5W & ZK2, SAMOA AND NIUE
Ted/K8AQM and David/K8AA will again be operating
from Samoa (5W) this summer between July 8-12th and July 19-21st. Their
callsigns will be 5W0TR and 5W0DL with QSL via K8AA. During July 13-19th,
they will be active from Niue (ZK2) as ZK2TR and ZK2DL (callsigns may
change) which will also be QSL via K8AA. They will be on for the IARU
Radiosport Contest. Activity will mainly be on CW and RTTY with some SSB.
6W, SENEGAL
Andy, LX1DA, is expected to be active as 6W/LX1DA from now
until April 8th. He will be active running only 6 watts! Andy kindly asks
for discipline and will go QRT if pile-ups get too chaotic. It is also
possible that he will visit other countries. QSL via his home callsign
(Bureau is OK).
7Q, MALAWI
Operators Mark/G4AXX, Dick/GU4CHY, Steve/G4JVG and Rich/M5RIC,
will operate from Malawi between April 18th and May 1st. The full 7Q7
callsign will be announced shortly before the start of the operation.
Activity will be on all bands 80-10 meters on CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK using
three stations with amplifiers and beam antennas. Kenwood (UK) has kindly
agreed to sponsor the DXpedition and will be providing transceivers. QSL
via G3LQP direct (Roger Brown, 262 Fir Tree Road, Epsom KT17 3NL, England)
or via the bureau. Each of the team members will be making a personal
donation to a Malawian aid charity (details to appear on their Web site).
Donations from DX clubs and individuals for the DXpedition or the charity
are welcome. They may be sent to G4JVG at: Steve Telenius-Lowe, 27 Hertford

9Q0, DEM. REP. OF CONGO
Gus, SM5DIC (9U5D..etc.), will be active as 9Q0AR
for the next 2 months starting January 20th. Activity should be on CW/SSB
on the HF bands and 6 meters. QSL direct ONLY for this operation via
SM5BFJ. Because of high Swedish postage, please send 2 USD or 1 new IRC.
AY1, SOUTH ORKNEY
Henry, LU4DXU, in Ushuaia will be leaving on January
23rd aboard the icebreaker and supply vessel "Almirante Irizar" which will
go to Laurie Island, South Orkneys. Activity on board the ship will be
LU4DXU/mm from Ushuaia to the South Orkneys (if permitted). He expects
to land on Laurie Island on January 26th and stay at the Orcadas Base.
Henry's operation will be for one month (between January 26th-February
29th). It has been reported that a special callsign AY1ZA has been
officially issued by the "Comision Nacional de Comunicaciones" for the
Antarctica campaign 2004. The suggested frequencies are:
SSB - 28390, 24930, 21190, 18130, 14290, 7090 and 3785
CW - 28035, 24905, 21035, 18090, 14035, 10120, 7025, 3515 and 1835
RTTY - 28120, 21090 and 14090
PSK31 - 21070 and 14070 kHz
Henry's HF equipment consists of an IC-751, a TL-922 linear, a 4 element
KLM yagi, a rhombic antenna and some wire antennas. Most of Henry's

BW3, TAIWAN
Tatsuhiko, JD1BKQ, will be active as BW3/JD1BKQ during the
CQ 160-Meter CW Contest (January 24-25th) as a Single-Op/Low Power entry.

C6, BAHAMAS (Op Cancelled!)
Wade, AA8LL, informs OPDX that he is sorry
to announce the operation to the Bahamas and Crooked Island has been
cancelled for now. There are several reasons, not the least of which is
a moderate oil leak on their (only) airplane engine. The trip may be
rescheduled in February or March. He will advise us when he knows.
DL6, GERMANY
Operators Bernd/DL6FBL and Joerg/DL8WPX will be active as
DL6FBL during the CQ 160-Meter CW Contest (January 24-25th) as Multi-Single
entry. Activity will be a Winter Field Day on a nearby airfield. Equipment
will be a TenTec ORION, 2-element Inverted-V, Inverted-L, Single Beverage
pointed to JA, Phased Beverages pointed to USA and a K9AY Loop. For more

DXCC NEWS
Bill Moore, NC1L, ARRL DXCC Manager, reports the following
operations are approved for DXCC credit:
Uganda - 5X2A (July 29, 2003 to July 1, 2004)

