LOTW UPDATE
Some may have noticed that the "Logbook of The World" (LoTW)
went off-line early last week. The ARRL Letter explains,
"ARRL Information Technology Manager Michael Keane, K1MK, is reporting that while Logbook of The World (LoTW) system is currently down, it is expected to be back up by 9 AM EST (1400 UTC) on Friday, November 9. 'While the system is temporarily down, radio amateurs are not able to access LoTW or upload their logs,' Keane explained. 'No data has been lost, and everyone's records are intact. We understand the problem and we are in the process of restoring service to LoTW. Since both the Logbook of The World service and the Online DXCC service are connected to the ARRL Awards System, radio amateurs are not able to access either service until the system is restored. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and want to assure the amateur community that the ARRL is working diligently to restore service to these popular programs.'"P4, ARUBA

"We landed on SPSP yesterday morning. After many difficulties we have raised our main antenna and have one station operational. Spent last night on 160 with mixed results. Local noise on the main TX antenna is S9+10 dB and we can only work stations with signals above that. It is like listening to the output of a switching power supply. Will try to build RX antenna today. Conditions are too rough to build the planned remote RX antenna. We must wait for calmer conditions to swim to the remote rock called Cabral. We have very limited Internet access so updates will be kept short..... AA7JV"PY0F, FERNANDO DE NORONHA

The USPS has proposed to discontinue the sale of International Reply Coupons (IRCs) due to the "low quantity demand by customers" but will "continue to exchange (redeem) international reply coupons purchased in foreign countries and presented at U.S. Post Office facilities". UNIQUE SPECIAL EVENT FROM ALASKA AND THE YUKON! "Yukon John"
KL7JR,
informs OPDX:
"Time frame is June or July, 2013. If you were planning a trip to Alaska or the Yukon, bring the family and make a vacation out of it. Special event will be 2 or 3 days long with other operating locations available (VE8RST etc.)... spend a day or as long as you wish! Callsigns used will be KL7RST and VY1RST. Several ways to get there: fly up to (Anchorage, Juneau or Whitehorse) and rent a car, drive up, ferry up from Bellingham, WA....etc. etc. I especially need a ham with CW or digital experience (prefer PSK-31) to man his own station. There is a hotel nearby so that's another possibility. I may come up solo in a motor home...not sure yet but could have room for someone to share expenses. One thing for sure, we will have an exciting time and I promise this will be UNIQUE!!! This could just be that mini-DXpedition you always dreamed of!!! Please pass on to anyone who may be interested. Specific details will be released later. Contact Yukon John, KL7JR if interested (kl7jrATyahoo.com)."V8, BRUNEI (Reminder/Update)
