The papays.com website has moved to a new site on the East Coast. Over the past
few weeks there were major problems with our webhost in California and attempts to
get them resolved did not work. The new hosting service has been much better so far.
There are more features available to me and we will take advantage of them over the next
few months. One feature will be to incorporate a search engine for the opdx bulletin directory.
All of the opdx bulletins will be available for searching. The older bulletins will be in text
form rather than formatted html like this one, but you will be able to read them and search
for information.
During the move, you may have experienced broken pages or may have been directed to the old site. The DNS changes have propagated through the network now and everyone should be pointing to the new server. If you are having problems, please email me at k8yse@papays.com. Do not use k8yse@en.com as that address will stop working in a few months.

3DA, SWAZILAND
Siegfried/DL7DF and crew will target Swaziland for this
year's DXpedition. Their licenses have already been issued and the
callsigns will be 3DA0DF and 3DA0FR. The DXpedition will take place
between September 30th and October 13th. Activity will be on all HF bands
(plus 6m) on CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK31. Four operators will participate:
Frank/DL7UFR, DL7KL, DL4WK and DL7DF. Their equipment consists of three
transceivers, two linears, beam antennas, a Titanex V80 low band vertical
plus other vertical antennas. The team will be on the usual frequencies
+/- QRM, always using split. QSL via DL7DF. An online log and updated
information on the DXpedition will be available at:
8P, BARBADOS
Mario, K2ZD, is now active as 8P9JM through September 9th.
His activity will be on 40-6 meters with wire antennas and 100 watts.
However, since this is a business trip he will be active only in the
evenings when time permits.
9A, CROATIA (Island Operations)
Mario, DJ2MX, informs OPDX that he will
be active as 9A/N0MX from Brac Island (EU-016, CI-10) on 80-10 meters
CW/SSB between September 2-15th. He has plans to be active (only for a
few hours) from some of the other Croatian islands (Hvar Island EU-016,
CI-28; Vis Island EU-016 CI-142; Solta Island EU-016 CI-126 and Ciovo
Island CI-13 NOT IOTA). QSL cards are OK only via his German callsign

9H, MALTA
A group of Dutch radio amateurs from the V.R.Z.A. (Dutch Amateur
Radio Society) will once again be active from Malta Island. They will be
active from September 14th through October 6th. Operations will be on
40-2 meters including the WARC bands. Malta has an IOTA number EU-023 and
a Grid Locator number of JM75FV. They have obtained the very exclusive
callsign 9H0VRZ to be used by the members of their group. For only the
callsign 9H0VRZ, the QSL Manager is PA7DX: Anton Kerkhof, Blaublomke 2,
8401 MG GORREDIJK, The Netherlands. Each member of the group will also

AP, PAKISTAN
Reports indicate that Peter, ON6TT, is once again traveling
to Pakistan. He is reportedly carrying some additional equipment for the
club station AP2ARS in his luggage. Look for him to be active on the
low bands this week. QSL CW QSOs via S53R and SSB QSOs via ON5NT.
CARIBBEAN TOUR 2001 - SUMMARY/RESULTS
Rob, PA5ET, sent the following
press release to all OPDX readers: "We hope you enjoyed 4 weeks of radio
activity from J3 and J8 like we did. We logged 25,825 QSOs from Carriacou
(J3) and 24,323 QSOs from Bequia (J8) on CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK31 from
160-10 meters. Our goal was to make 50,000 QSOs which has just been met.
The 2 stations have been active around the clock, which has been a touch
job for only 4 operators. The PacketClusters worldwide have been making
overtime. The Tour web site is still alive
D4, CAPE VERDE
Members of the Marconi Contest Club (MCC) (Alberto/IV3TAN,
Fabio/I4UFH, Gabriele/IK4UPB, Luca/IK2NCJ, Stefano/IK2JUB, Matt/IK2SGC),
Antonio/CT1DVV and Tony/CT1ESV, announce that they will be active during
the CQWW SSB Contest as a Multi/Single entry with the D44TC callsign.
Activity will be from SAL Island (AF-086). The station is ready with 3
towers 60 feet high, Force 12 antennas, Titanex verticals and beverages
for the low bands. QSL direct to IV3TAN. Fabio, I4UFH, from the group
informs OPDX that plans are being made to be active in all major contests
during the next years, as SO / MS / MM category. Future plans include the
following: 2001 CQWW SSB M/S, 2001 CQWW CW SO/AB, 2001 ARRL10, 2002 ARRL
DX SO/SB and 2002 WPX SSB M/S.
DX BASH
The West Texas DX Association will host its 11th Annual DX BASH,
October 5-6th, at the W5KFT contest station located on Lake Buchanan in
Central Texas. This is a great weekend of fun with contesters and DXers

