3A, MONACO
Look for Tony/IK1QBT and Gianni/IZ1DFI to be active from here between October 21-22nd signing as 3A/homecalls. They will be using a Kenwood TS570, 100 watt (maximum legal power in 3A) to a vertical antenna multiband "Multicres". The only CW activity will be on all bands (emphasis on the WARC bands). 3D2, CONWAY REEF
Mats/5X1Z (SM7PKK) and Nils/SM6CAS have announced a DXpedition here in 2001. Operators Nils/SM6CAS, Mats/SM7PKK, Janne/SM0DJZ, Pekka/OH1RY, Siggi/TF3CW and Steve/G4EDG will be active between April 5-24th. Three of the operators have already been on Conway Reef once or twice, and the majority of team are well seasoned DX-peditioners. Please note that they are looking for 2 more operators to join the team! The DXpedition will feature 4 complete stations running 24 hours a day. All stations will have their own generators, amplifiers and Force 12 antennas. No callsign/callsigns were mentioned in the press release. They have secured a suitable yacht for the undertaking of this DXpedition. The estimated cost of the DXpeditioon is approximately 45,000 (USD). Any support from clubs and individuals are greatly appreciated. The complete press release will be sent to all OPDX InterNet Subscribers as an additional bulletin.

3D2, CONWAY REEF
Hrane, YT1AD, reports that he has organized an operation to Conway Reef from February 5-15th, 2001. The following operators have been mentioned: YT1AD, YU1RL, YT6A, YU1NR, Z32AU (YU1AU), Z32ZM and possibly one more operator from Central America. There will be three stations active at the same time, each with 1KW amp. Each station will have two 3 element multiband beam antennas, one vertical and wires for Top Band. The callsign will be publisized on February 5th, 2001. The licence was issued on October 5th, 2000.

4W, EAST TIMOR
The operation by Dennis/K7BV, Dick/N6FF and Made/YB9BV as 4W/K7BV and 4W/N6FF should be coming to an end by the time you read this. OPDX InterNet Subscribers will receive the latest press release by Rod, WC7N, as an additional bulletin, however, a log search is available on the Web at:

6Y, JAMAICA
Ron, 4S7RO, will be active on the air signing 4S7RO/6Y5. He has moved to Kingston, Jamaica, and expects to be here for the next two years. Meanwhile, Ron is not yet fully set up from 6Y5-land due to various shortcomings and inadequate equipment. However, he is working on it and hopefully will be back on the air very soon. He states that the local 6Y5 ham community has been VERY hospitable and generous. Ron plans to be active mainly on 20 meters CW/SSB (due to space restrictions). Unlike 4S7, Ron will sadly be unable to get on 160/80 meters. However, he may also try 6 meters and hopes to be able to work into the US! Also, his XYL, VU2MAB, will also be on the air from there shortly. So, YL award hunters...watch out! Those who worked him as 4S7RO on the various bands over the years and still need cards, please send them to Franz, DJ9ZB. However, when Ron does show up on the bands, please do not send cards to DJ9ZB as he is only aware of his 4S7 operations. QSL info is still not set. Stay tune.

9M6, WESTERN MALAYSIA
"The DX News Letter" reports that Peter, G4MJS, will be on the air as 9M6BAA on 6 meters and all HF bands from October 17-31st. QSL via G4SHF.

AH2, GUAM
Aki, JI3ERV/NH2C, Chairman of Guam Contest Club (GCC), informs OPDX that GCC will be active in the CQ World Wide DX Contest (phone) at the end of the month. The GCC, which was the Oceanic leader as a Multi-Single category in 1996, 1997 and 1999 (1998 won second place in the Oceania, as a Multi-Multi category), will try again this year to build on their Oceanic record as a Muliti-Single category using the callsign AH2R from Guam Island (KH2 - Zone 27, IOTA OC-26). Operators will be Aki, JI3ERV/NH2C; Kaz, JG3RPL/N1BJ; Seo, JR3RVO/WX8M; Toshi, JR7OMD/WI3O; Sam, JR8VSE; Koh, JH7QXJ and Noz, JE8KKX. QSL via JH7QXJ (direct or JA bureau, NOT KH2 bureau). PLEASE NOTE: The QSL Manager has changed. Their Sunrise/Sunset will be 2015/0755z. Also listen carefully for them between 7075-7100 kHz.

C6, BAHAMAS
Look for Gary/KI6T and Salvatore/KA6WHA to be active from October 25-30th using their homecall/C6A. They will also use C6AGS in the CQWW SSB Contest. QSL via home callsigns and C6AGS via KI6T.

D4, CAPE VERDE ISLAND
Alberto, IV3TAN, will be active from Sao Tiago (AF-005) from D44BS's QTH, October 22nd through November 1st. He will participate in the CQWW DX SSB Contest as a Single Op/All Band entry with the special callsign D4A. For all QSOs with D44BS callsign, the QSL route is via Angelo Mendes, P.O. Box 308, Praia - Cape Verde. For all Contest QSOs with the D4A callsign, QSL is via I2MQP.

EP, IRAN
On October 10th, Hamid/EP3HR and his friend Yar/EP3SP opened their club station EP4PTT. This club is working with a license from Ministry of Post and Telephone of Iran. This club will only be active on 14 MHz as their equipment is home-made. Their antenna is a dipole and the output power is only 20 watts. QSL via the Iranian Bureau.

EY, TAJIKISTAN
Nodir, EY8MM, reports that an International group will participate in the CQWW SSB Contest as EY2A as a Multi/Multi entry. This is the first ever M/M attempt from Tajikistan. QSL EY2A via K6VNX.

