GB7, ENGLAND (Special Event)
Bill Cross, G0ELZ, Chairman of the Marine Museum Society, Wallasey, UK, and David Oakden G3UFO, have announced that special event callsigns GB70BOA and GB70WA will be on the air between May 20-27th. The event will be hosted by the Marine Radio Museum Society (Wallasey) [resident callsign GB4FPR], at Fort Perch Rock New Brigfhton. Members of the Wirral and District Amateur Radio Club (WADARC), the Chester & District Amateur Radio Society (CADARS) and the Tall Trees Contest Group [G5D] (based in Cheshire) will activate GB70BOA from Fort Perch Rock at the Mersey entrance and GB70WA from the Leasowe Lighthouse. The activity is to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic.

Approximately 2,800 merchant ships were lost during this battle and 30,000 merchant seamen lost their lives. Similarly, 30,000 Allied Naval and Air Force personnel and 30,000 Kriegsmarine sailors also lost their lives. These numbers vary according to whose history of WW2 you read, and the above numbers are a rough average.

Operations will take place on all band 80-10 meters, as well as VHF/UHF operations on 144 and 432 MHz on all modes. This event is especially important to Liverpool and other Merseyside hams because the battle was commanded from the Western Approaches command and is now a premiere WW II museum in Liverpool. Operators are hoping to make over 2800 contacts during this period. A special QSL card is being produced in commemoration. More details can be found on (QRZ.com) as well as:

http://www.clanlinereunion.co.uk/BA70-page10.html

P5, NORTH KOREA PRESS RELEASE (Announcing the P5 Project - IDXC 2013 Convention in Visalia, April 20th, 2013), received from Paul, N6PSE:

"P5, North Korea is the most wanted DXCC entity world-wide. Today, the Intrepid-DX Group, in partnership with the World-Wide DX Group, is announcing our sustained and ongoing effort to activate North Korea.

For the past four years, we have been working with professionals in the business and tourism industries who are actively doing business in North Korea. We are leveraging their ideas and contacts towards our goal of a major Dxpedition over a four week period from within the DPRK. We are using the same techniques that were successful in opening up Kurdistan (Northern Iraq) South Sudan and Yemen to Dxpedition activity.

We have prepared a comprehensive, multi-faceted proposal, and we have delivered it to the DPRK officials via our Chinese emissary. Several members of our leadership and advisory team have made multiple visits to the DPRK and are advising us accordingly. We are making further plans to visit the DPRK in the coming months to further bolster our business contacts and to research and assess various venues.

We expect this ongoing project to require a sustained effort. We are committed to work as hard and as long as it takes to activate this rare and much needed entity. We will continue negotiating and flying into and out of the DPRK as needed during this process to lay the groundwork and to build the trust to ensure that a favorable outcome can be created. We want the DX community to be aware and to understand that a sustained effort is being made to activate this rare and important entity.

Thank you,
N6PSE AH6HY YT1AD K3LP -- The Intrepid-DX Group"

VU7, LACCADIVES ISLANDS (Lakshadweep Islands)
Krish, W4VKU/VU2VKU, reports on QRZ.com:

"Received permission from the Ministry of Communications, Govt of India to operate Amateur radio from Kavaratti, Laccadive Islands from Apr 23 to May 5th, 2013. The VU7 permission arrived a bit too late and plans are already firm to activate 8Q7KP from April 23rd to April 30th.

Unfortunately, getting to the VU7 island has become a challenge due to the non availabilty of seats via the overnight ship. There is just one expensive alternative, and I am looking into the logistics involved.

The plan is for SSB and some RTTY on 10-80m with a TS-480Sat and TenTec Hercules 2 amp using a Butternut HF9V and a 2ele steppir yagi + 30/40m trombone. Basically the same equipment in use at 8Q7KP.

Hope to monitor the cluster and possibly with realtime logging via Clublogs and the last 10 QSO's displayed right here on (QRZ.com).

Keeping fingers crossed and hope we will be able to work through all the logistic hoops to activate VU7KV..... 73s de Krish, W4VKU, VU2VKU"
