3B8, MAURITIUS
Massimo, IZ4DPV, informs OPDX that he will be active as 3B8/IZ4DPV from September 10-20th (during his free time). Activity will be on 20-10 meters, including the WARC bands. He will use a Kenwood TS-50 w/100 watts into a vertical antenna and monoband lambda. QSL only direct via homecall on QRZ.com.

3D2, ROTUMA AND FIJI ISLANDS
Look for Stephane, J28VS, to be active as 3D2VS/p from Rotuma (OC-060) between August 30th and September 5th. Also, look for Stephane to be active as 3D2VS from Suva (OC-016), Fiji Islands, September 6th to 11th. Activity will be on all HF bands SSB. QSL via F6KHM, either direct or through the bureau.

8Q, MALDIVES
Emanuela, IZ2ELV, is expected to be active from Velavaru as 8Q7LY until Auguust 31st. Activity will be on 20 and 10 meters SSB with a dipole antenna. QSL via bureau to her home callsign.

9M6, EAST MALAYSIA
Look for Kazu, JA1RJU, to be active from here as 9M6JU, November 18-25th. Activity will be on HF and 6 meters. QSL via JA1RJU.

CE9, SOUTH SHETLAND ISLANDS
Ricardo, CE9R, is expected to be active mainly on SSB on 15/10 meters from the Chilean base "Presidente Eduardo Frei Montalva" (WABA CE-03) on King George Island (AN-010) until September. QSL via CE3HDI.

CY0, SABLE ISLAND
Reports indicate that George/VE3NZ, Nick/VE3EY and Lali/VE3NE will be active as CY0MM from November 15-26th, only if the group can raise enough funds for the operation by October 15th. Planned activity will be on HF bands and 6 meters on CW/SSB/RTTY. Their operation will inclued an entry in CQ WW CW DX Contest. They have currently developed a Web page at:

DU, PHILIPPINES (IOTA Ops)
It has been reported that Ken, G3OCA, will be going to the Philippines in September to activate the Calamian Island Group (OC-090) and the Cuyo Islands (OC-120) as DU1/G3OCA, and also Sarangani Islands (OC-175) as DU9/G3OCA. He will operate CW and SSB with 100 watts to either a 3-element yagi or a multiband vertical. Exact dates will be given nearer departure time. QSL via G3OCA (Russian stations QSL via UA4SKW).

* Bill Moore, NC1L, DXCC Manager, announced two items of importance as we enter the final quarter of the 2002 calendar year: 1) This is just a reminder for all DXCC program participants that the September 30, 2002, deadline to have your submissions in for the next DXCC Annual List is rapidly approaching. The DXCC Annual List shows all those who have submitted an application to DXCC between October 1, 2001, through September 30, 2002. In order to be shown in the Annual list you must:

2) Christmas is coming and you should plan soon if you want to present someone with a wall plaque on time for Christmas as a nice gift. If you know someone who has achieved Top of Honor Roll, Honor Roll, 5 Band DXCC and even the DXCC Challenge, this would make a nice gift for them that they can treasure in their ham shack. Additionally, anyone who has qualified at some time in the past and may have dropped off the Honor Roll can still purchase the plaque. The only requirement is that you, at one time, qualified. EN67 DXPEDITION
A group of operators plan to activate the callsign K8B from grid square EN67 and also activate the Copper Harbor Lighthouse US-193. The operators of this Brockway Mountain expedition in Keweenaw County, Michigan, are: Rob/NV8V (CW/SSB), John/AB8KO (AM/FM/SSB), Duane/N9SSN (SSB), Renee/N9RK (SSB), Scott/W8UFO (CW/SSB) and Vince/KA8FFM 9CW/SSB). Their goal is to work as many as possible on HF and then work on the VHF-UHF stations. On the HF bands, they will operate on or near the lighthouse frequencies, plus or minus QRM.
CW - 1830, 3530, 7030, 14030, 21030 and 28030 kHz
SSB - 1970, 3970, 7270, 14270, 21370 and 28370 kHz
2m - 144.90 MHz

AS-041. Look for JI5USJ/4 and JI5RPT/4 to be active from Oki Island starting around 1200z on September 20th until around 0000z on September 24th. Activity will be on 160-10 meters SSB, CW, RTTY and PSK31. QSL direct to home callsigns or JARL QSL bureau.

EU-172. The "South Flanders DX Activity Group" will be active from August 30th through September 7th from Aaroe Island (DIA JY-003 for the Danish Islands award). The operators will be ON4AFU, ON4LBV, ON4IT, ON5SD and ON5ZO. Activity will be on all HF bands 80 through 10 meters, CW and SSB, with special attention to the WARC bands. EU-180. Alex/UR4LUG (Team leader), Oleg/UR3IFD, Leo/UT2II and Vit/UX7IM will be active as EM5UIA from Kosa Tuzla Island (Respublika Krym, Black Sea Coast Group) from September 5-10th. NA-140. Just a reminder to look for Bob/N2OO, Beth/KF2BQ and Skip/N1IBM to be active as N2CW/3 from Smith Island (USI MD-003S, Somerset County), Maryland, between August 26th and September 2nd. NA-217. Tony/WF1N and Lou/W1DIG will be returning to Isles of Shoals, Appledore Island (New Hampshire Group) September 20th, starting around 1900z Friday and ending about 1200z Monday, September 23rd. Operations will be on 40, 20, 17, 15 and 10 meters on/near the usual IOTA frequencies +/-, SSB, with a tribander, wires and amp. QSL direct (SAE and postage, PSE) or Bureau via home callsign. They will accept requests for Bureau cards via E-mail. E-mail requests do not require a card to them via the Bureau.

OC-171. Trevor, VK7TS, will be active now through September 6th as VK7TS/4 from Magnetic Island. Activity will be on 40-10 meters, mainly on SSB. QSL to VK7TS, either via the bureau or direct to: Trevor Spargo, 1 Roebourne Rd, Otago, Tasmania, Australia.

OC-186. Operators Sardjana/YC2ECG, Faozan/YD2JWM, Budi/YD2OEH, Yanto/ YD2CJQ, Andy/YD2KVU and Rivai/YB2MTA will be active as YE2R from Karimunjawa between August 28th and September 3rd. They will be operating on 15 and 10 meters, possibly 17 meters as well, on SSB and CW. They will be using two beams (one for Europe and Africa and the other for North and South America) for SSB and an inverted "V" for CW and 17 meters. They are expected to have three stations active at the same time and plan to be on for 12-18 hours a day. QSL direct only via YB2MTA.

SA-021. Mariano/LU4EJ and Daniel/LU3DTD will be active from Ariadna Island from October 4-6th. They are expected to use the callsigns AY4EJ/D and AY3DTD/D. Suggested SSB frequencies are: 3680, 7090, 14200, 14260, 21300, 21260, 28460, 28560 and 50110 kHz. QSL via LU4EJ via the address on QRZ.com or via bureau.

JT, MONGOLIA
Ken/K4ZW and Karl/K4YT are expected to be in Ulaanbaatar between September 9-15th. Look for some topband activty.

KH6, HAWAII
Hiro, JA5XAE, will be taking his 2002 DX vacation starting on the Island of Oahu and will be active as KH6/JA5XAE between the period of September 22-26th. He also plans to visit/operate from Waikiki. He will use an IC-706MK2 with an OUTBACKER OB8 antenna. Activity will be on SSB, RTTY, and CW. Suggested frequencies are: 7007, 7077, 10107 14007, 14087, 14177, 18137, 18087, 21007, 21087, 21277, 24897, 24937, 28007, 28087, 28477 and 50117 kHz.

LIGHTHOUSE/LIGHTSHIP NEWS AND ACTIVITY
Mike, GM4SUC, reports the International Lighthouse/lightship Weekend for 2002 is over with over 318 stations at lighthouses and lightships in 45 countries. A list of stations that were active can be found at:

NEWS RELEASE - Amateur Radio Lighthouse Society Meeting! Members of the Amateur Radio Lighthouse Society (ARLHS) will head to Georgia in October for the organization's first-ever meeting. It will take place on Saturday, October 19, 2002, at St. Simons Lighthouse on St. Simons Island, near Brunswick, Georgia. Spokesman Jim Buffington, K5JIM, said those attending will have an opportunity to activate St. Simons Light, portable or mobile, climb the lighthouse, tour the lighthouse museum and meet many of their fellow ARLHS members. Reg, W3REG, will introduce his new lighthouse tracking and logging software, and present each member present with a free copy. Also, on the agenda for discussion is a proposed ARLHS QSL bureau. Attendees are being encouraged to arrive on Friday, October 18th, in time to join the group for an informal dinner at one of St. Simons Island's restaurants. Another dinner is planned for Saturday night (Oct. 19th) featuring a speaker. Meetings will take place Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Coastal Georgia Heritage Center, located adjacent to the lighthouse and museum. The 10.00 USD registration fee (5.00 USD for additional family members who are members of ARLHS) may be sent to Lee Graves, WA7OBH, at: 4341 Southeast Satinleaf Place, Stuart, FL 34997 USA. The Radio Amateur Society of Norwich, N1NW, will be active between 1000z September 7th to 1600z September 8th, from New London Ledge Lighthouse (ARLHS USA-542). The lighthouse is located in New London County, New London harbor, New London, CT. Suggested frequencies are: 7270, 14270, 21370 and 28370 kHz. Kostas/SV1DPI and Tony/SV1ENG will be active as SW8LH from Lighthouse Skinari (GRE-119) on Zakynthos Island (EU-052) until about September 1st. Activity will be mainly CW. QSL via SV1ENG.

Michael, VE3WMB (ARLHS # 428), will be activating five lighthouses on the Island of Grand Manan N.B. during the week of September 1-6th. Operation will be on or about 14071 kHz as VE3WMB/VE9. PLEASE NOTE: This will be a 20m PSK31 (QRP) only operation. The list of lighthouses to be activated are :

This will be a very casual operation, and the hours may be a bit sporadic as this is not the primary activity of the trip. Michael hopes to operate daily from about 11:00-13:00 EST (1500-1700z) activating a different Lighthouse each day, then perhaps again a bit later 20:00-21:00 EST (0000-0100z) activating Gannet Rock (He has a clear view of the light from his cottage). LX, LUXEMBOURG
Dutch operators Peter/PA2PKZ, Arend/PA2AWU, Herman/PA0TEN, Roel/PA1DYK, Harry/PA3HEP, Frans/PA5CA and Jan PA5RA will be active from Wiltz using the callsign LX/PA6Z from September 21-28th. Operation will be 24/7 on 160-10 meters and possibly also 6m (if local TVI permits), on SSB, CW and RTTY. They will concentrate on the WARC bands and RTTY. OH0, ALAND ISLAND

PIRATE OPERATION
Stations identifying as HE0A and HB0A have been reported on the bands in recent months. Fred Tinner, HB9AAQ, the President of USKA, has checked with both the Switzerland and Liechtenstein licensing authorities, and has verified that the callsign's HE0A and HB0A have never been issued. Therefore these stations are pirates, and please do not send any QSL cards to the reported manager or to the Bureaus.

QSL INFO AND NEWS
Mart, DL6UAA, informs OPDX for 3B6-9 QSLing, "DO NOT SEND QSLs via the 3B8-Bureau." The 3B8-Bureau is ONLY a "one-way-bureau". Only incoming but not outgoing. Send the cards DIRECT to the operators in 3B8. Exception: Cards for 3B8MM go via DL6UAA (direct or bureau). The other resident stations have NO QSL Managers!! Also, RW6HS is NOT the QSL Manager for any 3B8/9 station!! REMEMBER: DL6UAA is NOT the QSL Manager for 3B8CF, 3B8GF or 3B8GL.

Keith, W7KEU, informs OPDX that North American hams that have worked Vit Dotsenko in Turkmenistan can get QSLs by using a stateside mail drop. Callsigns used by Vit include, EZ8CW, EZ8CW/3, EZ3A, EZ9A, EZ10A, EZ21A, EZ56V and EZ75R. Mail is sent from stateside via registered mail to Russia, and then into Turkmenistan. Return mail also comes register to the USA. If you have worked Vit and have had trouble getting your EZ QSLs, this is his preferred route. The success rate for the mail drop off is over 99 percent received. To use the mail drop, send your SASE with 37 cents postage, and two green stamps to KJ6OW. Turn around takes 30 to 60 days. For multiple QSL cards, including additional funds will help speed the process. Individual QSOs and QSLs are tracked via E-mail and radio contacts which accounts in large part for the high success rate.

Pete, NN9K, informs OPDX that he will handle the QSLs ONLY for the contacts made by FP/K9WM. Sending cards for the FP/KB9LIE or FP/K9OT operation to him will only lengthen the turnaround time for those confirmations.

Andy Chadwick (ex-G4ZVJ) has been issued the callsign G3AB (The callsign of Andy's late Uncle from 1937-1983). The G4ZVJ QSL route will remain active for DXpeditions. New E-mail address is: andy@g3ab.net

MORE ON GERMAN STAMPS (Addition to OPDX.574). Wolff, DJ5JH, states, "Regarding the warnings of DL1YFF as of the changes of the German stamps into EUR-currency, it should be added that this relates only to such (older) German stamps which show only one value, e.g. 110 or 300, without denomination of the currency, which means that it were Pfennig. For a long time the German stamps also showed their value, however, the Euro stamp shows a much smaller print/value (e.g. 110/0, 56 EUR or 300/1, 53 EUR). These are still valid and do not expire. If anybody has a greater amount of old German stamps without EUR on them, they should send these to a German ham friend who can exchange them at his post office into new stamps, but only until the end of September."

SN6F/1 QSL STATUS. Andy, SP6ECA, informs OPDX that cards for SN6F/1 (EU-132) in IOTA Contest activities for 1998, 1999, 2000 (QSL via SP6ECA) have been all confirmed. "14th Busan Asian Games" special event stations will be operating from August 10th through October 23rd, 2002. The special event station are:

SPECIAL EVENT
Special event station JU840C is expected to be active from October 21-31st to celebrate the 840th anniversary of Gengis Khan, the founder of the Mongolian empire. The Mongolian Radio Sport Federation is organizing an international DXpedition to Gengis Khan's birthplace in the Khentii Province.

The Chatelleraud Radio Club is currently active with the special event callsign TM2CMM until September 1st to celebrate the World Championships for hot-air balloons. Look for special event station UM9AA to be active August 27th through September 5th to celebrate Uzbekistan's 11 years of independence. The Kermadec DX Association is undertaking it's third DXpedition, this time to ZL7 Chatham Islands in October this year.

Our planned period of operation is from 17 October thru 28 October local times. We do stress these are our PLANNED operating times and actual times will depend on conditions at the time.

There have been a number of questiions asked about our operating Callsign and because of previous "Pirates" using our pre announced callsigns for ZL8RI and ZL9CI we are not releasing our ZL7 CALL SIGN at this time. I can assure you all that a "LEGITIMATE" call sign has been issued by the New Zealand Authorities and the Kermadec DX Association hopes that this callsign will not be made avilable for future use for a number of years.
