4W, EAST TIMOR
Carlos, CU3FT, has arrived in East-Timor and is expected to sign 4W/CU3FT. His activity is due to start as soon as possible. No QSNs have been reported as of writing this. Look for him to be active on all bands especially the WARC bands and 6 meters. QSL via CT1EEB. Meanwhile, Thor, 4W6MM, continues to be active (usually seems to be on the weekends) usually after 0630z on 20/15 meters CW with some SSB activity.

6M BEACON BACK ON THE AIR!
After several years off the air, PT7BCN came back to life again on the 6 meters band, frequency 50.078 MHz. The transmission is experimental, and listener's reports are welcome and can be sent to Luc, PT7WA, at: pt7wa@matrix.com.br The beacon is located in the State of Cearah (PT7) on the North East side of Brazil. The 6 meters propagation to this part of Brazil can be diferent considering the usual paths to the South or even to the North part of the country.

9K, KUWAIT
Hamad, 9K2HN, states to look for him to sign 9K9X in the CQWW SSB Contest as a Single Op/All Band entry. QSL is "OK" via the Bureau.

A5, BHUTAN
Dave Anderson, KW4DA, will be active as A52DA from October 23rd through November 1st, 2001, from the Bhutan Ham Centre. Dave is part of the team going to Bhutan for the CQWW SSB Contest October 27th and 28th, operating as A50A. Prior to and following the contest he will be active on all bands and the following modes: CW, RTTY, PSK, SSB and SSTV. Other modes are possible if requested. There will be no set schedule, but E-mail will be monitored if a special mode or band is requested. Every attempt will be made to accommodate requests with time and equipment pending. C6, BAHAMAS
Five members of the Magnolia DX Association will be active during the CQWW SSB Contest from Treasure Cay, Abaco Island (IOTA NA-080), using the callsign C6AKO. The group consists of Ernie/W5OXA, Randy/W5UE, Alan/N5PA, Stan/K5NY and Bernie/KK5EW. They will be there from October 22-29th. Most operators plan to be active the week prior to the contest using homecall/C6A on all bands on SSB, CW and perhaps RTTY. QSLs for the contest callsign (C6AKO) is via W5OXA. DXCC NEWS (Update!)
Bill Moore, NC1L, DXCC Manager, reports "With the help of recent inquiries on the InterNet, DXCC has received, and accepted, documentation for TT8DX (Chad). Anyone who has submitted it and had it rejected should contact DXCC and we'll be able to update their record without having to submit the card again. If not, it can be sent in the next submission." It has also been reported that TT8JE is now good for DXCC.

EP, IRAN
EP3PTT was active over the past weekend on 15 meters SSB/RTTY. Watch around 21255 and 21080 kHz between 1230-1630z.

FO, MARQUESAS (Update)
Janusz, SP9FIH, informed OPDX that his FO/SP9FIH operation will probably be on the air (depends on flight schedule) from October 24th through November 10th. Activity will be SSB only on 80-6 meters on the usual DX frequencies or 14180, 21280 and 28480 kHz. QSL via SP9FIH: Janusz Wegrzyn, Box 480, 44-100 Gliwice, Poland.

FP, ST. PIERRE & MIQUELON
Stan/AC8W and Henry/K8DD will operate from here October 25-31st.They will use wire antennas and two 100w transceivers. Look for FP/AC8W and FP/K8DD as single band entries in the CQ World Wide DX SSB Contest. QSL via home call.

HP, PANAMA
Elio, HP1BYS, will be active in the CQWW SSB Contest as a Single Op/Single Band (20 meters) entry. QSL via HP1BYS.

HV, VATICAN
Station HV5PUL will be active from the Pontifical Lateran University (Vatican City State) on November 6th during "Dies Accademicus", the opening day of the academic year 2001-2002. Operations will be on the HF bands, and 6 and 2 meters from 0800-1700z. Other operations are scheduled for October 20th during the station's setup and after November 6th, however, calendar activities have to be defined. QSL HV5PUL to Luca, IW0DJB. IOTA NEWS
AS-056. LAST CHANCE! Masa, JA6GXK, will leave Danjo Archipelago next spring for his work, however, he will be active continuously from Danjo Archipelago, as follows: November 6-15th, November 27the through December 6th and December 27th through January 7th, 2002. This is not a DXpedition, but he will be active in his spare time. QSL via the Bureau (JARL) or direct to the JA6GXK.

NA-NEW. OPDX has been informed that the members of the XE1RCS contest team will activate, for the first time, Isla de Lobos on Mexico's Veracruz State North Group, from Thursday, November 1st to Sunday, November 4th. This new IOTA operation will be active on SSB and CW with 4 stations: 2 on HF (80-10 meters including the WARC bands), one on 50 MHz and one on FM satellites. The special callsign and QSL info will be announced shortly.

Malcolm, G4CXT, reports that location details, QSL information, operating schedules are available for all the UK stations taking part in the International Scout Jamboree on the Air (JOTA), October 20-21st, 2001, at the following Web site:

LIGHTHOUSE ACTIVITY
The University of Florida Radio Club is planning a Lighthouse Operation for the weekend of October 20-21st. They plan to activate the Cedar Key Island Lighthouse on the west coast of Florida. It will be a first time ever operation from that lighthouse and is part of IOTA NA-76. They have permission to operate from approximately 10 AM Local Time (1400z) Saturday morning until 5 PM Local Time (2100z) Sunday night, the 21st. The lighthouse is only accessable by rowboat. The callsigns used will be W4DFU, The Gator Club, and WA4ET, David Price's callsign. David is putting the effort together. The primary bands will be 10, 15, and 20 meters. Some operation may take place on 40 meters and 18 Mhz. It will be mostly SSB with some CW planned. QSL to W4DFU or WA4ET.

