don'Taher, 3B8DB, was active this past weekend on 12 meters
CW. Watch between 24894 and 24900 kHz between 0900 and 1400z.
4W, EAST TIMOR
Thor, 4W6MM, was heard this past weekend with very few
takers on 20 meters CW. Watch 14002 kHz as early as 0545z and as late as
1430z. He was also heard around 7025 kHz at 1030z and also at 1130z. There
was one QSN on 10 and 15 meters this week. Check 28490 kHz at 0215z and
21003 kHz at 0445z.
E4, PALESTINE
Gunter, E4/OE1GZA, was heard this past weekend on 21287
kHz between 1145 and 1330z. QSL via Gunter Zwickl, BOX 1133, Ramalah,
Palestine.
DX VIDEOS
VK0IR HEARD ISLAND - "Outpost at the Edge" (Editorial by KB8NW)
This broadcast television documentary is a must for any DXer who
collects DXpedition videos. James Brooks, 9V1YC, who has written
and filmed the video, provides 50 minutes of interesting facts and
history of this isolated island. The video not only contains footage
of the famous, very expensive VK0IR DXpedition, but also rare film
on the first expedition to the island. You will learn about the history
of the island from the early 19th century American sealing industry
through the Austrialian occupation in the 1950s. If you enjoyed James's

Dennis, K7BV, introduced his "Fernando de Noronha - PV0F - CQ WPX 2001" video at the Ham Radio 2001 Convention in Friedrichshafen, Germany, last weekend. A World High Power 3rd place finish is claimed for his operation. The professionally produced video is 14 minutes long and features an entertaining tour of the island, its history and the QTH of its most famous occupant, Andre, PY0FF. IARU 2001 ANNOUNCED HQ OPERATIONS
Bill, NG3K, has created a listing of
HQ and official stations announced for the forthcoming 2001 IARU Contest
(July 14-15th) and can be found on the Web at:
IOTA NEWS
AS-041. Eiji/JQ1SUO and JH4WXV will be active from Oki Island between
August 11-14th, as JQ1SUO/4 and JH4WXV/4. Activity will be
on 160-10 meters CW/SSB. QSL via their home callsigns via
the CBA.
EU-091. The Salento DX Team will be on the air from Grande Island (I.I.A. LE-002) during the IOTA Contest. Callsign is not known. Operators will draw lots for the uses of callsign/p. QSL via IK7JWX or via CBA.
EU-170. A Hungarian team will operate from the Croatian Island of Pasman from July 21-30th. The members of the team are: Zsolt/HA6PS, Tibor/HA6ZV and Laci/HA6NL. Their callsigns will be 9A/homecall/p on all HF-bands. They are going to be active on 2m and 70cm from the JN73 grid square. They plan to participate in the IOTA Contest. QSL should be sent to their respective home callsigns and will be answered the same way as received.
EU-177. Kjell, SM4DDS, will be active as 8S4C/5 from Stora Alo, July 9-14th. His activity will be on CW and SSB. QSL via bureau is OK and direct QSLs via his home callsign SM4DDS: Kjell Bonerfalt, Oskarsvagen 4B, S-702 14 Orebro, SWEDEN.
NA-141. Joe/W4SAA and Dick/N4RP will operate a 100w CW DXpedition station from Virginia Key, FL, for the IOTA Contest, July 28-29th. Antenna improvements have been made over last year's operation. QSL cards are printed. Pleasse QSL via the new address: Joe Hornbach, W4SAA, 13691 NE 25 AVE, North Miami Beach, FL 33181-3502 USA (SASE PSE).
SA-055. Operators LU1BCE, LU3DW, LU7AWP and LU7DW will activate the Island of Martin Garcia as L80AA/D during the IOTA Contest. There will be activity outside the contest, and it will be mostly on SSB and on the WARC bands. They hope to be able to have a 160m dipole up, even if conditions in July may not be so good for that band.

