2019 IDXC NEWS (Pre-Registration Ends March 31, 2019). John/K6MM and
Rich/KE1B, IDXC 2019 Co-Chairmen, report [edited]:
The 70th meeting of IDXC will be held from April 12-14th, 2019, at the
beautiful Convention Center in downtown Visalia, CA.
Pre-Registration -- You can still pre-register online but time is
running short. Pre-Registration Ends On Sunday, March 31st, 2019 at
2400 UTC = 5:00 PM PDT. If you register online within the next 9 days
you will be eligible for a special pre-registration raffle prize.
Raffle Tickets -- We are offering advance raffle ticket sales by phone
order. Raffle tickets are sold in books of twenty (20) tickets, for
20 USDs per book. Advance purchasers by phone will receive a bonus of
four (4) additional tickets for each book purchased, for a total of
twenty-four (24) tickets for 20 USDs. To order by phone, call Rich

3Y0I BOUVET DXPEDITION NEWS (They are on their way!!). If you missed
special bulletin OPDX.1406.1, the 3Y0I team is now on their way to Bouvet
Island aboard the "Atlantic Tuna". They left Cape Town, South Africa, on
March 19th, at approx. 0600 UTC. As this was being written, The 3Y0I team
is over halfway there. Look for them to sign E51DOM/mm on their way
there and back from the island. They are expected to travel to Bouvet in
about 7 days, possibly around March 26th, late local time. Their landing
on the island will be "strictly dependent on weather conditions" upon
their arrival. So, their estimated date, as 3Y0I, on the air might be
about the last few days of March. REMEMBER, this is subject to change
due to sea and weather conditions safety first! The 3Y0I team plans
to stay on the island for at least 2 weeks, with an option to extend the
stay to 3-4 weeks, if weather and other factors permit.
On March 21st, Stan Strzyzewski, SP8S, posted a very large press release
(listed as Press Release #1 and titled "Welcome Roaring Forties!"), which
contains a brief satellite conversation with Dom, 3Z9DX, the 3Y0I leader.
It details the sea conditions that the 3Y0I team is currently enduring,
a brief description about the planning of this operation over the last
three months, and the weather and the team's planning for a safe landing

4L, GEORGIA. Luc, F5RAV, will be active as 4L/F5RAV from Sergo's, 4L6QC,
station near Batumi, Georgia, [or possibly be 4L0GF from Zeda Tkhilnari]
during the CQWW WPX SSB Contest (March 30-31st). , March 26-April 2. QSL

5R, MADAGASCAR. Giovanni, IZ2DPX, will be active as 5R8PX from Nosy Be
Island (AF-057), Madagascar, between, August 3-17th. Activity will be
on various HF bands using SSB and the Digital modes. Equipment is an
IC-706 (w/100w) into a vertical. QSL via IK2DUW/HE9ERA, direct, by the

6O, SOMALIA (Update). Ali, EP3CQ, who went QRT on March 23rd, will once
again be active as 6O1OO starting April 15th, for one month. Activity
will be limited to his spare time because he works for the UN Department
of Safety and Security (UNDSS), in Mogadishu. Operations will be on
80/40/30/20/17/15/10 meters (mostly on 40/20meters FT8) using SSB and
FT8. Last time he suggested that he will be on everyday between 1800-
2000 East Africa Time (EAT) and on the weekend (Friday and Saturday)
between 1400-1800. Equipment is a Yaesu 857D into a Tarheel Little II
(currently active), and Sandpiper MV-10. He informed OPDX that he has
updated his information including new QSL information on QRZ.com. QSL

9G, GHANA. Matteo, IZ4YGS, will once again be active as 9G5GS from Sanzule,
West Takoradi (Western Region), Ghana, starting April 13th. The length of
his stay is not known. Matt informed OPDX back in December that he travels
to Ghana almost every month for work reasons. He states that he is on
"almost every evening on 20/30/40/60/80m; Setup FT-891 and vertical antenna,
mainly FT8 and other digital modes, if propagation helps also SSB." On FT8
(Fox-Hound Mode) the suggested frequencies are: 3567, 7056, 10131 and
14090 kHz. QSL via IZ4YGS, direct or eQSL.
A3, TONGA (Update). Heli, DD0VR, (along with XYL Bigi, DE3BWR) will be
active as A35JY from Tonga between September 16-21st. Activity will
probably be on various HF bands (160-6m). QSL via his home callsign,
direct or by the Bureau.
A3, TONGA (Update/Callsign Change). Operators David/VK3BDX, Grant/VK5GR
and Oly/VK5XDX will be active as A35JT (not A35AG as first announced)
from Tonga between September 22nd and October 7th. Activity will be
holiday style on 160-10 meters and will include entries in the CQWW DX
RTTY Contest (September 28-29th) and Oceania DX SSB Contest (October
5-6th). The team also mentioned this past week: "We have also confirmed
that we are not able to operate on 60m this trip. We have, however, been
granted access to 6m to conduct our EME experiments!" For more details