STOP PLEASE! Well-known QSL Manager Joe Arcure, W3HNK, offered to help to obtain JT1CO cards. He must now withdraw his offer. Joe states, "Someone deemed it necessary to tell the world I was his QSL Manager and my mail load is out of hand. I am NOT nor do I plan to be his QSL Manager. Please ...no more cards...."

Charly, K4VUD, has informed the DX community to be careful in sending for his HS0ZCW cards. Some individuals are sending them to Thailand instead of the U.S. The address on "QRZ.COM" has Thailand listed on the last line of the address, but it is actually an U.S. address. The correct address is: Charly Harpole, 3100 HWY, 426 North, Geneva, FL 32732-9761 USA.

Gennady, UX5UO, informs OPDX that QSLs for EN10U, EO10B, EO10N and EO10W, active on the air in celebration for the 10th Anniversary of the Independence of Ukraine, are now printed and available via UX5UO. SV9, CRETE
Ben, DL6FBL, will visit the QTH of Michael, SV9CVY, and be active during the CQWW DX SSB Contest, October 27-28, as a Single/Op/ All Band entry. T8, PALAU
Lee, HL1IWD, informs OPDX that he is scheduled to visit Palau during this month for a medical mission between October 20-24th. His callsign will be T88YB and he will mainly concentrated on 20 meters CW. All of the contacts will be confirmed automatically through the bureau.

TI, COSTA RICA
Dick, W5AA, will be active as W5AA/TI8 for the next 6 weeks starting October 18th. He hopes to finish 5BDXCC from here. He will be active mostly on 80 meters (ed. states he needs only 50 more countries on 80m) and will be active in the CQWW SSB Contest.

V4, St. KITTS & NEVIS ISLANDS
Sam, G4OHX, is expected to be active from here now through October 24th, as V47OHX. Sam will operate on 20 meters CW looking for FISTS and RSARS members to communicate their membership numbers. He has been heard on 14007 kHz around 2100z, 14017 kHz around 0030z and 14055 kHz around 1000z. QSL via his home callsign.

V6, DUCIE ISLAND (The Next New DXCC Entity!)
"The Daily DX" reported early last week that the "Pitcairn Island Amateur Radio Association" (PIARA) has announced that all planning is now complete for their operation from Ducie Island and expects to be admitted into the IARU society on November 16th. If PIARA does become a member of the IARU, Pitcairn Island will become a "Political Entity" under DXCC Rules, "Section II. DXCC LIST CRITERIA" under "Criteria: 1.c)". Ducie Island will qualify as a new DXCC entity under the same section, but under "Criteria: 2.Geographic Separation Entity, Part b) Island Area (Separation by Water)". To celebrate the event, the group will be operational using a VP6 callsign to be announced at the beginning of the operation at 0000z on November 16th (depending upon any transportation problems that may arise). The group intends to provide contacts with as many different amateur radio operators as possible during their stay on the island. Operators will be Tom/VP6TC, Dave/VP6DB, Kan/VP6BK/JA1BK, Hitoshi/JF1IST, Tamama/JA1SLS, Mike/K9AJ, Vince/K5VT and Philippe/FO3BM. The pilot station is Dr. Bill Avery, K6GNX. QSL Manager is Garth Hamilton, VE3HO (cards can be sent via the bureau or direct with a SASE). Their suggested main band plan is as follows:

15 meters - Look for them to be active on 21020 kHz (CW) and 21295 kHz (SSB) 24 hours each day. This is to allow individuals more time to find and work the group depending on their propagation in their area.

20/10 meters - These two bands are expected to be their main SSB frequencies. Watch 28495 kHz and 14195 kHz. Also, watch 14020 kHz to be their main CW frequency other than 15 meters.

There will be some activity on the other bands (160-6 meters), as well as RTTY in addition to SSB and CW operations. However, it is expected that low band and WARC operations are more likely to take place in the last days of the operation. The reason for this is so they can concentrate on their main goal to allow as many stations as possible to work this rare IOTA and probable new DXCC entity. The group requests to please do not dupe your contacts, however, there will not be any blacklisting for duping a contact. A log search will be available on the Web at:

XT, BUKINA FASO
The Voodoo Contest Group will be active in the CQWW CW Contest, on November 24-25th, from Ouagadougou. They will enter as a Multi-Multi category with six stations. Operators will include G3PJT, G3SXW, G3XTT, G4BWP, G4IFB, G4PIQ, KC7V. QSL via G3SXW.

ZONE 2
"Team Zone 2" will again be activating the rare Zone 2 for this year's CQ World-Wide SSB Contest from their remote contest location in the northwestern part of the province of Quebec, Canada. This operation is totally powered by generator. The callsign will be VB2V, a special event callsign commemorating the "United Nations International Year of the Volunteer". They will be active from October 23rd to October 29th. If time permits they will activate the rare grid FO10 on six meters. The operators involved are: VE3DBF, VA3RD, VE3BIX, VE3BY, VA3KO, VE3TV, VA3RMF, VA3OK, NB1B, N1NK, VE3SRE, VE3TPZ, VE3KJS,VE3HAE, VA3TSG, VA3FIN and VE3XAP. QSL via VE3BY or USA ops can QSL via NB1B.