J7, DOMINICA
George, K5KG, will be active as J75KG from IOTA NA-101
from July 7-17th. He will operate 160-10 meters, with a concentration
on CW, WARC and the low bands. He will also operate in the IARU Contest
as a mixed mode. QSL via KU9C.
KH0, MARIANA ISLANDS
Keiko/JJ1CRV and Kaz/JH1ORA will be on vacation
here from July 13-16th and will be active as KI8CT/KH0 (JJ1CRV) and
KD1OS/KH0 (JH1ORA). Activity will be on CW/SSB on 40/20/15/10/6 meters
(possibly 160 and 80 meters) and the WARC bands. QSL via the JARL Bureau
to their home callsigns or direct to JJ1CRV. ADDED NOTE: KD1OS/KH0 will
participate in the IARU HF Championship.
LY0, LITHUANIA
Look for LY0HQ activity in the IARU Contest 2001 by
the HQ station from Lithuania. QSL via LY1DR: Saulius Zalnerauskas,

MUSEUM SHIP SPECIAL EVENT WEEKEND
will be held beginning 0001z July 21st
until 2359z July 22nd and is sponsored by the USS Salem Radio Club,
K1USN, Quincy. MA. U.S.A. During the "Museum Ship Special Event" you will
be able to work warships, submarines, lightships and various motor vessels
from WWII (earlier USA, Russian, German U Boats, British and much more).
By working these ships you will be able to collect unique QSL cards which
have their histories going back almost 100 years!! A certificate is usually
available from the sponsors of these ships. See the USS Salem Web page for

QSL INFO AND NEWS
D68C QSL STATUS. Don, G3XTT (D68C publicity officer), reports that
the D68C QSLing is now well underway. Many cards have already gone out,
and a large batch for U.S. hams will be mailed very soon. Of course,
with the biggest DXpedition of all time, it will take several weeks to
catch up with the cards already on hand. Once those are out the way,
it should be possible to deal with any new incoming cards pretty quickly.
He requests to PLEASE NOT E-mail Phil, G3SWH, about your cards as
answering E-mails simply takes him away from the QSLing task! Don
states, "We would, of course, have wanted to get cards out even earlier,
but with so many sponsors who, naturally, looked for proper recognition
on the card, we needed time to run the design past them before we went
to print. And simply printing something like 80,000 cards (in Germany)
and getting them shipped to the UK took time too. But when you see the
cards, I'm sure you will all be delighted."
Wendell, K4JZ, reports that the QSL cards for the Poor Boy DXpedition, FP/K4JZ, June 15-18th, will be replied to as soon as he receives the cards from the printer (In approx. three weeks).
Dr. Rick, NE8Z, was active this past week as WW8DX/8 from Rattlesnake Island, Michigan, which has been known to be infested at times with poisonous Eastern Massassagua Rattlesnakes. NOT THE QSL MANAGER! Igor Zeldin, UR5LCV, President of UARL, informs OPDX that he is not or has never been the QSL Manager for RU9CI. He continues to receive direct request from many U.S. stations.
Frank, VE7DP, informs OPDX that QSL cards for the February 2001 IOTA
operations from the Philippines have arrived from the printer. The
processing of direct requests has already begun, and the first batch
will be in the mail this week. It may take him about 4 weeks to clean
up the backlog. Bureau cards will be sent out later to every station
in the log. It is not necessary to send him cards via Bureau!! The QSO
totals are as following:

He mentions that the documentation to have the operations accredited
is on its way to G3KMA. Some cards are arriving also for 4G1A, but
Frank is NOT the QSL Manager. Cards for the 4G1A contest station should
be sent direct to 4G1A/DX1CW.
The YV5/NE8Z QSLs for the IOTA SA-035 operation from Islas Los Roques have been printed and direct requests will be sent out on or about July 25th.
SPECIAL EVENT
Look for special station HG8SDS to be active only once a
year between August 14-21th, in Veszto-Magor to celebrate "Sarret Days"
(HG8 Sarret DayS). A contact with this station is good towards the "Sarret
Award" (10 points). Activity will be on 80-10 meters CW and SSB. For more

