3DA0, SWAILAND (Possibly from A25 also!)
Look for Hide, JM1LJS, to be
active May 1-4th, as 3DA0LJ. Activity will be 40-6 meters SSB and CW).
QSL via home callsign. ADDED NOTE: Hide might possibly operate for a few
hours on April 30th from Botswana, probably as A25/JM1LJS. Activity will

7W, ALGERIA (New IOTA To Be Activated!)
Steve, OM3JW, states preparations
for a DXpedition to Habbibas Islands (7X, AF-NEW, LH- 0970) are now
finished. Operators 7X2RO, 7X2YL, 7X2ZL, 7X2SA, DL7FER, OM3CGN, OM2DX
and OM3JW will be active May 14-18th using the special callsign 7W4HI.
The Habbibas Islands are in the Mediterranean Sea Coast West Group. They
plan to run two stations barefoot (100W) to verticals and dipoles. QSL
info will be announced later.
8Q, MALDIVES
Operators JA2AAU, JR2FOR, JA2AZX, JA2AIC, JA2ALN, JJ2KYT
and JA2ATE will be active as 8Q7NK, 8Q7FO, 8Q7HS, 8Q7IC, 8Q7JA, 8Q7MI
and 8Q7TE, respectively, May 10-15th. Activity will be on 80-10 meters
CW/SSB/RTTY/PSK31/SSTV. QSL via their home callsigns.
AN AWARD REFLECTOR (InterNet Mailing List)
Egbert, ON4CAS, UBA Award
Manager, informs OPDX that an international mailing list is now available
to award hunters. He states, "Time has come to offer award enthusiasts a
forum where they can discuss award hunting in general. Any licensed HAM
and SWL with a genuine interest in this part of our hobby is invited to

DXCC NEWS
As of press time, the DXCC Desk is currently processing DXCC submissions
that were received the week of April 13th. If you would like to know

Pete, K8PT, just received a bunch of cards back from the ARRL DX Desk

4U1VIC, AUSTRIA
The Vienna International Center Station, 4U1VIC, will
be activated from May 10-12th by DF5AU/Johannes, DL9NDV/Michael, JH4RHF/Jun
and DJ9AO/Oliver. They will take part in CQ-MIR-DX-Contest on all HF
Contest bands and try to be active via satellite RS-12 mode K, too. The
QSL comes automatic via the bureau or with a direct request to 4U1VIC.
C6, BAHAMAS
John, WZ8D, reports he has his plane tickets for his next
trip to Abaco Island (FL16iq) from June 3rd through June 13th. He will
be active in the June VHF Contest using bands 6 and 2 meters for the
contest. He plans to operate on the other bands when six meter is not
busy. Please send all QSLs to WZ8D: John Walker, 1930 Meredith Ln.,
Loveland, Ohio 45140. To receive a nice picture QSL you need to send
the card direct with a SASE if inside the USA. All others must send SAE
with 1 IRC or U.S. dollar. No cards will be sent through the QSL bureau.
ADDED NOTE: John also states he hopes to be on from a couple of rare
grids from Canada in July or August; more on this later.
C6, BAHAMAS
Joe, W8GEX, and his C6AJR crew will be going back to
Eleuthera for the 10-10 contest. This is around the end of July. They
will most likely be using the callsign C6DX during the contest. They will
also be on six meters from FL15 with 100 watts and a 3 element beam.
FR/T, TROMELIN
Jacques, FR5ZU, will be once more on Tromelin Island
(AF-031; DIFO FR-006) for his job, from June 5th to July 5th. Look for
him on the air during his spare time on all HF bands SSB and RTTY, as
FR5ZU/T. At the beginning of his work duty, his activity hours will be:
0200-0400z, 0900-1000z and 1300-1500z. Jacques expects to be active more