AMSAT RARE GRIDS. Alex, N7AGF, will make his semi-annual rover trip to
activate rare and somewhat rare grids between April 29th and May 4th or
5th (or longer depending on how things go). He will fly into Minneapolis
and drive back to his home grid CN88, activating as many ENx8, ENx7,
DNx8 and DNx7 grids as possible along the route. He hopes to hit as many
corners and lines. Activity will be on both linear and FM birds. As
always, activations and route details will be posted on his Twitter
page @N7AGF at (https://twitter.com/N7AGF). Alex will also be on APRS at
(https://aprs.fi/N7AGF-10). In areas of limited cell service, he will be
using inReach.
BW, TAIWAN. Koji, JL3RDC, will once again be active as BW/JL3RDC from
New Taipei City during the CQWW WPX SSB Contest (March 30-31st) as a
Single-Op/Single-Band (??m) entry. QSL via JL3RDC.
CY0C SABLE ISLAND DXPEDITION (Update). Randy, N0TG, sent out the following
press release on March 23rd [edited]: PERMISSION FOR A DXPEDITION HAS BEEN
AUTHORIZED FOR FALL OF 2020. TEAM LEADER - WA4DAN. Some time ago, we had
scheduled fall of 2019 for Sable. Due to circumstances we had to reschedule
to 2020. Hopefully this will be better for propagation. The permit process
took over a year of emailing, phone calls, and furnishing documents. Sable
at this point is no longer easily "permitted" for Ham Radio DXpeditions,
as the policies have changed with the change in administration. In fact
our permit finally was graciously authorized as a "one time special use
permit". We believe that it is very probable that permits in the future
may be essentially "nil" for a very long time. Among other policies,
visitors to the island are not permitted overnight stays. Thankfully, we
have been authorized to stay there for 7 - 8 days ($300 per person per
day). We are grateful and excited and look forward to meeting the challenge
of a sizeable operation as if it were the last one for a very long time.
The team for the upcoming CY9C St. Paul Island August Dxpedition will
be the primary makeup of the Sable team. A "SABLE" information page will

E5, NORTH AND SOUTH COOK ISLANDS (Reminder). By the time you read this,
operators Dagmar/DM7PQ, and Rainer/DL1AUZ will be active as E51NPQ and
E51AUZ, respectively, from Manihiki Island (OC-014), North Cook Islands
until March 25th. Next activity will be from the following scheduled
islands:
March 27-31st -- Aitutaki Island (OC-083), South Cook Islands
April 2-11th -- Rarotonga Island (OC-013), South Cook Islands

E6, NIUE (Update). The DX-World.net reports that Alex, 5B4ALX, met Tim,
NL8F, last week at the Auckland airport, and he will join Alex during his
E6ET operation from Niue Island (OC-040) through April 2nd. Activity will
be on 160/60/40/30/20/17/15/10/6 meters using CW, SSB, RTTY and FT8.
Suggested frequencies are in OPDX.1405. Remember, Alex will also be in
the CQWW WPX SSB Contest (March 30-31st), but as a SO2R entry. Tim will

EM75, UKRAINE (Special Event). Look for special event station, EM75FA,
to be active between April 6-14th. Activity is to commemorate the 75th
anniversary of the liberation of city Odesa from the Nazi invaders during
World War II (10th of April, 1944). Operations will be from Odesa and
Odes'ka oblast. QSL via UT7FA. A free electronic award is available. For