SPECIAL EVENT
Gene, UA9AB, President of the Troisk Amateur Radio Club,
reports that the TARC will celebrate its 30th anniversary on July 23rd.
During their celebration, they will be active using the special callsigns
UE9ATC and UE9ATC/P from July 20-27th. A special colored QSL card will be
issued for contacts during this period. Also, any station that makes contact
with 3 members of the club during this period will receive a Special Award.
T8, PALAU
Hideki, JE8BKW, will be active as T88BB from the evening of
July 8th through the morning of July 11th. Look for Hideki on 80-6 meters,
SSB and CW. QSL via the JARL bureau or direct to his new address at:

TG, GUATEMALA
A Spanish team consisting of EA1QF, EA3CUU, EA4BT, EA4KA,
EA7AAW, EA7JB, EB1ADG and EB4EE will be in Guatemala from September
17-26th, installing a digital radio emergency network as was done in
El Salvador and Honduras in past years. At the same time, a HF operations
will take place on all bands from 160-6 meters on SSB, CW and RTTY with
special emphasis on CW and the WARC bands. They have requested the
callsign TG0R, but the final approval from the Guatemala PTT is still
pending. All the activities will be done jointly with the Club de
Radioaficionados de Guatemala (CRAG). QSL via EA4URE.
TI9, COCOS ISLAND
Andy, YS1AG/G5AYU, informs OPDX that there is an active
station on Cocos Island, and the operator is Hugo, TI2HFM/TI9. He is a
gamekeeper/forester there working for the Costa Rica Parks administration.
He is usually heard on weekends, around 0300z somewhere near 7070 kHz
ragchewing with TI5ECC (YL) and TI3GBP, who is due to join him by the
end of this month. They will also take a radio along so there will be
two TI9 stations on the air. They are not DXers, but like to ragchew
in Spanish on 40 meters (it is better than no activity at all).
VP8, SOUTH GEORGIA ISLAND (possibly South Orkney Island also!)
OPDX received an E-mail this week from Mike Gloistein, GM0HCQ, who was
active from South Georgia Island as VP8SGK for a few days during the end
of March and the beginning of April. To start, Mike informed OPDX that
the address we had listed in OPDX.505 was wrong (Sorry!). The correct
address is: Mike Gloistein, 27 Stormont Way, Scone, PH2 6SP, Scotland.
He also reported to OPDX that he will be going back to South Georgia
sometime in late November or early December. He will be active onboard
the Royal Research Ship Ernest Shackleton beginning about October 10th.
He will be changing his callsign to VP8CMH/MM once in the Falkland Islands
and the Antarctic waters. There is a slim chance that he may even be able
to operate from Signy Island this time around, but he won't know for sure
until he gets there. Mike hopes to post the ships itinerary on his Web

WORLD LIGHTHOUSE ACTIVITY
WLH-NEW
WLH-0074. Mario, DL5ME, states that he will be active as LA/DL5ME from
the lighthouse on the Island of Runde (Soroyane -IOTA EU-079,
WLH-0074), July 14-16th. He will also be active from a new
lighthouse on the Island of Vigre (Nordoyane - IOTA EU-056),
July 19-21st. He will use a log-periodic and 500 watts.
During the IARU Contest, look for him on 17 meters (during
the NA window). QSL via homecall direct (the fast way, 2-3
months) or the bureau (the slow way, 1-2 to 5 years).
LH-0978. Masafumi, JA6GXK, will activate the Japanese lighthouse on Me Shima Island (AS-056) over the next few months. Look for him on the following dates: July 13-24th, August 14-24th and October 5-16th. Activity will be on 40 meters, 14260 and 21260 kHz.
