7Q, MALAWI (Update/Postponed)
Roger, ZS6RJ, and members of the Black
Mamba Contest & DXpedition Team, have informed OPDX the following [edited]:
Due to work commitments, the team has changed the original timing of the 7QAA DXpedition from November 2014 to the following fixed dates in March 2015:8P, BARBADOS
10 member CW team active between March 11-21st
10 member SSB/RTTY team active between March 22nd-April 1st
Each team will operate 4 stations on the air together. Equipment will be 2x Elecraft K3's, 2x Kenwood TS-590's and 4x Expert 1K or 1.3K FA linear amplifiers. Antennas are 4x NA4RR hexbeams at 40 feet each with Yaesu rotators, 2x inverted L's with remote MFJ 1.5Kw tuners for 40 through 160 meters and K9AY receiving antennas. The SSB team will also participate in the CQWW WPX SSB Contest, and also operate some additional CW and PSK.Both teams will be active from 160 through 10 meters. Daily free LoTW and Clublog uploads will be provided, and we will use the band-slot tracking feature in Clublog to promote a competitive spirit amongst the DX fraternity. They feel due to the extended 20 day operating period there will be ample time to work the "little pistols" as well as the band-slot chasers. QSL cards will be available after the event too - details of QSL manager route to follow.
9X, RWANDA
Gordon, K7TRB, will be active as 9X0VA until October 2014.
Bands and modes of activity were not provided, but he will use a Yaesu
757GX into a wire antenna. QSL via his home callsign.
A5, BHUTAN (Update to OPDX.1176)
Pekka, OH2YY (A52YY), updates OPDX
[edited]:
"Concerning the A52, there will be some changes. I'm very pleased to tell you that Pekka, OH1TV, will be joining me. All the travel and accommodation arrangements are OK for both of us and now we are in the process of reconsidering what equipment and antennas we will take with us. At least this means two radios and more likely also more aluminum in the air. I'll keep you posted." Just a brief reminder (see OPDX.1176) that Pekka applied for the same callsign, A52YY, that he used last year. He will arrive in Paro late afternoon on Sept. 26th, and will depart on the morning of Oct. 2nd. QSL checking will be on QRZ.com and on LoTW. QSL cards directly to his home address or via SRAL QSL Bureau.CY0, SABLE ISLAND (Press Releases/Updates)
August 16th -"The CY0C DXpedition team has been informed by Parks Canada and Maritime Air Charter that flights to Sable Island have not been possible the last few weeks due to the beach conditions on the island. The weather on Sable has been extremely dry and the sand "runway" on the island is too soft and loose to attempt landings. Even when landings were possible, the aircraft had to be lightly loaded. Parks Canada, Maritime Air and the CY0C team will continue to assess the weather and landing conditions on the island leading up to September 8th. Meanwhile, pre- parations continue on schedule. N0TG and WA4DAN have shipped gear and antennas to fellow team member VE1RGB in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The CY0C team will issue frequent updates leading up to September 8th."FS, ST. MARTINAugust 23rd - "One-Day DXpedition to Sable Island, CY0C, scheduled for Monday, September 8, 2014 -- A team consisting of VE1RGB, WA4DAN, and N0TG, each of whom have previously operated from Sable Island, plan to depart from Halifax, Nova Scotia, weather permitting, around 1115Z on Monday, September 8. Departure from Sable Island is planned for 2245Z, which should allow for approximately 8 hours of operating time. The special call sign, CY0C, has been issued for this operation.
At the moment, the policy of Parks Canada is that '... visits to Sable Island shall be restricted to daylight hours only...'
One of the objectives of the CY0C DXpedition is to assess the feasi- bility and practicality for future one-day amateur radio DXpeditions to Sable Island..
For this operation, N0TG will primarily operate CW on 17 and 30 meters while WA4DAN will operate SSB on 20 meters. VE1RGB will take the lead in assessing the operations and determine technical methods and opera- tional techniques to improve efficiencies. A detailed 'feasibility assessment' with recommendations that, hopefully, could encourage future groups to consider one-day DXpeditions, will be shared with the DX community.
Any last minute changes in schedule, due to weather conditions, beach conditions, etc. will be posted to the team website at www.cy0dxpedition.com, as well as to the various DX bulletins."
