DX MEETING IN ROME & HV0A IN THE SPOTLIGHT OCTOBER 10-11th (News release
from the Eternal City - Vatican City, Rome) [edited]
Saturday, October
3rd, 2015 -- Francesco/IK0FVC, Martti/OH2BH and Giordano/IK0XFD, President
of the Rome branch of Associazione Radioamatori Italiani (ARI), are
organizing a DX summit in the Eternal City, Rome. The historically rich
surroundings help to spotlight several timely issues on the way to the
first DX University session to be organized in Italy.
During this event, HV0A is to be activated on several bands, as high as permitted by the Solar Flux. The activity will begin on Saturday, October 10th, at 1400 UTC and finish with a dinner party at 1800 UTC featuring a talk given by Martti, OH2BH. Further HV0A activity will follow the next day, October 11th.
Martti's presentation will highlight the challenges faced in making DXpedition traffic run smoothly, with both ends contributing to a good result. The gathering will focus on areas of improvement which are of interest to DXers and DXpedition operators alike. These areas include a DX University paper tentatively entitled “How To Work Everything With No Pain Even Europe.” The paper is scheduled to be released shortly. The centerpiece of the summit is the unveiling of a new Q-Code.
The TX3X DXpedition currently underway will be used as a case study and part of the Italian DX summit.
HV0A QSLs, as usual, via IK0FVC and also LoTW.

IOTA NEWS
AF-119. (S79C Press Release #3) During early July, plans started to
firm up for a DXpedition to Coetivy Island AF-119NEW. Such was
the interest in this project, our experienced team was in place
within moments of invitations going out to join this exciting
island activation.
In little more than 6 weeks from now, the S79C team will be on air from the South Indian Ocean looking to work as many uniques as possible. Planning and logistics are now complete and we're confident of giving out this new IOTA group to many. We are deeply encouraged by the level of support, both individ- ually and through organizations who realize this IOTA activity is not a holiday style operation, but rather to a remote destination hundreds of miles from anywhere. Our aim is to work all corners of the globe using a combination of verticals and hexbeams placed near the waters edge. This November time-frame was chosen to max- imize propagation paths to all geographical areas. We want your QSO!
Our most difficult path from this Brand New IOTA group is to West Coast North America. Special attention will be given to this area as we realize that even regular S7 is still much needed - # 53 most wanted DXCC in fact! We are puzzled however, that to date, all groups and organizations contacted from this area have all refused our funding requests. Nonetheless, we will focus on this tricky path during peak propagation times. Let's remember the 'forgotten West Coast'.
Such is the extreme expense of activating this brand new IOTA, we appreciate every single donation being made. We urge those considering to donate to please do so before, during or after our DXpedition. Remember, advance donors will be rewarded with a free QSL ( see http://af119new.com/donate/ )
Just before we leave our homes in mid-November we will issue
a last minute update. In addition, twitter @af119 will be in use
as we journey to Coetivy island. Please see http://af119new.com
for latest information.
Thank you, Team S79C
AS-128. Operators Kunio/JA8VE and Hiro/JF1OCQ will be active as 3W4VE and 3W4VX, respectively, from Phu Qoc Island between November 4-11th. Activity will be holiday style on 160-6 meters using CW, SSB and RTTY. QSL via their home callsigns.
NP2, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS
Yuriy, N2TTA, will once again be active from
here as NP2P during the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 24-25th) as a Single-

"I took QSL cards for DXCC updates for myself and others to W9DXCC. I think two weeks total turn around is great! I am very happy that the DXCC desk is not backlogged!
I heard similar turn-around times from some Wisconsin hams who had cards checked in Milwaukee over the summer.
Similarly, I took some QSLs for 5BWAZ and a single band WAZ to W9DXCC and they were all processed and double checked, including a mailed sub- mittal to John Bergman, KC5LK, the new WAZ administrator, in 2-1/2 weeks as well. It is nice to know that awards managers are 'on the ball'."

(Update #8, dated October 4th)[edited]. The wind continues to blow. If you imagine being in a wind tunnel with a wind speed between 20 - 30 knots, and occasional stronger gusts you'll understand the challenges. Wind and tent noise makes it difficult to hear, even with cans, so we apologize for repeats. Sleeping is difficult because the tents are shaking. The pile-ups are energetic and orderly, THANK YOU. The team continues to be in good spirits and dealing with the situation as you would expect.V3, BELIZESafety is a priority - we're being overly cautious when it comes to taking chances with antennas. Today we installed the 2 SteppIR beams and tried to install the Battle Creek Special but the winds were too strong to complete the installation, The SteppIR are withstanding the wind and working well.
The tents are holding up well, the very deep sand requires us to pay constant attention to all guy wires and ground stakes.Placing 50 pound (22 kg) sand bags at the most critical guy points has helped immensely. Because of the rough seas the skipper will bring supplies to the island 2 times per day until the sea calms down. We are hoping for a break in the weather in 24 hours. Being on a tropical island you may not think about it being cold, but tonight it is cooling down and we're all wearing layers and jackets, however there has been very little rain.
The bands are in good condition, with excellent runs to all geography, we've had excellent openings and hope propagation continues to be favorable.

Oliver, W6NV, will
activate these two islands again between October and December. He should
be on St. Helena (ZD7) (AF-022) between October 15th and November 2nd,
and will be active as ZD7W. The primary purpose is to enjoy the Island
and revisit some of Napoleon's history. The Island is celebrating the
bi-centennial year of Napoleon's exile, and the residents are anticipating
completion of an airport in 2016. See Web pages
