NOTE FROM EDITOR (Update)
As you can see, this bulletin is for the weeks of June 25th and July 3rd. The latest update on my father-in-law, Edward Shutty Sr., is that he passed away late Monday night. The family (with grand-kids) gathered Monday afternoon to say their good-byes. My wife Linda, her mom Delores, her brother Ed and his wife Prudence, and myself stayed Monday night for his passing at 8:57 pm. He is now in a better place with our Lord. The family wants to thank the many thoughts and prayers that were sent via E-mail. He will be laid to rest on Friday, June 30th. Here is a picture of him with my grand-kids:

13 COLONIES (Special Event). Once again the annual (the 9th) "13 Colonies
Special Event" will take place between 1300z, July 1st and 0400z July 7th.
The certificate is printed on heavy card stock. Stations working one state
or, as many as all 15, will be eligible for the certificate. A "Clean Sweep"
indicator will be affixed for those lucky enough to "Q" all 15. A special
endorsement will be attached for stations contacting their sister oper-
ation, WM3PEN, in Philadelphia, PA, where independence was declared. New
since 2015, the 13 Colonies have added a second sister event station.
GB13COL will operate from Durham, England. The 13 Colonies certificate
will have a Liberty Bell added for a contact with WM3PEN. They will also
offer a special QSL card printed just for this event. There should be at
least two stations from each on the 13 colonies on the air, as well as
Super contest stations, multi-operator Club stations and OM and XYL teams.
The U.S. original 13 colonies are CT-DE- GA-MA-MD-NC-NH-NJ-NY-PA-RI-SC-VA.
Special events stations mentioned are: K2A (NY), K2B (VA), K2C (RI),

the WARC bands, with the exception of 60 meters. 2 meters and 6 meter
simplex are encouraged. All modes of operation should be represented -
SSB, CW, RTTY, Digital, and the Satellites. The mode of operation is up
to the individual colony state station. For more details on the stations,
suggested frequencies, QSL info and on how to obtain the special
certificate, see: http://www.13colonies.info

3Y0Z BOUVET DXPEDITION (Press Release #6, dated June 27th). In consul-
tation with our new transportation partner Aerovias DAP, we continue to
refine our plans for our Bouvet DXpedition. We expect to depart from King
George Island, in the South Shetlands Islands on January 13, 2018. Our
transit time to Bouvet will be between 9 and 11 days depending on weather
and the sea state.
Upon arrival at Bouvet we will conduct reconnaissance flights to the
island and select a campsite free of crevasses. As weather permits we
will begin building our radio city on the ice and secure our infra-
structure. Then antennas will go up, our equipment will be assembled
and we will begin non-stop operations. We are planning to be at Bouvet
for 21 days, and depending on weather and other factors we hope to be
on the air for 14-16 days. Then we will return to either King George
Island or Punta Arenas, Chile. All in all, we will be away from civil-
ization for 6-7 weeks.
Final preparations continue this summer, and we still have a lot to do:
 * Equipment will be tested under simulated harsh conditions at the QTH
    of K9CT.
 * Antennas will be assembled, tested and packed for transit at the QTH
   of WB9Z.
 * The Sea Container will be packed and shipped from Atlanta the first
   week of October.
A team meeting will be held in Atlanta on Sept. 7-10. Topics to be
discussed will include:
    Safety
    Helicopter operations
    Site selection
Shelter erection and quick deploy plans
    Weather
    Escape plans and rescue
    Medical considerations
    EME set-up and testing
Familiarization and operation of Flex Radios and Amplifiers
    Propagation and our strategy
    Operator scheduling
    And....more.
Our fund-raising continues. We are pleased with our progress toward
our goal of 740,500 USDs. The team has committed 400,000 USDs cash as
well as paying for their own transportation, food and hotel expenses.
DX Clubs have stepped up and some have added additional contributions
as have many individual DXers. However, we are still about 200,000 USDs
short. Please help if you can. We have a large payment due for the vessel
and helicopters in several months.
Please check our website at periodically for
updates and additions as we progress toward departure. You can also join
our Facebook group .

OF100, FINLAND (Press Release by OH2BH). "FINLAND's 100 - YEARS ONE
HAPPY COUNTRY -- OF100HQ IN THE IARU RADIOSPORT, JULY 08-09, 2017 --
The callsign OF100HQ will be rather complex, but so was the route Finland
traveled to reach this 100-year milestone. Finland has been under Swedish
and Russian rule, and has had to fight her way to her own destiny of freedom
in securing her identity during the WWII.
She succeeded well, and now has built her way to the modern and happy
society by scoring 5th in the World’s Happiness Report, surpassing her
historical masters Sweden 10th, Russia 34th.
Now this happy bunch will bring their heavy artillery to Amateur Radio
by activating all 12 band-slots in the IARU Radiosport contest with stations
from their eastern front (OH5Z) to their western front (OH1F), up to the
Santa Arctic, (OH8X) and everything in between.
Operators include many that you keep working even outside of this parade:
4O3A, 9A5K, K9MA, Z61DX, OG9X, OH0XX, OH1HS, OH1MM, OH1NOA, OH1RX, OH1TM,
OH2BCI, OH2BH, OH2MM, OH2PM, OH5CZ, OH5NQ, OH5TS, OH5WH, OH6KZP, OH6MW,
OH6NVC, OH6XX; the group is led by Santa Claus, OF9X.
The first one-hundred (100) stations capturing the highest number of the
twelve available band slots, will be awarded the “Happy Finland 100 Award”.

REALTIME BAND CONDITIONS WEB SITE :
The purpose of this experimental Web site is to provide 24-7-365 actual
(REALTIME) band condition information to CW QRPp, QRPe and CW/SSB for
Contesters interested in increasing their scores. It can also be of
benefit to other Radio Amateurs to determine band conditions for Nets
and casual QSO's. This information is NOT based on any software pre-
dictions or any kind of satellite based readings. It is based on a
new Ionospheric sounding method called "HF Ionospheric Interferometry"
which operates very similarly to the PolSAR system used by NASA.

  LOGS AND QSLS RECOVERED (7Q7BP, 7Q7FOC, C91MR, C93MR, C96MR, C97MR,
  5X1P, 9Q5MRC, 9U5MRC, G3MRC, VK8CP and Z38/G3MRC). QSL Manager Phil
Whitchurch, G3SWH, reports the following [edited]: Joe, G3MRC, became
a Silent Key (SK) in early May 2017, and I am pleased to announce that
I have obtained from Joe's widow copies of the logs and a quantity of
blank cards for each of the above callsigns.
The logs had all been previously uploaded to LoTW by Joe, but have
now also been uploaded to , where there are log search
  facilities for each call.
Joe's RSGB membership lapsed at the time of his passing. Therefore,
I am unable to process or respond to any bureau QSL requests what-so-
ever as the RSGB QSL Bureau will not forward outgoing cards for non-
members. Consequently, paper QSLs for this station are *ONLY* available
DIRECT with adequate return or via the OQRS facility at .
There is further information on my web site.

QSL MANAGER CHANGES. Pedro, EA5GL, informs OPDX that he will be the QSL
Manager for the 4G1L Palawan Island (OC-128) operation and not Gil,
4F2KWT, as reported in the beginning. He also mentions that he took
command as the DX0K (Spratly Islands) QSL Manager chores which took
place in 2005. If there is still someone who needs this QSL confirmation
for this activation, they can send it to him.
