DXCC NEWS
* Many have been wondering why the 7O1YGF operation does not count for DXCC. It is recommended to read an interesting article on the ARRL Web page at:

http://www.arrl.org/news/stories/2002/08/15/2/?nc=1
In short, the DXCC wants "to know that it was authorized by the government..... The DXCC Desk also wants assurances that the Yemeni government would have no reason to disapprove of the ARRL's granting DXCC credit for the operation."

* Bill Moore, NC1L, DXCC Manager, announced two items of importance as we enter the final quarter of the 2002 calendar year: 1) This is just a reminder for all DXCC program participants that the September 30, 2002, deadline to have your submissions in for the next DXCC Annual List is rapidly approaching. The DXCC Annual List shows all those who have submitted an application to DXCC between October 1, 2001, through September 30, 2002. In order to be shown in the Annual list you must:

Submit an application between October 1, 2001 and September 30, 2002

-- or --
Be current on the DXCC Honor Roll. (Note, a submission is not necessary if you are current on the DXCC Honor Roll, but only those modes that are Honor Roll will be shown.)

** Applications must be received, or postmarked, September 30, 2002.

2) Christmas is coming and you should plan soon if you want to present someone with a wall plaque on time for Christmas as a nice gift. If you know someone who has achieved Top of Honor Roll, Honor Roll, 5 Band DXCC and even the DXCC Challenge, this would make a nice gift for them that they can treasure in their ham shack. Additionally, anyone who has qualified at some time in the past and may have dropped off the Honor Roll can still purchase the plaque. The only requirement is that you, at one time, qualified. If you are interested, the "DXCC Item Order Form" can be found on the DXCC web site at:

http://www.arrl.org/awards/dxcc

PIRATE OPERATION
Stations identifying as HE0A and HB0A have been reported on the bands in recent months. Therefore these stations are pirates, and please do not send any QSL cards to the reported manager or to the Bureaus.

QSL INFO AND NEWS
Mart, DL6UAA, informs OPDX for 3B6-9 QSLing, "DO NOT SEND QSLs via the 3B8-Bureau." The 3B8-Bureau is ONLY a "one-way-bureau". Only incoming but not outgoing. Send the cards DIRECT to the operators in 3B8. Exception: Cards for 3B8MM go via DL6UAA (direct or bureau). The other resident stations have NO QSL Managers!! Also, RW6HS is NOT the QSL Manager for any 3B8/9 station!! REMEMBER: DL6UAA is NOT the QSL Manager for 3B8CF, 3B8GF or 3B8GL.

Online logs are available for the IOTA Contest operation DL0KWH/p on EU-129 (as well pictures of the operation) at the Web page:

http://www.qsl.net/dl0kwh
QSL DL0KWH via the Bureau or direct to DL2VFR: Enrico Stumpf-Siering, Gruene Trift 19, D-15754 Bindow, Fed. Rep. of Germany

Keith, W7KEU, informs OPDX that North American hams that have worked Vit Dotsenko in Turkmenistan can get QSLs by using a stateside mail drop. Callsigns used by Vit include, EZ8CW, EZ8CW/3, EZ3A, EZ9A, EZ10A, EZ21A, EZ56V and EZ75R. Mail is sent from stateside via registered mail to Russia, and then into Turkmenistan. Return mail also comes register to the USA. If you have worked Vit and have had trouble getting your EZ QSLs, this is his preferred route. The success rate for the mail drop off is over 99 percent received. To use the mail drop, send your SASE with 37 cents postage, and two green stamps to KJ6OW. Turn around takes 30 to 60 days. For multiple QSL cards, including additional funds will help speed the process. Individual QSOs and QSLs are tracked via E-mail and radio contacts which accounts in large part for the high success rate.

QSL FO/JJ8DEN (activity from Maupiti Island (OC-067) and Maupihaa Groupe (OC-057) to: Yoshitake Izumi, Minami-24-7, Nishi-1, Obihiro-City, Hokkaido, 080-0011, JAPAN.

Pete, NN9K, informs OPDX that he will handle the QSLs ONLY for the contacts made by FP/K9WM. Sending cards for the FP/KB9LIE or FP/K9OT operation to him will only lengthen the turnaround time for those confirmations.

