4JT, AZERBAIJAN (Special Prefix)
The Federation of Radio Sport of Azerbaijan has announced that during the period of February 14th and March 5th, the Azerbaijanian HAMs are permitted to add the special addition of the letter "T", which means "Tragedy", to their callsigns. For example: 4J7DL would change to 4JT7DL, or 4K3M to 4KT3M, etc.... The activity is to remember the 21st anniversary of one of the most horrific events of the 1990s, the "Khojaly Massacre", the biggest war crime in the area of the former USSR. QSL via operator's home callsign.

ADDED NOTE: On behalf of a group of Azerbaijani-Americans and their friends throughout the nation and the world, on the eve of the 21st anniversary of this tragedy, they hereby call upon you to help them commemorating Khojaly Massacre and its victims with a Presidential proclamation and submit a petition to the White House. Please go to:

5C, MOROCCO
Members of the URE Cartagena team will be active from the ARRAM HQ club station (CN8MC) in Rabat as 5C5T during the ARRL DX CW Contest (February 16-17th) as a Multi-Single/Low-Power entry. QSL via EA5YU, by the Spanish Bureau or direct. Operators mentioned are: Juan/ EA5BLJ, Jose/EA5CP and Jose/EA5YU. The operators will be there until February 18th, and plan to be active outside of the contest on 80-10 meters using 100 watts, CW only.

5X, UGANDA (Update)
Members of the F6KOP team will be going QTH as 5X8C on February 18th. If you did not make a QSO with the 5X8C team, you may have another chance with a 5X station. Reg, NH6T, who is also in Uganda building apartment units there, reports: "Had the opportunity to spend several hours with the huge group out at Country Lake Resort yesterday (February 10th) afternoon and it was probably the most ham radio fun for me of the past decade. This resort, which was several miles down a rutted dirt road, was a mammoth tropical paradise equivalent to most of our Hawaiian resorts other than the Hyatt Regency. The complete antithesis of HK0NA what with swimming pool and food/drinks at the snap of a finger.

The organization and operation of this undertaking would put most military campaigns to shame. The group is so well experienced that they had all antennas and six operating positions up and running in less than one day and an antenna farm which defies description. Thousands of feet of coax cable running every direction like spaghetti and antennas even mounted on the the ends of piers sticking out into Lake Victoria (the 2nd largest fresh water lake in the world).

One does not expect to see multiple four- squares on a DXpedition." Reg also mentioned that he received the callsign 5W1C, but has not been on the air much because of his work. He also states [edited], "I'm only working with an NVIS antenna strung along the hedges here, but with usable signals on all bands except 20M which is way down in the mud. .... I literally can't get a higher antenna up here on the estate because the trees are so thick and also covered with thorns. On my first try I wound up my trusty hammer weight for an underhanded throw and it went high enough, but unfortunately remained stuck in the branches." Reg also added that the F6KOP team tried to get his callsign 5X1C for their DXpedition, but were told they had to settle for 5X8C because Entebbe is in a different radio district than Kampala.

As this was being written on February 15th, the 5X8C log on ClubLog reports that the 5X8C team as made 70435/QSOs with 18896/Unique callsigns (35714/CW, 25869/SSB and 8852/RTTY) with 1056/AF, 0/AN, 6219/AS, 51747/EU, 10106/NA, 553/OC and 754/SA. To check your QSOs, go to:

Their activity will be on CW only on all bands 80-10 meters using 2 x K2s with 2 x KPA500 amplifiers to wire antennas. There will be no 160, 60, 6 meters or EME activity. Propagation permitting, they plan to have two stations on the air for as many hours everyday as is possible.

Their main objective is to work as many European, North American and ROTW stations on as many different bands as possible and plan to make at least 15,000 QSOs. They will always work split and listen between 1 and 5 kHz up. Subject to a reliable Internet connection, they will upload the log to ClubLog and the G3SWH Web site on a daily basis. Other- wise the complete log will be uploaded upon their return. The log will be uploaded to LoTW as soon as possible after they return to the UK.

Please make only one QSO per band. Making duplicate QSOs prevents someone else from making a QSO! Duplicate QSOs will *NOT* be logged. Believe your ears, not your Internet browser! TX5, CLIPPERTON ISLAND (Update)
The following update was posted on February 12th, on the TX5K Clipperton Island DXpedition Web page [edited]: "All the California equipment has been assembled and is on the truck. It will be transported to San Diego on Wednesday, Thursday, February 13th. The boat (Shogun, San Diego) will be loaded on Thursday-Friday, February 14-15th. The first half of the team will board on Monday, February 18th, and the boat will sail for Cabo San Lucas, to pick up the rest of the team.

We expect to arrive at Clipperton Island on February 26th. It will take at least one day to land and get the camp set up, so QRV should not be expected before February 28th. Please watch this site, the BLOG, and various news outlets for the anticipated start of operations. We look forward to having a rewarding DXpedition, and seeing you at the conferences later this year.

We will be hosting a Courtesy Suite after the DX Dinner at Dayton and a similar party at Friedrichshafen, so plan to come see us! Good luck to all who want a contact with TX5K! Be sure to watch it in real time with DXA