IOTA NEWS
CORRECTION. Last week we listed the operation of CE6TBN/8 to Riesco
Island incorrectly. This island is IOTA SA-091, not SA-031.
EU-109. The North Wakefield Radio Club will be operating as GX4NOK/P from the Island of Inner Farne (Worked All Britain Ref: NU23NLD) on April 17th and 18th. The Farne Islands lie off the coast of Northumberland, and they are a one of Britain's most important seabird sanctuaries. They are grateful to the National Trust for granting them permission to operate from what is a one of the most wanted islands in the RSGB "Islands on the Air" program. Presently, they are assembling a team to work on multiple bands and modes. During their activation, they will be displaying their operating frequencies on the following Web site, and they hope that they can give as many people as possible the chance to work this rare location. KG4, GUANTANAMO BAY
Look for Tip, N4SIA, to be active as KG4AS between
January 20-28th. Activity will be on all bands. QSL to his home callsign.
LIGHTHOUSE ACTIVITY
The Metro Amateur Radio Club, K9Y, will be active
from the Chicago Harbor Breakwater South Lighthouse (ARLHS USA-1185)
between 1600z February 7th and 2359z February 8th. Activity will be on
40, 20, 15 and 10 meters CW and SSB. QSL via N9TN, direct (Bill Borgstrom,
1330 W Columbia Ave, Chicago, IL 60626) with a #10 SASE (for U.S. stations)
or SAE + IRC (or sufficient funds for postage) for DX stations.
LU/L, ARGENTINA (Rare Province)
Alberto/LU1DZ, Hector/LU6UO and Fernando/
LW2DX, are going to Corrientes Province, to operate from this "rare"
Argentinian Province, between January 22-27th. They will be using the
callsigns LU1DZ/L, LU6UO/L and LW2DX/L; where "L" stands for Corrientes
Province, due to LU regulations. They plan to operate on all HF bands,
from 160-6 meters, both CW and SSB. ADDED NOTE: Ted, K1BV, reports that
it this operation is important for the "Toda Republica Argentina" award.

LX5, LUXEMBOURG
Operators Manfred/DK2OY and Helmut/DK6WL will be active
as LX5A during the CQ 160-Meter CW Contest (January 24-25th) as a Multi-
Single entry. QSL via LX1RQ.
OPERATORS NEEDED FOR DXPEDITION
Frosty, K5LBU, reports that they still
have room for about 3 more Hams who might like to go to Swaziland in March
to operate. They will fly out of Atlanta on SouthAfrican Airlines on the
morning of the 11th of March. Right now they are showing a special fare
of around 1100.00 USDs RT. If you would like to join them let Frosty know.

P4, ARUBA
Tony, N2KI, will be active as P40KI between May 20-26th. His
activity will be mainly on RTTY and SSB. He will try and cover as many
bands as possible.
PJ2, NETHERLANDS ANTILLES
Operators Tom/W8TK, Jim/W0NB, Dan/N1ZZ, Goose/
W8AV and Geoff/W0CG will be active as PJ2T from Curacao during the ARRL DX
CW Contest (February 21-22nd) as a Multi-2 entry. QSL via N9AG. ADDED NOTE:
Jeff, K8ND, has posted some photos from the 2003 CQWW CW Contest Multi-2
operation at Signal Point (PJ2T). Ops for the CQWW CW Contest at PJ2T were

PJ4, NETHERLANDS ANTILLES
Operators Jeff/KU8E, Mike/W9RE, Mark/N5OT and
Harold/N4GG will be active as PJ4R(?) (not sure of callsign yet) from
Bonaire during the ARRL DX CW Contest (February 21-22nd) as a Multi-2
entry.
PJ5, ST. EUSTATIUS (Update)
Jim, K1NA, informed OPDX that he will be on
St. Eustatius for about a month starting approximately February 18th. His
callsign will be PJ5NA. He will be operating on 160-10 meters CW only
outside of the contests. Remember, he will be active during the ARRL DX
CW Contest and casually during the ARRL DX Phone Contest. QSL via K1NA.
PR0, FERNANDO DE NORONHA
Look for Bill, W5SJ, to be active as PR0F between
January 21-27th. Activity will be mainly on CW during the evenings on 160,
80 and 40 meters. He will also be an entry in the upcoming CQWW 160-Meter
CW Contest. QSL via operator's instructions.

