100 POUND DXPEDITION (VP2M - Update/Reminder)
Members of the "Buddipole Users on Montserrat" (BUMS) will mount a DXpedition to the island of Montserrat (NA-103) from January 29th to Feburary 6th, 2007. It seems DXpeditions have now moved from Microlite to Ultralite. DXpedition team members will pack light for this DXpedition taking only lightweight transceivers and portable antennas. The maximum equipment weight taken to the island will be 100 pounds per person. With this lightweight equipment, the team plans many on island portable operations in the hills, on the beach, and from the volcano observatory on the southern part of the island.

2007 VISALIA INTERNATIONAL DX CONVENTION
The 2007 International DX Convention will take place April 27th, 28th and 29th, 2007, at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Conference Center in Visalia, California. This is an ARRL sanctioned convention that is sponsored this year by the Northern California DX Club. It is expected to draw visitors from around the World and will feature programs from recent DXpeditions and contest operations.

The Convention theme this year is, “Elmering New DXers is Job Number One!” Accordingly, a portion of the programming will be devoted to helping new DXers learn how to be noticed in a pile-up, snag a “new one” and get that elusive QSL card.

Other Convention offerings will include: DX, Top Band and Contest Forums, technical talks, many door prizes, both Friday and Saturday evening "attitude adjustments", Saturday Barbecue Lunch, Saturday night banquet, Sunday morning “power” breakfast, Vendors Exhibits and QSL card checking.

5H, TANZANIA (IOTA Op Cut Short!)
World traveler Vladimir, UA4WHX, informs OPDX, that he had to cut short his 5H3VMB/3 IOTA operation from AF-075 because of a major transceiver failure. His activity only lasted for two days before the failure. He is currently in Dar-es-Salaam looking to repair or replace his radio. He feels the radio may not get repaired and may try to borrow or purchase a new radio (or possibly invite someone to come and operate with him). Vladimir does want to travel to a couple more locations before returning home to Russia. If you can help Vladimir, let OPDX know and we will contact him.

9M8, EAST MALAYSIA
David, VK2CZ, will be attending an Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Region 10 meeting in Koto Kinabalu and plans to be active for a few hours during the CQ WPX SSB Contest (March 24-25th) possibly as 9M6/VK8AA. David states, "I've love to catch up with any ham in / around East Malaysia - given the hassles about securing my own 9M licence.."

9Q, DEM. REPUBLIC OF CONGO (Possible Topband Activity)
Philippe/9Q1TB and his friend/neighbor George/9Q1EK (VE2EK) were heard this past week. Watch 40/30 meters. Philippe mentioned that this past week George and he were conducting some encouraging tests on 160 meters after setting up an Inverted L this past Sunday (January 14th). He states, "The signals are not too open over Africa, but we've heard a lot of Europeans."

They hope to set a second antenna. Those who can access Google Earth, enter the following coordinates at: 4° 19'40.00''S and 15° 16'31.80'' E You can see George's house on the left and Philippe's on the right. The two operators share air time because their stations are so close; they also share a great part of their antenna systems. QSL 9Q1EK and 9Q1TB, via SM5DQC (only direct) to: Osten B. C5, THE GAMBIA

CN, MOROCCO
Members of the UA2 Contest Club will be active as CN2A during the CQ 160-Meter CW Contest (January 27-28th) as Multi/Single entry. The operators mentioned are Denis/CN2A, Victor/RV2FW (CN2FW), Andy/UA2FB (CN2FB) and Vladimir/UA2FF (CN2FF). This team scored three world records in 160m contests from C42A and 3V8BB some years ago. E2, THAILAND
Champ, E21EIC, informs OPDX that he will back home in Southern Thailand and operate as E21EIC/8 between January 19-26th (was recently in Vietnam). He was heard this past weekend on 40 meters CW. JA stations QSL via JR5XPG, all others QSL via his home callsign.

IOTA NEWS
NA-246. A team of XEs and Ws will activate Larga Island, February 23-25th. The callsign was not mentioned. However, they plan to operate around 48+ hours with 3 stations, CW and SSB. QSL via N6AWD.

OC-212. Nick, VK1AA, will be active as VK1AA/2 from Broughton Island, February 25-28th. Activity will be on 40/20/15 meters, CW and Phone. QSL via PO BOX 900, Spit Junction 2088 NSW, Australia.

SA-021. Members of the Bahia Blanca DX Group and Mistongo DX Tandil Group will activate Trinidad Island as LQ0D on February 2-4th. Trinidad Island is located in the Atlantic Ocean near Bahia Blanca, 3 hours navigating from Puerto Rosales, at 35km from Bahia Blanca. The ship will set sail on Friday, February 2nd at 6:00 am and will arrive at the island at mid-morning. The group will immediately start moving all the materials to the camping site where there are lots of bushes but no trees, no houses and no fresh water. The group will return on Sunday at 7:00 pm.

Activity will be on 80-10 meters including 17 and 12 meters (depending on propagation) on CW, SSB and the Digital modes. A special full color QSL card will be printed for this operation. QSL to the GDXBB Manager, Carlos, LU7DSY: PO BOX 709, ZIP CODE 8000, BAHIA BLANCA, Argentina. Argentinean stations will have to send a self directed envelope, with a 75-cent stamp. LX, LUXEMBURG (Special Event)
Members of the Réseau Luxembourgeois des Amateurs d’Ondes Courtes (RL - Luxemburg Amateur Radio Society) will activate three special event stations during the year of 2007. Activity is to celebrate Luxemburg being the European's Capital of Culture this year.