IOTA NEWS
AS-049. Hiroshi, JO1EPY, will activate Tokara Island (Kuchino-shima,
Toshima-mura, Kagoshima-gun, Kagoshima-ken) as JO1EPY/6 from
June 8-10th. Activity will be on 40/17/15/12/10/6 meters
CW/SSB, however, his main bands will be 17 and 15 meters.
QSL via his home callsign, either via the bureau or direct
to (per QRZ.com): Hiroshi Kotoku, 3-4-19 Kishimachi, Kawagoe,
Saitama 350-1131 Japan.
EU-011. The Taunton and District ARC (TADARC) will be using the special event callsign, GB0SM, from St. Mary's, Isles of Scilly, from May 18-25th. Activity will be on 160-10 meters, CW/SSB and RTTY. QSL via the Bureau or direct to G3WNI: Bill Lindsay-Smith, Way Close, Madford, Hemyock, Devon EX25 1AB, England. E-mail requests for QSLs received via the Bureau can be sent to:
EU-028. Look for IA5G to be activated by seven operators on the weekend of May 4-5th from Gorgona Island.
EU-057. A group of German operators (namely DH8WLA, DL1APR, DL1APW, DL2AXA, DL5AOJ, DM3BJ and DL9NDS) will be active from Ummanz Island (O-06 for German Islands Award) from May 9-13th. Their activity will be on all bands using CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK31. QSL via their home callsigns. Updates will be posted on the Web page at:
EU-130. Andy/IV3SKB and Mauro/IV3HAX were expected to activate Conchiglie Island (I.I.A UD-005) this past weekend. Andy informed OPDX to QSL via their home callsign. More info can be found on their Web sites at:
NA-136. Tony/WF1N and Lou/W1DIG will be on the The Thimble Islands, Pot Island, May 17-19th. Their operation, with a tribander and amp, will be on/near the usual IOTA frequencies, (40m, 7.260+/- at the top of the hour), SSB, will start around 1500z Friday and end about 1800z Sunday. QSL to home callsigns direct (SAE and postage, PLEASE) or Bureau. Tony, WF1N, a.spino@snet.net , and Lou, W1DIG, megawatt@snet.net, will accept requests for Bureau Cards via E-mail. E-mail requests do not require a card to them via the Bureau.
SA-026. Paul, PY3DX, is planning to take a part in the upcoming CQ WPX CW Contest, in late May, signing with his special callsign PU3A from Santa Catarina Island. Activity will exclusively be on CW all bands, but he will pay special attention to the low bands, during the contest evenings. The QSL Manager for PU3A is PY3DX (ok in QRZ.com or via the bureau).
ITALIAN ISLANDS ACTIVATED
An Italian group of operators called "Project
DX Team", have and will activate a few islands this week. Over the past
weekend they activated Bacucco Island (IIA RO-004 - NO IOTA) and Scannone
di Goro Island (IIA FE-005 - NO IOTA). From April 29-30th, look for them
to activate Baron Island (IIA FE-003 - IOTA EU-155). On May 1st, look
for them again to activate Scannone di Goro Island (FE-005 - NO IOTA).
The team's activity will be on HF and 6 meters SSB, with a possibility
of some RTTY. Team operators are: IK2XDE/Andrea, IK2XDF/Giampaolo,
IK2JYT/Giovanni, IK2RZL/Matteo, IK2ZJR/Antonio, IW2NHE/Alberto and IW2LWB/
Fabio. QSL via their home callsigns, either direct or through the bureau.
JD1, OGASAWARA ISLAND
This seems to be a BIG week for this island to be
activated by several JA operators. Look for the following group of operators
Yone/JM3FVL, Naga/JE5DTS, Hide/JG4LSR and Yuzo/JL4CVB to sign homecall/JD1
from Chichi-jima from now through May 4th. They plan to be active on 80-6
meters SSB/CW/PSK31/RTTY. QSLs via bureau. Also expected to be active, but
from the club station, JD1YBO, in Apli will be Kimura/JR3PZW, Tack/JD1BKQ
and Nori/JA1OZK.
KH1, BAKER ISLAND
The KH1 team had a smooth sailing try to Baker Island
and are now active as K1B. The team consists of: KW4DA, LY3NUM, N6TSQ,
RA3AUU, RW3AH, RZ3AA, S56A, YT1AD, YU1AU, YU1DX, Z32ZM, ZS6MG, USFW
representative Mr. Doug Forsell and Mr. Jordan Naydenov photo and
multi-media expert. For up-to-date news and on-line logs, please visit

LIGHTHOUSE ACTIVITY AND NEWS
Albert, RV3GW, reports to look for R6/UR3IFD/p, R6/UX7IM/p, UA6MC/p,
UA6LP/6, RA3GD/6 and RV3GW/6 to be active from several insular lighthouses
in the Azov Sea (WLH #0493, #0761, #0935, RRA new one, RLHA new ones)
on May 1-6th. Their planned activity will include two stations (100w)
with GP and dipoles with operations on 40-10 meters. Main operations
will be on 20 and 17 meters with an emphasis outside of Europe. QSL
via their home callsigns.
Filippo, IK4ZHH, had to postponed his activity from Wail Lighthouse (ER 003 ARLHS - ITA 052) due to bad weather conditions.
QSL INFO AND NEWS
P5/4L4FN QSLS. QSL Manager Bruce, KK5DO, states that he has the QSLs
in hand and is currently stuffing envelopes now. Cards should be going
out in about 2-3 weeks.
Alberto, LU1DZ, who is active as AY1DZ until the end of this year, celebrating the GACW 25th Anniversary under the Amateur Radio (a safe way for our children, high school program), states to please not send him any QSLs via bureau. He is not a bureau member. Alberto will be uploading his log every week into eQSLcc. If you need a paper QSL, please send it with one IRC to: Alberto U. NOT THE MANAGER! Antonello, IK2DUW, informs OPDX that he is NOT the QSL Manager for UA0FO.
Fran, EA7FTR, informs OPDX that he is the new QSL Manager for the following station: Rob/OA2AEL from Peru, Gustavo/CM2AI from Cuba (likes CW QSOs) and Greg/YV5OHW (who can still send cards with contact work in his previous logs. All the cards go via EA7FTR.
Jon, WB8YJF/FO0SEV, informs OPDX that he should have his QSLs for his operation as FO0SEV any time now. He requests that people PLEASE don't send second requests! It has taken 3+ months so far (to receive the QSLs), and he has been told they were mailed from Europe about 12 days ago. Cards will go out as soon as he get them.
QSL Manager Terry, N6CW, for the following stations prefers to have all QSLs sent direct to him. However, he does accept E-mail request for Bureau card ONLY. This is to cut down on the expense and time for bureau cards. He does have an E-mail address specifically for this purpose:

ZY3PEI activity over the past weekend was from Itapua Fortress, which is also a lighthouse placed very close to Porto Alegre in southern Brazil. The operators were as follows: PY3JAF/Fauth, PY3YY/Andy, PY3KK/Koetz and PY3DX/Paul. The QSL Manager for ZY3PEI is PY3JAF (ok in QRZ.com).
SPECIAL EVENT
Commemorating the 128th running of the Kentucky Derby,
Amateur Radio Transmitting Society members will activate W4CN on Saturday,
May 4th, from 1100-1700z. Frequencies will be (+/- 20 KHz): 7200 kHz,
14275 kHz, 21275 kHz and 28350 kHz. A full color 8X10 certificate,
suitable for framing, is available. U.S. stations send 1 USD and DX
stations send 2 USDs, to cover cost of printing and postage, along with
your QSL card. SASE IS NOT REQUIRED!! Any station desiring a QSL card,
along with the certificate, please indicate with your own QSL card.
Certificates for DX stations WILL NOT be returned via the ARRL outgoing
QSL bureau! Any DX station desiring just a QSL card, may request via:
USI NEWS
Mark Harville, KG8DP, President of the Rusty Zipper HF and DX Contest
Club, informs OPDX that he and Doug, N8TUT, (the primary operators)
will activate two Ohio islands for the U.S. Island Award. Activity will
be from Kelley's Island (OH-001L) and South Bass Island (OH-007L) from
May 31st through June 1st using the callsign NA8KD. They plan to have
2 (possibly 3) stations active on 80-2 meters CW/SSB. The finalizing
of plans and sponsorship is in part through Heil Microphones (Bob Heil)
and Tarheel Antennas of North Carolina. QSL will be via NA8KD. Mark
informs us that he has good contacts with the Lake Erie folks, and
depending on how this one goes, perhaps an activation of an island not
activated yet might be possible.
VQ9, CHAGOS ISLAND
Jesse, AB5RY, continues to be active as VQ9J. He is
there on duty for the U.S. Air Forces for about another 4 months. His
activity will be on all bands CW/SSB. QSL with a SASE to K5QM.
ZD7K/ZD8K VIDEO
Although the project had been shelved due to lack of
interest, Doug, G0WMW, has now been talked into running some copies of
the "Double DXpedition" video. This 45min version was shown at the
HF/IOTA Convention (Windsor, UK) and at the GMDX Conference. The master
tape goes for duplication in mid-May, with copies available mid-June
(earliest). If you want a copy, order by E-mail via g0wmw@arrl.net as
soon as possible (May 15 deadline), and state which format (NTSC or PAL).
Price, shipping included, is 14 UKPounds (to UK addresses), or 23 Euro
(to EU), or 22 US$ (NTSC or PAL, to DX).