Jose, CT1EEB, reports that he has uploaded the following logs into the "Logbook of The World" (LoTW): CT1EEB, VK8CS and 4W6EB. Look for CU3/CT1EEB to follow soon.
QSL CT1GFK/p, CT1GFQ/p, CT2IHP/p, CT2IUA/p and CT1EHX/p via their home callsigns. Activity was from Barro Island (not IOTA, DIP AL-21; New Reference DIP).
Boris, T93Y, informs OPDX that the FM/T93Y QSL cards have been received from the printer and that all direct, bureau and E-mail requests have been processed. Boris states, "All direct requests are sent via Air Mail, which is not very fast over here, so please wait until end of the month before you start sending E-mails to me." NOT THE MANAGER! Ken, W8LU, is NOT the QSL Manager for KH7R. Ken states, "I continue to get requests for KH7R confirmations. I think this started because I do manage for the late KL7Y who last operated from the KH7R contest station immediately before his untimely passing."
Randy, W5UE, reports that the QSLs for the recent CQWW SSB Contest PZ5A operation and pre/post contest operation by PZ5UE, PZ5FF and PZ5CQ have been received from the printer and direct requests are now being answered. Geo, UY5XE, informs OPDX that he has received the log from UA0ZC for the UA0ZAL/p operation (AS-039, October 2001). QSL will be printed between January 25th and February 15th. Cards will be sent out after February 15th.
Bill, W9OL, announed he is putting the logs of YB1AQC, February 16, 1988 through October 11, 1988, into the LoTW. He states, "Got some of them up and will put the rest as I transcribe them. I will continue to provide hardcard QSLs upon request. USA only requires a SASE. Non USA only requires a SAE, 1 IRC is sufficient. All bureau requests will be replied via the bureau. SILENT KEY. The Z37M Radio Club reports that Petar "Pepi" Krajcev, Z31PK, became a Silent Key (SK) on January 13th at the age of 64. They state, "He was one of the few old timers here in Z3-land and well know DX-er. Many of active HAM's in Z3 learn from him a lot about constructions and building home made equipments." Pepi was also founder and President of Macedonian CW Group (MCWG). OPDX and its readers would like to send out our deepest sympathy to Pepi's family and friends.
SPECIAL EVENT (Correction)
Chris, HA5X, informed OPDX this past week

V8, BRUNEI
Jim/G3RTE, Phil/G3SWH and Ray/HS0ZDZ (aka G3NOM), who are all
members of FOC and CDXC, in association with Greg, V85GD, will be mounting
a multi-band, multi-mode DXpedition to Negara Brunei Darussalam (Brunei)
between March 8-15th. The main operation will take place from the QTH of
Greg, V85GD, under the special callsign of V8JIM. A single operator entry
will also be made in the RSGB's Commonwealth Contest using the special
callsign of V8NOM. Brunei is #82 in the 2003 Most Wanted survey by the
425 DX News (#83 in The DX Magazine Survey). The January 2003 ARRL listing
shows Brunei at #129. In addition, Brunei counts as OC-088 for the Islands
on the Air (IOTA) award. Activity is planned for all bands from 160-10
meters and will include CW, SSB and digital modes. Propagation permitting,
they plan to have three stations on the air for as many hours everyday as
is possible. Their main objective is to work as many European, North
American and ROTW stations on as many bands as possible. They have set
an expedition target of 12,000 QSOs, with an approximately equal split
between CW, SSB and digital modes. The QSL Manager for V8JIM will be G3SWH
and for V8NOM will be GM4FDM. They are happy to meet the costs of transport
to and from Brunei, but will appreciate sponsorship and donations towards
their living expenses, printing QSLs and the like. Any surplus will be
equally distributed between the operators to offset their personal
contributions.
XF4, REVILLA GIGEDO
Plans are still a go for this one in March. A QSL
Manager has been announced. This operation will use XE1IH: Enrique Garcia,
P.O. Box 118-481, Mexico, D.F 07051.
YI, IRAQ. Tim, M3SDE, reported last Tuesday that Darran, M1DAZ, has gone back to work in Iraq. He will be based in Umm Qasar in the South of Iraq. Darran will be once again active as YI9DAZ, and he will be active on HF bands with a Yaesu FT100D using an Atas 120 antenna and a G5RV wire. Although Darran is not there on a DXpedition status, he will be transmitting when he is not working and will makes announcements on the DX Central Cluster when he is live on air. Darran is working for the British Forces Broadcasting Services and looks after a radio Studio with a KU-Band multiplexed uplink, and numerous downlinks along with a network of broadcast transmitters. He was spotted this past week on 3786 kHz at 2009z and 14345 kHz at 1815z. QSL is direct to: Darran, PO Box 17, Kenilworth, Warwickshire, CV8 1SF ENGLAND.
YI, IRAQ
Kaspars, YL1ZF, is now active from Baghdad as YI9ZF for the
coming 6-8 months. Kaspars prefers CW but also has equipment for RTTY.
He can be found on most bands and is a very good CW/Contest-Op. QSL via
SM1TDE, Eric Wennstrom, P.O. Box 94, SE-62016 Ljugarn, Sweden or via the
SM Bureau.
YI, IRAQ
Dwayne, KE4RVT, annouced that as of 1700z January 16th, he will
be active as KE4RVT/YI. He will be operating CW/SSB QRO/QRP on 40-10
meters. He will be in Iraq for 12-18 months and will be operating during
his downtime from work. Dwayne states a standard QSL will be available
or an E-QSL.