GB0, ENGLAND (Special Event). To celebrate Maritime Radio Day 2019, look
for special event stations GB0GKA (operated by Tony, G3ZRJ) and GB0GKB
(operated by Larry, G4HLN) to be active between 1200z, April 14th and
2200z, April 15th. The stations are representing Portishead Radio/GKA,
the UK's long-range maritime radio station which closed in 2000. Activity
will be mainly CW on various HF bands. Other coast radio stations (DAN,
PCH, WCC, IAR and quite a few others) will also be represented. QSL GB0GKA

GU, GUERNSEY. Oleg, RL5D, will be active as MU2K during the CQWW WPX SSB

EU-008. Operators Steve/2E0EFP, Glen/G0SBN, Chris/GM3WOJ, Graham/M0GAE,

will be active as GS0NWM from Mull Island (WAB NM73) between
May 17-24th. Activity will be on 80-10 meters using CW, SSB

EU-065. Operators Christophe/F4ELI, Andy/F4ELK, Stef/F5UOW, Derek/F5VCR,
Dick/F6DXE and Jean/ON7ZM will be active as TM5BZH from Ouessant
Island (DIFM AT-001, WLOTA LH-0208) between May 25th and June

EU-120. Fred, ON6QR, will be active as M/ON6QR from Wight Island during
the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 27-28th) as a Single-OP/DXpedition

PS50, BRAZIL (Special Event). Orlando, PT2OP, is currently active as
PS50Y celebrating his 50th year as a ham radio operator. Throughout the
year 2019 he will use special/different callsigns each month of the year.
In January, he signed PQ50Y and in February he signed PR50Y. Look for
him to sign PT50Y in April, and in the coming months he will announce
another different callsigns. In addition to his commemorative QSL cards,
Orlando in January 2020, he will send a diploma (via email) to all amateurs
who worked at least 6 different callsigns during 2019.

V3, BELIZE. Rich, K8NDS, is once again active as V31RF from Placencia
until April 19th. Activity will be on 40/20/17 meters using SSB only,
mostly on 40 meters. QSL via K8NDS or eQSL.
V3, BELIZE. Victor, WB0TEV, will once again be active as V31VP from Blackman
Eddy between March 28th and April 2nd. Activity will be on 160-10 meters
using CW, SSB, RTTY and FT8. Focus will be on 160m/80m FT8 between 0000-
0700z. Victor will also be in the CQWW WPX SSB Contest (March 30-31st) as
a Single-Op/All-Band/Assisted/High-Power entry. QSL V31VP via ClubLog's
OQRS or WB0TEV direct or by the Bureau.
VI9N, NORFOLK ISLAND (Update). Operators Chris/VK3QB, Luke/VK3HJ, Pat-
rick/VK2PN and David/VK3BDX will be active as VI9NI from Norfolk Island
(OC-005) between April 1-14th. VI9NI is being activated to celebrate the
40th anniversary of the signing of the Norfolk Island Act. Their main focus
will be on low bands using CW and FT8, but will also be active on various
HF bands (160-17m) on SSB. The team plans to include some SOTA activation
from "Mt. Bates" and "Jacky Jacky" summits. QSL via VK4FW, direct or by
the VK4 Bureau. Look for more details to be forthcoming such as Clublog
and FaceBook info.
VK9N, NORFOLK ISLAND. Rob, VK2FBBB, will once again be active as VK2FBBB/VK9
from Norfolk Island (OC-005) between April 14-27th. Activity is usually
and mainly on 40 meters, with an occasional 80 meters operations after
6 pm (local time) each night. QSL via VK2 Bureau.
VP9, BERMUDA. Operators Brian/KG8CO, Frank/W8KA, Jim/KB8TXZ, Lee/N8LJ
and Stan/AC8W will active as homecall/VP9 from Bermuda between March
28th and April 2nd. Activity will be on CW, SSB and FT8. They will also
be an entry in the CQWW WPX SSB Contest (March 30-31st) signing VP9I as
a Multi-2 entry. QSL VP9I via LoTW. QSL all others via LoTW, EQSL or for
paper QSL's via operators' instructions.
XT2, BURKINA FASO. Harald, DF2WO, will once again be active as XT2AW from
Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, between April 7-26th. Activity is usually
holiday style on 160-10 meters using CW, SSB and the Digital modes. He
states that he works mostly on the Digital modes (FT8, PSK31, JT65 and
RTTY) and slow CW. QSL via M0OXO, direct or OQRS