FR/T, TROMELIN
Remember to look for Jack, FR5ZU, to be active this week
from here. He will be at the weather station on the island and is expected
to be here between September 6th and October 5th. Activity will be on
SSB using 100 watts and with verticals. Suggested frequencies are: 3773,

FW, FUTUNA ISLAND
Guy, FW5ZL, reports that he will be on IOTA OC-118
from September 6-21st. He did not mention what bands or modes he will
use, but he will be using a 100 watts and a dipole.
IOTA NEWS
AS-109. A team of Nadym DX Club members will be active from Narechi
Island (RR-06-24), September 5-12th. Operators are Nikolai/UA9KM
(Team Leader), Serge/UA9KL, Mike/UA9KO, Valery/UA9KJ, Andy/RA9KM,
Mike/UA9KGH and Boris/UA9LAC. They will be active as RI9K on
80-10 meters (including the WARC bands) CW and SSB. They will
have 3 stations active with 2 Log Yagis and dipoles with a
linear amplifier for this expedition. This expedition is
dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the NADYMGAZPROM - general
sponsor of Nadym DX Club and organizer of this trip. QSLs for

EU-011. Three members of the Western DX Cluster Group, G3WNI/Bill,
G0PSE/Tom and G0WMW/Doug, will be activating St. Mary's Island
in the Isles of Scilly with the callsign GB0SM from October
6-13th. Activity will be 160-10 meters, mainly CW and SSB but
also some RTTY and PSK31. QSL via the Bureau or direct to G3WNI.

EU-039. Jean Yves/F5LHW, Pascal/F5RZJ, Herve/F8BFB, Eric/F0DIT will be on Chausey Island from Sepetmebre 10-14th. They will be active on 80-10 meters SSB/CW; also on 6m, 2m, 70cm and ATV. QSL preferably via the bureau.
EU-136. Peter, 9A/DL4AMK, will be active between September 1-14th from the Island of Losinj (EU-136, CI-058). Peter will use an IC-735 (w/amp 650 watts) and a Gap Eagle antenna.
OC-034. Andy, P29AM (QSL via NU5O), and Harry, P29WS (QSL via W4HUT), will be active from Lae Island, mainly on 1830, 3520, 3780, 7023, 14023, 14200 and 14226.5 kHz starting on September 7th. Their stay is planned until September 16th.
KH4, MIDWAY ISLAND
Members of JNN-DX Group will be active from here
September 23-29th. Operators Nao/JE7RJZ (WH2M/WH4) and Koln/JP1JFG
(N2IU/KH4) will be active on 80-6 meters, possibly 160 meters as well.

LIGHTHOUSE ACTIVITY/NEWS
Ted Sarah, W8TTS, has announced plans for a lighthouse expedition to
the Lake Erie Islands in September. The schedule includes Marblehead
(USA-472), S. Bass Island (USA-769), Green Island (USA-353), Sandusky
Harbor (USA-739) and Vermilion (USA-868). He will be operating on the
usual ARLHS frequencies at approximately 1530z and 2300z on September
10th, 11th and 12th.
Look for possibly a new island and a new lighthouse to be activated for the many deserving when the Sheffield Island, CT, expedition takes place from 1300z September 29th through 2000z September 30th. Operations will be on 80/40/20/15/10 meters, including SSB, CW, RTTY and PSK31. QSL go to the GNARC Contest Club, N1EV, 324 Main Avenue, Box 115, Norwalk, CT 06851. Stateside operators are asked to include a SASE, while DX should include an IRC or green stamp.
ARLHS To Hold First Convention! Members of the Amateur Radio Lighthouse Society (ARLHS) will gather in Georgia this November for their first ever convention. The event is set for Friday and Saturday, November 9 and 11 at the Holiday Inn- I95 in Brunswick. The burgeoning organization is less than a year old and already has almost 400 members worldwide. Jim Weidner, K2JXW, (ARLHS #001) founder and president of ARLHS, urged all members to mark the dates on their calendars and plan to attend. Lee Graves, WA7OBH, (ARLHS #155), who with Jim Buffington, K5JIM, (ARLHS #150), came up with the idea for the convention, noted that activities are expected to include a banquet, an informal poolside gathering and an opportunity to operate portable or mobile from the historic lighthouse at nearby St. Simons Island. Jeff Cole, N4XGI, (ARLHS #376), who is keeper at St. Simons, will give tours of the lighthouse and museum. A special convention room rate of 59.95 (USD) plus tax is available to those attending by contacting the Holiday Inn I-95 in Brunswick direct at 912-264-4033. "Be sure to mention ARLHS in order to get the special rate," said Graves. Members are encouraged to make their reservations soon, since the block of rooms set aside for the convention is limited and are expected to be taken quickly. Graves and Buffington emphasized that dress will be casual the entire weekend.
NH0, NORTHERN MARIANA ISLAND
Operators JQ1UKK, JF2SKV, JK2VOC, JG3VEI
and JE6MYI will participate in the CQWW DX CW Contest signing NH0S as a
Multi-Single/High Power entry from the Saipan, Northern Marianas (OC-086).
QSL via JF2SKV either direct (Hisashi Matsushita, 14-1 Ugasemae Iwakura,
Toyota, 444-2225 Japan) or through the JARL Bureau. Before and after the
contest, between November 22-27th, they will operate on all bands (160-6
meters) and modes (SSB, CW, RTTY, PSK31 and FM) as NH0S (QSL via JF2SKV),
NH0V (QSL via JG3VEI), KH0/JE6MYI (QSL via JW6MYI), KH0/AD6VH (QSL via

