3B9, RODRIGUES ISLAND
NODXA member Robert, 3B9FR, was heard this past
Sunday morning on 10 meter FM. He was heard on 29600 kHz between
1200-1400z working Europe.
3W9, VIETNAM
Jurgen, 3W9HRN, was active this past Sunday on 15 meters
CW/SSB. Watch between 21015-21020 and 21223 kHz starting around 1400z
(also report at 0145z). QSL via DL1HRN. Also, look for Eddy, XV1X, who
was active this past weekend on 40/20/17 meters CW between 1400-1800z.

7Q, MALAWI (Update)
The UK Malawi DXpedition continues to be active
as 7Q7MM until May 1st. According to their Web page, pile-ups are
awesome, and they have uploaded some 10400 QSOs on Friday to their Web
page. Their main supply of power is unstable, so please forgive them
if they disappear on the air. The team was participating in the SP-DX

A6, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES
Operators Roger/G3SXW, David/K1ZZ, Robert/K3EST,
Atilano/PY5EG, Tine/S50A, Robert/S53R, Charles/W6OAT, Bruce/W6OSP and
possibly others will be active as A61AJ in the CQ WPX CW Contest (May
29-30th) as a Multi-Multi entry. IMPORTANT: QSL to K2UO (U.S. Stations)
and DJ2MX (non-U.S.).
ALL-AUSTRIAN-CONTEST (AOEC)
Tom, DL8AAM, informs OPDX that once again
the Austrian Telecommunications Authority gave a special permit for
non-amateur radio stations from the public service (military, police,
customs, red cross, NGO, State Department etc.) to take part in the
"domestic" ALL-AUSTRIAN-CONTEST (AOEC) on May 1st (held each year on
May 1st) at 0500-0800 and 1400-1700 UTC. This interservice-part of this
contest is to train operators from all radio services to interact in case
of an emergency situation and to understand the shortwave conDX. The
interservice part takes place on 80 and 30 meters, as both bands are
allocated to the fixed service. Also, simplex QSOs are possible, not like
the crossband operations of the Armed Forces Radio Day of the U.S.
(May 8-9th). The official rules of this contest can be found on the

NOTE 2: This is a domestic contest, which means all no-OE operators can only act as SWLs, but even then a good chance to log and QSL some really interesting callsigns. Also, this contest may be an idea for other countries to organize such an event??
AP, PAKISTAN
Bob, AP2JZB, was heard this past weekend on 12 and 17
meters SSB. Watch 24955 kHz after 0930z and around 18110 kHz after
1445z. QSL via direct.
CASTLE NEWS
On May 16th, between 0600-1600z, look for many stations to operate
from Fortresses and Castles in France, Belgium, Italy, Spain and
Portugal, and participate in "The European Castles Day". For more

Next Saturday, May 1st, Francois/F5JNE and Maurice/F5IYU will be active as F5JNE/P from the Castle of Pancy Courtecon, near the town of Chamouille. References are: Castle DFCF 02022; Canton Laon - 0212; Department - Aisne, 02; and Province - Picardie. Activity will be on 40 meters CW starting around 0630z. QSL via the Bureau.
EP, IRAN
Three stations were heard this past week: EP3PTT, EP4HR and
EP4SP. EP3PTT was mainly active on 15 meters CW starting a little after
0900z. QSL via OK1LO. Hamid, EP4HR, was active on 15 meters SSB starting
1530z. QSL via I2MQP. Yar, EP4SP, was active on 21236 kHz around 1530z
and then on 20 meters CW starting around 0000z.
Euradio (European Union Radio Amateur Celebration)
The following event
is sponsored by the Irish Radio Transmitters Society (IRTS) on the weekend
of May 1st and 2nd. The IRTS will celebrate the accession of ten new states
to the European Union by sponsoring ten special event stations over the
Accession weekend. Each station will be twinned with one of the accession
countries. Look for the following special event stations:

EUROPE DAY 2004 AWARD
To celebrate "Europe Day" on May 9th, the Polish
"MK QTC Magazine" and "PZK Zwiazek Krotkofalowcow" will issue the "Europe
Day 2004 Award". Make 25 QSOs with stations from any territories of the
European Union Member States on any HF or VHF+ bands between 0000 and 2359z
on May 9, 2004. (Any combination of the number of QSOs and Member States
will be accepted.) Send an extract from your log and 5 IRCs or 5 USD or
5 Euro to: Redakcja MK QTC, Suchacz-Zamek, Wielmozy 5b, 82-340 Tolkmicko,
Poland. Deadline: 30th June 2004. The Award is also available to SWLs.

