IOTA CONTEST REMINDER
Don, G3XTT, IOTA Contest Manager, sent out the following reminder: "With the IARU contest out of the way, the next 'big one' is the IOTA Contest on 24/25 July (1200z to 1200z). There should be plenty of island activity, as always, with lots of island expeditions already announced. This year it's also a great opportunity to work islands towards the IOTA 2004 40th Anniversary Award (for details go to the Chiltern DX Club (CDXC) Web pages at:

http://www.cdxc.org.uk
Many European islands count for premium points for the award during July. An up-to-date list of expected operations appears on NG3K's Web site at
http://www.cpcug.org/user/wfeidt/Misc/iota2004.html
and on DL2VFR's Web page at
http://www.iota-post.de/iotatest/hauptteil_iotatest.html
- thanks to both of these supporters. The contest rules are unchanged from 2003 and can be found on the RSGB HFCC Web site at:
http://www.rsgbhfcc.org
If you take part, we are very keen to receive your log. Logs go to iota.logs@rsgbhfcc.org (not rsgb.org - this was an error on the Web site and has been corrected). This year you will get an acknowledgement E-mail, asking you to visit a Web page to complete your submission. This way we can ensure that we will not need to get back to you to check on the exact category you have entered, etc. My thanks to Marios 5B4WN/G0WWW for helping to write the scripts for this. It will save a lot of post-contest correspondence with entrants. E-mail logs should be sent with a single (ideally, Cabrillo) attachment. There is good news if you are a CT user, which is that Ken K1EA has now implemented Cabrillo for the IOTA contest. Please ensure you are using the latest version of CT, and you will be able to send in a conformant Cabrillo log. Most other logging programs (SDI, Writelog, N1MM, TR, LuxLog, etc.) already support Cabrillo for the IOTA contest. A reminder, if you are deciding what category to enter, that Braco, OE1EMS, has kindly compiled a list of records for the contest, and they appear on the IOTA Contest pages on the RSGB HFCC Web site (see above). We look forward to receiving your IOTA contest log. If you have any queries, you can contact us at: iotacontest@rsgbhfcc.org ..."

Larry, VQ9LA (N0QM), has been QRT for a couple of months and has been on vaction back in the states. He is presently in the Philippines. He informs OPDX that he will be back in VQ9-land on July 26th and will start operating again. YV0, AVES ISLAND
Word out of Japan reports that Mike, K6MYC, (via Lance, W7GJ) states, "We leave Venezuela on July 28th on a 24 hour boat ride to Aves. We may get on the air late on July 29th but don't count on it. I'll try to have 14.345 com set up immediately with Quad loop and 100W. We should have GPS timing working so we can take skeds for JT65A and should be operational some time on July 30th. Best guess is we tear down on August 7th or 8th. We are there for ten days, but I believe that includes the two travel days. Keep an eye out for the official announcement on the DX sites. To repeat, earlier equipment I will have: 1 KW (8877) on 6M and 2 x 41 feet yagis (M2 specials) (no elevation) and 350W on 2M and 15.7 dBd yagi with elevation to about 45 degrees. Martti, OH2BH, is going and will be taking his two, now famous, solid state HF KW amps, and at his request were made special to get about 500W on 6M so we have a backup amplifier if 8877 has problems. Please pass this message to all 6M friends and all 2M EMEr friends. Gary/KB8RQ and Dave/W5UN will probably have most consistant comm to me on 14.345 and can handle questions and sked times. Try to make 2M JT65A skeds after my moon is over 25 degrees on my rise and before 25 degrees on my set. My above the noise random frequency will be 144.080 Xmit, and I will listen up 2 to 5 KHz for randoms. Grid square for YV0 is FK85eq."