PIRATE ACTIVITY
Mike, G4IUF, reports that a station signing 3A0FC is
saying that he is Mike, and is giving his callsign as QSL Manager. This
a pirate. Mike has never been to 3A, and does not know who this nut is or
why he is doing this.
QSL INFO AND NEWS
3B6RF QSLs. Steve, N3SL, reports that, "As of Thursday, August 30th,
North American cards are completely caught up, and new arrivals are
being turned around in 1 day. I put a batch of 280 more cards in the
mail Wednesday, representing all those that had built up while I awaited
more blanks, so people should see those within a week (because of the
holiday). These are the direct cards only, sent to my address, and do
not include any bureau cards which are being handled 100% by HB9AGH.
Those sent via WF5E's service are also now complete."
Bert, PA3GIO, reports that as of August 29th, all QSL for operations 5R8GY , FH/PA3GIO/p and /m and FR/PA3GIO/m are in the mail and in the Bureau.
BQ9P QSL Status. Steve, KU9C, reports: "All QSL cards that matched the logs are in the mail. However, there appears to have been a fair amount of SLIM BQ9P operators on the bands, which means that some cards do not match the logs. These requests are in the 'hospital' at the moment, requiring a more thorough check. I'm working through those as fast as I can, but it's a slow process."

The Kingman Reef Palmyra DX Association announces that all QSLs received DIRECT with SASE for K5K, KH6ND/KH5 and T32R have been answered. All QSLs now being received are answered the same day. Any station having a QSL problem with any of the above, send an E-mail inquiry to N4XP@juno.com , who will research the problem. DO NOT RESEND, ask first. Bureau QSLs will be answered in the near future but QSOs already marked as receiving a QSL will not be answered again through the bureau.
The Amateur Radio Society of MOLDOVA - ARM, was active this past week as ER10MD to celebrate the 10th anniversary of declaration of independence of Republic Moldova on August, 27, 1991. QSL Manager Jean Michel, F6AJA, informs OPDX and its readers that Camillo, HP1AC, contacted him by E-mail because he has collected some QSL cards for HP1XBI (Gerard, F2JD) from the HP QSL bureau. After an arrangment was made with Camillo, cards were sent to Jean. He received more than 300 cards (mostly from USA). Some 37 QSL cards clearly did not indicate/mark "VIA F6AJA" and unfortunately they arrived via the Panama bureau. Jean has processed the cards for the next batch to go out via the French QSL Bureau. He also states and reminds everyone, "Make sure you indicate clearly the QSL route when you send cards via the bureau it's NOT the work of the bureau to find the right route for your card."
OPDX has been informed that Pierre, HB9QQ, is saying that a single USD is no longer enough to pay for an airmail stamp from Europe. He said it costs almost 2 USDs to send airmail to the States.