Look for the following stations to be activated by several operators: LX2007L (district Luxemburg), LX2007G (district Grevenmacher) and LX2007D (district Diekirch). MD4, ISLE OF MAN
Operators David/G3NKC, Peter/G4MJS and Martin/G4XUM will be active as MD4K during the CQ 160-Meter CW Contest (January 27-28th) as a Multi-Op entry. QSL via G3NKC. David, G3NKC, informs OPDX that the team will go to the Isle of Man on Thursday before contest. He states, "Hopefully, we will be on for JA sunrise before the contest, following many requests, probably using GD3NKC/P." QSLs for both callsigns should go to G3NKC. S21, BANGLADESH (Update)
The S21XA "Bangladesh 2007 DXpedition" is now QRT. The team pulled the plug Tuesday, Jaunary 16th, at 0000z with little more than 17,000 QSOs. They report that the S21XA team was tired after seven hard days of 24 hours/day of non-stop operations. The team is happy with their operation inspite of the bad propagation. They were able to provide a “new one” for a lot of operators and also help fill in a new band and/or mode QSO to the rest. QSL via EA3BT, either direct or by the bureau. TA, TURKEY
Ozer, TA2RC, will be active during the CQ 160-Meter CW Contest (January 27-28th) as a Single-Op/Slow-Power entry. QSL via TA2RC by the Bureau.

TZ, MALI
Operators Eric/ON4LN (TZ2T), Ivo/ON5CD (TZ1T), Stefaan/ON4FG (TZ4T) and Bart/ON3VK (TBA) will be active from Bamako, Mali, April 2-7th. The group plans to activate some prefixes that were never issued before. Activity will be on 160-10 meters on SSB, CW and Digital modes (RTTY, BPSK31, etc.) with at least 2 stations on the air simultaneously. Bands and mode will largely depend on the propagation. The aim is to activate the low and WARC bands, CW and digital modes as often as possible. QSL direct to ON4LN for all callsigns, or via bureau to their home callsigns. V2, ANTIGUA
Ed, N2ED, will be active as V26G during the ARRL DX CW Contest (February 17-18th) as a Single-Op entry. He will be there between February 10-21st. Look for activity on all the HF bands including the WARC bands before and after the contest. QSL V26G Via N2ED.

VK, AUSTRALIA
Tino, VK3EGN, will be active in the CQ 160-Meter CW Contest (January 27-28th) as a Single-Op entry. He states that he will be using a kite lifted antenna from Ocean Grove Beach. QSL via VK3EGN to the Bureau.

VQ9, CHAGOS ISLANDS
Larry, VQ9LA, will be active in the CQ 160-Meter CW Contest (January 27-28th) as a Single-Op entry. QSL via VQ9LA.

VP2V, BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS (NA-023)
Look for Steve/AK0M and his XYL Sandy/KC0RD to be active as VP2V/homecall from the Island of Anegada, February 12-18th. Activity will be on 40-6 meters, possibly some 80m operations if the antenna situation permits. Their emphasis will be on 40/30/17 meters, also 12m if the band is open. Operations will be primarily on CW, but with some possible SSB. Look for activity to be sporadic since this is a holiday style operation, but they do plan to be on the air at least 2-3 hours a day. Some limited time of participation, possibly 6-12 hours, and are expected in the ARRL DX CW Contest (February 17-18th), as a QRP entry. Their operating locations will vary between portable locations including the beach and from their living accomodations.

XT, BURKINA FASO (Update)
By the time you read this, the F6KOP ARS of Provins group should be back in Paris early Sunday morning, January 21st. Reports indicate that the team was very happy to excess their QSO goal. YW0, AVES ISLAND (Update)
The 4M5DX Group recently announced that a team of 15 experienced operators lead by Alex, YV5SSB, will be active as YW0DX from Aves Island (NA-020) beginning the second week of February 2007, for 10 days. Conrad, IT9DAA, the team's QSL Manager, reports that the last agreement with the Venezuelan Military Navy was to board for Aves Island February 7th (with operations beginning February 8th). Their departure day is still undetermined (the date could vary, between February 15-18th). The team has now put a survey (poll) on their Web site for band and mode needs. To participate, go to:

ZL, NEW ZEALAND
Bill, ZL3NB, will be active during the ARRL International DX CW Contest(February 17-18th) as a Single-Op entry. QSL via the LoTW or the Bureau. Bill hopes to achieve "WAS" via the LoTW!

ZP, PARAGUAY (Also HH)
Dale, N3BNA, will be active from here between January 23rd and February 6th. Activity will be from ZP6 and possibly ZP9 land, so look for him to sign ZP6/N3BNA and ZP9/N3BNA. Dale mentions that he has never worked a JA station on 160 and 80 meters, and would really like to work them. Also, look for Dale from Haiti as HH7/N3BNA between February 11-24th. Dale states, "In Paraguay, I will have a big station with power...In Haiti, it will be low-profile station with 100 watts or less...so not much chance to work JA from HH7...Maybe on 40m or 80m."