Andy Chadwick (ex-G4ZVJ) has been issued the callsign G3AB (The callsign of Andy's late Uncle from 1937-1983). The G4ZVJ QSL route will remain active for DXpeditions. New E-mail address is: andy@g3ab.net

MORE ON GERMAN STAMPS (Addition to OPDX.574). Wolff, DJ5JH, states, "Regarding the warnings of DL1YFF as of the changes of the German stamps into EUR-currency, it should be added that this relates only to such (older) German stamps which show only one value, e.g. 110 or 300, without denomination of the currency, which means that it were Pfennig. For a long time the German stamps also showed their value, however, the Euro stamp shows a much smaller print/value (e.g. 110/0, 56 EUR or 300/1, 53 EUR). These are still valid and do not expire. If anybody has a greater amount of old German stamps without EUR on them, they should send these to a German ham friend who can exchange them at his post office into new stamps, but only until the end of September."

Effective immediately, Patrick, WD9EWK, will be the QSL Manager for Oscar, LU5EVK (also L20E in contests). His address information is current on the various callsign databases, and he is OK with the W9 QSL bureau. LU5EVK's entries on the QRZ.com and Buckmaster Web sites now show Patrick's callsign as the QSL manager. Patrick has added information about LU5EVK (and other stations and callsigns he handles QSL cards for) on his QSL VIA WD9EWK Web page at:

http://www.qsl.net/wd9ewk/qsl-mgr.html

Rod, EA7JX, informs OPDX that he is now the QSL Manager for Javi, LU5FF, and his special callsigns: L24FF, L45FF, LQ0F, AY5FF and L73F. Send QSLs via direct to: Rodrigo Herrera, P.O. Box 47, 41310, Brenes, Sevilla, Spain.

Ron, AC7DX, informs OPDX that he is now the QSL Manager for LW9DA.

Ari, OH5DX (ex OH1EH), is the QSL Manager for OH0Z and has recently picked up a new callsign, OH5DX. The updated QSL info for OH0Z is as follows: Ari Korhonen, OH5DX, Kreetalank. 9A1, FIN29200 Harjavalta, Finland.

The Kermadec DX Association is undertaking it's third DXpedition, this time to ZL7 Chatham Islands in October this year.

Our planned period of operation is from 17 October thru 28 October local times. We do stress these are our PLANNED operating times and actual times will depend on conditions at the time.

There have been a number of questiions asked about our operating Callsign and because of previous "Pirates" using our pre announced callsigns for ZL8RI and ZL9CI we are not releasing our ZL7 CALL SIGN at this time. I can assure you all that a "LEGITIMATE" call sign has been issued by the New Zealand Authorities and the Kermadec DX Association hopes that this callsign will not be made avilable for future use for a number of years.

It is with grest pleasure that we wish to announce our international team as follows.

Hiro Miyake JF1OCQ ZL1WY W1VX
Reinhard Maute DF4TD
Steve Taylor G4EDG
Paul Rubinfield WF5T

Bob McQuarrie ZL3TY
Ken Holdom ZL4HU also ZL2HU (Team Leader)
With this team, many of whom are well known and experienced DXpeditioners, we can assure the DX world that our intentions are to provide as many contacts as possible on all bands, 160 through 10 metres and some 6 meters where possible. We will also have 2 meter capability but this will be considerably limited for obvious reasons.

The Kermadec Dx Association is looking forward to yet another successfull DXpedition and we have allready received some generous equipment support from many of those who supported our previous two hightly successful DXpeditions.

As we are only to well aware any DXpedition takes some considerable organising and expense and we would would greatly appreciate as much financial support as possible. Donations may be sent to our new address which is:

Kermadec DX Association ZL7
P O Box 7
Clyde
Central Otago
New Zealand

All donations will be acknowledged and we would prefer an email address with your support.

PLEASE NOTE that the above address is the ONLY VALID address for DIRECT QSL'ing. We will also be QSL'ing via the Bureau.

As we intend to have quality QSL cards printed AFTER the DXpedition there will be some delay in posting these out. We would apreciate your patience in this regard. Announcements will be made when postal mail outs are beginning.

At this time we are intending to have a Web site and ON-Line logs. Further information regarding these two aspects will be provided at a later date.

Please Note. For this DXpedition We Will NOT be E-Qsling.

Trusting we have provide you all with sufficient information, we now look forward to meeting you on the air from ZL7 in October.

Kind Regards and good DXing