Laci, HA0HW, informs OPDX that those who worked the Hungarian group which operated from Chrissi Island (EU-187) and Crete (EU-015) at the end of May and first weekend of June, the full color QSL cards have arrived from the printers. All direct QSLs for J49HW, J49HW/p, J49NG, J49NG/p and J49DX were or will be answered within a week.
Ed, PS7ZZ, that all QSL cards for the following operations are now

SAD NOTE:
Al Harbach, WA4DRU, recently became a SK in Houston, Wednesday,
August 15th. He was known by many as Mr. Heathkit after Heath shut their
doors. Al was also quite a prominent DXer, and many know him for his many
travels to the various islands, lately at VP5 and other places. He was a
long standing member of the North Florida DX Association. Also, Al had a
small business which provided many with Heathkit parts that kept our old
rigs going. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his wife Pat. Type in Al
Harbach in your search engine (google.com) and you will find all kinds

TG, GUATEMALA
Ramon, XE1KK, will be active as TG/XE1KK, September 6-9th,
from Guatemala City, Grid Locator EK35. Look for him mainly on satellite
UO-14 and AO-27. He will also try to be active on HF and 50 MHz as
schedule permits.
V63, MICRONESIA
Sho/JA7HMZ and Hisa/7L4IOU are planning a digital
DXpedition to Phonpei Island from September 28th to October 4th. Their
activity will be during the CQWW RTTY DX Contest, and they will enter as
a Multi-Op signing V63A instead of V63KA.
VK/VK9C/VK9L/VK9X, AUSTRALIA/COCOS-KEELING/LORD HOWE/CHRISTMASISLANDS
(The PA3GIO DXpedtions - Reminder/Update!). Bert, PA3GIO, plans to be
very active on the next two months. Most of his activity will be on SSB
only on 80/40/20/17/15/12/10 meters with 100W and doublet with open
feeder line. His planned schedule is as follows:
VK9X Christmas Island - Bert will be signing VK9XV from IOTA OC-002,
September 6-13th.
VK9C Cocos-Keeling Island - Bert will be signing VK9CQ from IOTA OC-003,
September 14-20th.
VK, Australia - Bert, will be signing VK6GIO between September 22nd
and October 8th (On route) but VERY LIMITED ACTIVITY.
VK/5, Kangaroo Island - Bert will sign VK6GIO/5 from IOTA OC-139,
September 30th through October 3rd. His equipment
will be a Kenwood TS-50S 100W, doublet with open
feeder line or Outbacker Perth.
VK9L, Lord Howe - Bert will be signing VK9LO from IOTA OC-004,

VP5, TURKS & CAICOS ISLANDS
Ed, WA3WSJ, will operate as VP5ED from
November 20-27th. He will be using his K2 transceiver (S/N 321). If you

WRTC2002 PRESS RELEASE #7 (U.S. teams & Team UK)
Ari, OH1EH, reports:
"The ten US team captains have chosen their partners. The WRTC2002
organizing committee is pleased with the enthuasism of the U.S contesting
community and wants to thank the leading U.S contest clubs for their
support in the selection process. We are also glad to be able to state
that the selections of the clubs were honored to the letter. The following
20 world class contesters will represent the U.S. in the WRTC2002 in
Finland. U.S."

XV, VIETNAM
Sam, JA1EUI, is going to Danan, Vietnam, from September
21-28th. He expects to operate on all bands from 80-6 meters on mainly
SSB. Sam hopes his callsign will be XV3Z or XV3ZZ. He will have a regular
schedule on 21230 kHz at 2130z every day with JA1TAA or JA1BQ. QSL via
home callsign: Satoru Matushima: 2469-5 Toda, Atugi, 243-0023 JAPAN.
YM, TURKEY
Look for Mill, LX1CC, to be active September 16th to October
6th, signing YM3CC. His operation will be mailnly on SSB on all bands,
including the WARC bands. QSLs are via his home call (LX1CC).
ZC4, U.K. SOV. BASES AREAS ON CYPRUS
Steve, ZC4BS, is expected to be
active for the next 13 months. His activity will be on all modes from
160-10 meters, but most of his activity will be mainly on 15/20 meters.
ZL7, CHATHAM ISLANDS
Nigel (ZL7/G3TXF) and Roger (ZL7/G3SXW) are expected
to be active from Chatham Islands, on CW only, from September 13-23rd.
Their suggested frequencies are: 3503, 7003, 10103, 14023, 18073, 21023,
24893 and 28023 kHz listening up 1-3 kHz. They will use two TS570's and
amplifiers with three verticals. QSL via their home callsigns, direct or
via the bureau. Bureau replies can be requested from:
