ground transport, etc is approximately RM200 (52-55 USD) per person. Anyone coming in from overseas and needing help to book hotel accommodation in Kuching can also get in touch with Sengchai Chan (9M8SC). He will obtain the hotel package rates from a comfortable hotel in the city centre, but hams would have to indicate the number of nights they are staying and the dates so that bookings can be made, with advance payment. He will do the booking through an officially appointed travel agent in the city who can also organise city tours, if desired."

Mark, KM6HB, informs OPDX that all the logs for his following operations below can be viewed at:
TT8 QSLS. Bob, W4VQ, informs OPDX that he received a note from Dennis, PA7FM, in which he said the QSLs for TT8AMO and TT8M have not yet been printed and should be ready in about a month. He is waiting for a photo from Pierre for the TT8AMO cards.
PLEASE TAKE NOTE (VK4AAR's address). Alan, VK4AAR, has asked OPDX to advise our readers that his mailing address has changed at the end of March, but many people are still sending their QSL requests to the old address. Alan states, "The post office will not redirect my mail forever so they must use this address in future ..........": Alan Roocroft, 376 Old Toowoomba Road, Placid Hills 4343, Australia. Alan is the QSL Manager for the following: 9V0A, 9V1DX, C21RH, KH2VM, P29RH, V63PD, VI0ANARE, VK0MM (Macquarie), VK6AN (OC-266), VK6BM (OC-234), VK6BSI (OC-243), VK6LI (OC-071), VK8AN/6 (OC-154), VK8AN/8 (OC-229), VK8AV/3 (OC-136), VK8DP, VK8MI (OC-173), VU3RSB and VP2V/W3HQ. (YJ8AA, ZK2JJ and ZK2PJ logs are now closed).
PLEASE TAKE NOTE. Dan, VK8AN (aka VK6AN, K6KMD and 4W3AN), informs OPDX that for (inspite of advising ALL stations) contacts with his previous IOTA DXpeditions, to please QSL Alan, VK4AAR, DIRECT ONLY. They are still getting many QSLs via the bureau - most with "via VK4AAR" noted on them. Unfortunately, these arrived without an IRC or "green stamp" and will NOT be answered. Dan states that with the high cost of getting to most islands these days, they feel that they should not have to also bear the costs of thousands of QSLs ("is simply too much for most of our already tightly-stretched budgets"). In all cases, all QSOs were (and will be) advised to QSL Alan directly and NOT via the bureau. Dan says, "To my knowledge, this (or a similar instruction) is standard practice today."

OPDX has received a report that QSL Manager Bob Keenan,