FH, MAYOTTE ISLAND
Andre, ZS6WPX, will be active as H/ZS6WPX from
October 1-13th. Activity will be on 160-10 meters as well as 6 meters.
Operations will be on SSB, Digital and some CW. QSL direct only via
ZS6WPX (Not to ZS QSL Bureau!).
FP, MIQUELON
Look for Paul/K9OT and Peg/KB9LIE to be active on Miquelon
as FP/homecall from the evening of July 2nd until noon local July 11th.
This is a 100w operation, all bands 160-6 meters, from Room 5 at the
ham-friendly Maxotel. They will have a 6m breakable beacon on 50.120 MHz.
Emphasis will be on 6, 12 and 17 meters SSB for Peg and 160-30 meters
CW for Paul. They plan on separate entries (one on CW, one on SSB) for
the IARU HF Championship Contest. QSL via K9OT: direct with SASE, or

(MORE) FRENCH NEWS AND ACTIVITIES
More announcements of French activities
and celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the Landing in Normandy on
6th of June 1944 is as follows:
TM6JUN - The Utah Beach Museum will once again activate the station TM6JUN from May 31th to June 13th. QSL via F5RJM.
TM6JDD - For the French Championship VHF, the TM6JUN crew will be active on V/U/SHF using TM6JDD, from La Pernelle, grid IN99IO, on June 5th and 6th. QSL via F8KFE.
TM6BMC - Some French operators from the Calvados and Eure Departments will be active on the 5th and 6th of June from Mont Canisy on the Benerville/Mer Hills. They will be located in the WWII German batteries. Using the callsign TM6BMC, activity will be on HF, VHF and UHF. QSL per instructions.
TM6OCH - The Radio Club Nord Cotentin, F6KFW, will be active as TM6OCH from June 19th to July 2nd. The main activity is scheduled on June 26th for the 60th anniversary of the Liberation of Cherbourg by the US VIIth Corps. A special QSL card will be available via F6KFW.
TM6OVS - (Update) To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the liberation by the partisans, look for activity by TM6OVS from the Vassieu en Vercors Partisans Museum on June 6th. QSL via Evelyne, F5RPB.
F/ON6JUN/p - The South Flanders DX Activity Group will send several operators to Ranville. They will be active from "The Pegasus Bridge Museum", for several days before, on and after June 6th, as F/ON6JUN/p. QSL per instructions.
GJ3, JERSEY
Johannes, DF5AU, informs OPDX that he will be active on the
weekend of May 8-9th from Jersey Island (EU-013) with the callsign GJ3DVC.
Activity will be on 160-10 meters (no WARC) on CW/SSB. He will also be
active in the CQ-MIR-DX-Contest. QSL via the bureau or direct to GJ3DVC.
If worked as MJ/DF5AU, the QSL route is via his home callsign (bureau or
direct).
HAMVENTION NEWS
DX DINNER UPDATE (Dayton HamVention). The Southwest Ohio DX Association
is pleased to announce the 19th Annual DX Dinner to be held on Friday,
May 14th, 2004, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Dayton OH. There will be a
cash bar at 6:30 PM and dinner at 7:15 PM. Steve Bolia, N8BJQ, informs
OPDX that the program will be "Rodrigues Island 2004" and will be
presented by Ivan, G3IZD. There are still tickets left - 32.00 USD each.

HAMVENTION(r) ANNOUNCES THAT AWARDS PRESENTATION WILL BE COMBINED WITH
SUNDAY PRIZE DRAWING:
The planners of the Hamvention(r) 2004 say that
they have a unique new way to present this year's Hamvention awards. It
is now part of a combined and expanded "Award Ceremony and Prize Drawing"
on Sunday afternoon, May 16th.
As in years past, at the close of business hours on Sunday, attendees will be directed to the 7000+ seats in the grandstands in the Main Arena for the drawing of the remaining hourly prizes and the big grand prizes. Before the first numbers are pulled, the crowd will get a chance to meet the three Hamvention(r) award winners, find out why they were chosen and get to be a part of this very special award presentation ceremony.
As previously reported, this year's winners are Barry Sanderson, KB9VAK, who is getting the "Technical Excellence Award," George Wilson, W4OYI, who is the "Special Achievement Award" winner and David Kopacz, KY1V, named as "Radio Amateur of the Year." They will be joined by the President of the Dayton Amateur Radio Association and members of the Hamvention(r) planning committee to make this a special afternoon for the winners and everyone else on hand.
Hamvention(r) is sponsored by the Dayton Amateur Radio Association. Now in its 53rd year, Hamvention(r) is slated for May 14-16 at the HARA Arena in the Dayton suburb of Trotwood, Ohio.
HB0, LIECHTENSTEIN
Klaus, DL7NS, will be active as HB0/DL7NS from
June 19-25th. His activity will be on CW using an IC-718 and linear.

IOTA NEWS
AS-079. Taka, JR3TVH, informs OPDX that he and his wife Natsu,
JJ3NAW, will be active from Miyako Island (JIIA-079-005;
near BV in Okinawa pref), April 29th through May 3rd. He
states that even with the conditions being bad, he has sent
many antennas to the island to be active on 160-6 meters.
Modes will be CW/SSB/RTTY/PSK. He will have a 25 watt
beacon on 50.135 Mhz. Taka suggests to keep watching around
his sunrise and sunset. QSL via their home calls. NO eQSL.
AS-113. A team organized by BX2AE, BV2OO and BV2QB will be active as BO0D on Dong Yin Island, which is near by Matsu Island, from May 8-14th. QSL via the BV Bureau.
EU-052. Mike, GW3UOF, will be active as SV8/GW3UOF/P from Kavos, Corfu, May 3-17th. Activity will be on CW/SSB/Digimodes. QSL via GW3UOF - address OK at QRZ.com.
EU-057. Seven German operators will be activating Ummanz Island (O-06 for the German Islands Award) on May 17-23rd. They will operate on all bands CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK31. Operators mentioned are: Frank/DL1APR, Bernd/DL1APW, Rolf/DL1NUF, Uwe/DL5AOJ, Achim/DL6AMA, Uwe/DL9NDS and Karl/DM3BJ. QSL via their home callsigns.
OC-160. Bill, VK4FW, will be active from Cumberland Island about May 3rd for 3 days.
JD1, OGASAWARA
Operators Taka/JO2JDJ and Hide/JM1LJS (JD1BLK) will be
active from Ogasawara (AS-031) as homecall/JD1 from May 2-5th. Activity
will be on 40-10 meters CW/SSB. Their equipment is an IC-756 and FT-100D
plus VL-1000 amp. However, their operation is limited to 50 watts by
Japan law. Antennas are: 2 element HB9CV (20-10m), 30m dipole and a 40m
full size ground plane. QSL via their home callsign (or QSL JD1BLK via

KP2, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS
Members of the North Jersey DX Association
(NJDXA), Ann/W2AZK and Brian/KF2HC will be active as W2AZK/KP2 and KF2HC/KP2
from the island of St Croix, June 5-12th. Look for them on 160-6 meters
SSB and CW. QSL to their home callsigns direct or via the bureau. Confirmed
QSOs with Ann and Brian are good towards the North Jersey DX Association's

NEW AWARDS MANAGER
Effected immediately, The British Amateur Radio
Teledata Group (BARTG) has a new Awards Manager. Phil Cooper, GU0SUP,
has now taken over this post from Nigel, G4KZZ, and will handle all
BARTG awards, which includes the well-known QCA (Quarter Century Award),

NEW MORSE CHARACTER BECOMES OFFICIAL MAY 3RD
Effective May 3rd, the new
Morse Code ITU character "@" symbol (known as the "at" sign by many and
use in E-mail addresses) will be an official character by sending the
letters "A" and "C" together. Example: .__._. (dot dash dash dot dash dot)
OH0, ALAND ISLAND
Operators Christian/DC7VS, Andreas/DC7ER and Tom/DL7NJ
will be active as OH0/homecall, from July 10-24th. Activity will be on
SSB, CW, SSTV and PSK31. This will be more of a holiday style operation.

PROJECT GOODWILL ALBANIA 2003 (More Signals from ZA)
Jarmo, OH2BN, sent
out a press release stating, "The success story of Project Goodwill
Albania 2003 on boosting activity in Albania by some 40 new licensees
and integrating amateur radio into the official course offering at the
Technical University of Tirana marked the highlight of historic happenings
on-site as well as on the air last fall. All ZA QSL cards are going out
as we speak." Over the past week, both Martti/OH2BH and Pertti/OH2PM
return to Tirana on Tuesday for a one week stay to launch several new ZA
stations on the bands based on equipment kindly donated by the DX community.
However, Jarmo states, "But more (equipment) can be used, and another
trip is planned for June, combining the First Albania DX Convention and
the launch of a second wave of stations on the bands." See the following

QSL T49C via K8SIX. Please spread the word that SM5KCO is NOT the QSL Manager for the T49C operation in 2004. He is only the QSL Manager for T49C in 1997.

as VQ5V in the CQ WPX CW Contest (May 29-30th) as a Multi-Single entry.
