1ST CANADIAN LICENSE FOR 60M
Industry Canada issued its first license on the new 60 meter developmental band, VX9GHD to VE3FI Russ Hemphill on April 4th. Canadians have been waiting for 3 years for this new opportunity to join the USA and Britain. This band is badly needed for Emergency Communications when conditions on 40 and 80 are not suitable for transmitting or receiving traffic. This license is for one year then it will be open to all Canadian amateurs using their own callsign.

9M0, SPRATLY (Reminder)
Members of the Malaysian Amateur Radio Transmitter Society (MARTS) and the 9M4SDX Team will be active this week as 9M0L from Pulau Layang Layang Island (Swallow Reefs - AS-051) near Sabah, East Ma- laysia, between April 10-24th. The current team consists of Tex-san/9M2TO (Project Coordinator), Neoh/9M2CLN (Team Leader Malaysia), Tack-san/JE1CKA (Team Leader Japan), Hajime/7K4QOK, Takuto/9M2/JE1SCJ, David/9M2PX, Yasuma/ 9M8YY, Nigel/G3TXF, Joe/JA1LZR, Miyama/JE1KUC, Naoyuki/JK1FNL, Hiroyuki/ JP1TRJ and Yutaka/JQ2GYU. Activity will be on 160-6 meters using CW, SSB and RTTY. They will try to have as many RTTY QSOs with NA/SA as much as possible. The team will have 4 stations using Spider Beams and a Layang Special. Suggested frequencies are:

E5 SOUTH COOK ISLANDS (Reminder)
By the time you read this, operators Graeme/VK4FI and Alan/VK4WR will be active as E51GMH and E51BKM, respec- tively from the South Cook Islands between April 8-27th. Graeme informs OPDX that they will activate Rarotonga Island (OC-013) and Aitutaki Island (OC-083). Their main band of interest is 6 meters, and for the HF bands, 40/20/17/15/12/10 meters. They will use an IC-706 and an FT-450 into a 5 element Yagi for 6m and a OCF Dipole. Modes will be CW and SSB only, no amplifiers - 100 watts only. E51, SOUTH COOK ISLANDS (Reminder)
The E51M DXpedition team, which will be going QRT - probably as you are read this, will be active as E51EWP from Rarotonga, South Cook Islands, again between April 11-14th. Activity will be on all bands including 60m, using CW, SSB, but with an emphasis on RTTY because there is a high demand for RTTY. QSL via DJ8NK, direct or by the Bureau. GI2012, NORTHERN IRELAND
Look for special event station GI2012MGY to be active between April 12-18th. Operations will be in Belfast from onboard the SS Nomadic - Titanic's 'Little Sister'. To mark the Centenery of the sinking of the Titanic, the City of Belfast Radio Amateur Society will be active on most HF bands using CW and SSB. The SS Nomadic is the only remaining historic link to the Titanic left afloat, and she is also the last surviving White Star Line vessel in the world. Like Titanic herself, she was built at the shipyards of Harland and Wolff in Belfast, Northern Ireland,and served as a tender to the Olympic and Titanic. GJ, JERSEY
Members of the Jersey Contest Group will be active as GJ2A from Jersey Island (EU-013) during the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 28-29th) as a Multi-Op entry. QSL via LoTW, or direct to GJ3DVC.

HH8, HAITI
Amadeo, EA3OW, is now active as HH8/EA3OW, from Jacmel in Southern Haiti until May 12th. Activity will be limited and during his free time because of his work. Operations will be on 40-10 meters using SSB, RTTY and other Digital modes. His equipment is a Kenwood TS-480sat and dipole antenna. QSL via his home callsign, by the Bureau or direct. IOTA NEWS
AS-079. Operators Takeshi "TAKE"/JS6RRR and Fusao "FUSA"/JA5DUR/JS6 will be active from Miyako Island (Okinawa) between 0900z, April 26th and 0000a, May 7th. Activity will be on 160-6 meters (including 30/17/12m) using CW, SSB, FM, RTTY and PSK31. In case of heavy rain or other conditions, the operation may vary. AS-109 (CANCELLED) It was announced that the RT9K/P DXpedition was cancelled because the temperature in Nadym was over 0 deg C and the snow is melting. The next few week's forecast also predicts higher temperatures which will weaken the ice for the snowmobile and tricky for a boat to navigate. The team has returned home to find a different method of transportation.

TJ, CAMEROON
Ivan, 5N7M/OM3CGN, is now active as TJ6RM until April 16th. Activity is on 40-10 meters using CW and SSB. QSL via OM3CGN.

VP2M, MONTSERRAT (Reminder)
By the time you read this, the "Buddies in the Caribbean", a mini-DXpedition group to Montserrat (VP2M), should be active now and until April 16th, with a new group of operators who have never experienced the "other side of a pileup"! Because of severe baggage limits on the flight from Antigua to Montserrat (one bag under 50 lbs!), they will be limited to 100 watt or less low power radios and the Buddipole portable antenna systems. They will have two of the new Elecraft KX3's with them and believe this will be the first DX- pedition using the new KX3 radio (Ser#23 and #24).

Yet their goal is to demonstrate "ultralite" DXpeditioning into magnificent "vista" locations, operating a field portable battery-only radio with backpackable, light- weight antennas and most of all "having fun" on the "volcano isle". The eight operators are: Budd/W3FF (VP2MFF), Guy/N7UN (VP2MUN), Paul/KB9AVO (VP2MVO), Larry/W7DGP (VP2MLR), Russ/N7QR (VP2MQR), Tom/K2GSJ (VP2MTM) and Chris/N2YYZ (VP2MYZ). There will be several villa stations in operation on 160-10 meters using CW, SSB, and RTTY or PSK. At the same time, several teams will be battery-only, field portable either from Montserrat beaches or scenic mountain tops. WH0, MARIANA ISLANDS
Masahiko, JH4VUC, will once again be active from Saipan (OC-086, USI NI002S, WLOTA 1333) using the callsign WH0VU between April 18-21st. Activity will be on all HF bands and modes. QSL direct to his home callsign.

XV2, VIETNAM
Larry, W6NWS, is back in Cai Be district, Vietnam, for a family visit until June 12th. Look for him to be active as XV2W during limited time on 80-10 meters (no 60M) using CW and RTTY, as well as SSB if noise in the house permits. His sunset is about 1120z and his sunrise is about 2300z. Larry states, "I am usually on .022 or .028 for CW and .085 for RTTY if they are not already busy. On 80m, I am usually on 3.512 MHz listening up 1. I am limited to 10.1 to 10.11 on 30m." QSL via his home callsign, by the Bureau or direct. Logs are posted to LoTW and eQSL usually within a day.