FK, NEW CALEDONIA
Franck, FK8HC, informed OPDX in the middle of last week that he would be active during the weekend on 160/80 meters SSB between 0700 and 1900z. Reportedly, Franck and Eric/FK8GN have put up new antennas for the low bands 2 miles away from Eric's house on a mountain for the CQWW contests and are trying them out. Since the weekend has past, you may want to keep a listen for possible future weekends for another operation to take place.

FO, FRENCH POLYNESIA
Joel, F5JJW, is currently active as FO0/F5JJW from Gambier Island (OC-063) until October 18th. Activity has been on 15/20 meters SSB. Look for him to move onto Moorea Island (OC-046) on October 18th through the 22nd and then from Tikehau Island (OC-066) on October 22-26th. QSLs via F5JJW.

FO, MARQUESAS ISLAND
Toshi/JA1ELY and Mako/JA1OEM are going to Nuku Hiva Island (OC-027) October 18th through 23rd. The two will operate as FO0ELY and FO0TOH. They will operate on all bands 160-6 meters and SSB/CW/RTTY. Because of heavy pileups for the KH5K DXpedition, they will use lower frequencies like: 14010/14145 etc... 160m 1832.5, 6m 50100, RTTY 14077 21077. QSL via their homecall.

FO0, MARQUESAS ISLANDS
"The 59(9) DX Report" reports that Phillippe, FO3BM, will be active from Nuku Hiva for at least a week between October 25-29th as FO0SIX, 6 meters only. He is planning activity for the Australs in March 2001.

FP, ST. PIERRE AND MIQUELON
Stan/AC8W, Henry/K8DD, Ken/N8KR and Kurt/W8IQ will operate from St. Pierre, October 23rd through October 30th. Wire antennas and four 100w transceivers will be used with an emphasis on CW and RTTY prior to a Multi-Single entry in the CQ World Wide DX SSB Contest using FP/N8KR. QSL via home callsigns.

HB0, LIECHTENSTEIN
There will be another Hungarian-German DXpedition to HB0-land which will take place between October 28th and November 4th. The QTH will be at a rented house on a mountain near Triesenberg at about 1300m above sea level. Participants are Kazik/DL2SBY, Tamas/HA4DX (ex- HA4GDO), Geza/HA4XG Geza and Laci/HA0HW. Three stations will be set up and two will work 24 hours a day, one with amplifier, on CW, SSB and RTTY on nine HF bands. Some satellite operations are also expected by HA4DX. They will have several monoband and trap verticals, yagi for 12 meters and dipoles for 80 and 160 meters with a 240m long bevarage for reception. Each operator will use his own callsign after HB0/ prefix, followed by /p. All QSL requests will be answered the same way as they arrive to the operators (either via DL and HA bureaus or direct to operators CBA). They state that they will be happy to give you a new one on any band or mode.

IOTA NEWS
NOT OC-125. Gary, DU6/K9AW, has informed OPDX that he and his QSL Manager Paul/WF5T have been getting queries questioning his IOTA number. Gary has only operated from Negros Island (his home) in the Visayan Island group OC-129. Someone has mistakenly spotted him on a DX PacketCluster as being on OC-125 in the Semirara Island group (also a DU6 prefix). He is sorry for someone else's spotting error. The widest dissemination of this information is greatly appreciated.

KH5/KH5K, PALMYRA & KINGMAN REEF (Update)
Garry, NI6T, reports that the motor schooner "Machias" departed Honolulu (not Christmas Island as reported last week) on October 10th, bound for Christmas Island in the Kiribati Republic with most of the DXpedition's equipment. The departure was a bit later than planned and will cause a delay in the planned rendezvous with the operator group which flies to Christmas Island on the 15th. They have updated their itinerary to minimize the impact on their stay at Kingman Reef. For updates, check their Web page at:

P4, ARUBA
Look for John, W2GD, to be active as P40W October 25-30th. This activity will include an entry in the CQWW SSB Contest. QSL via N2MM.

PJ2, NETHERLAND ANTILLES
Joeke, PA0VDV, is expect to be active from October 26th through November 15th as PJ2/PA0VDV from Curacao. This will be a CW only operation on all HF bands. GB0SM LOG ON-LINE. Tom, G0PSE, reports that the log for recent GB0SM St. Mary's, Isles of Scilly (IOTA EU-011) operation (September 29th through October 9th) is now available at: http://www.qsl.net/g0pse Thanks to Doug/N6RT the LogMaster. The log contains all the QSOs of the three DXpeditions (1998, 1999 and 2000). The log can be accessed for all three years by testing it with the callsign G0UKX. T88, PALAU
Hiro/JA1WSX and Toku/JA1QGT are going to be active from Palau (OC-009) October 27th through 31st. Hiro holds T88WX, but Toku will be issued a callsign after his arrival in Palau. Their activity will be on 80-10 meters SSB, CW, RTTY and PSK31. Hiro hopes to participate in the CQWW DX SSB Contest as Single Op/All Band. Toku will operate other bands and modes during the contest. QSL to their homecall via bureau or direct to CBA.

TI5, COSTA RICA
Carlos/TI5KD and his two Japanese friends Hiro/JA6WFM and Naomi/JM6EBU (YL) will participate in the CQWW DX SSB Contest as TI5WFM as a Multi Op/Single TX entry. Before the contest Hiro and Naomi will be active as TI5/homecall. QSL TI5WFM via JA6WFM and others via homecall.

TZ, MALI
Mac, TZ6JA, will be active again from Bamako. Mac will stay for one month beginning October 20th for a government mission. Mac will be active during the mornings (his time) on weekdays, but on weekends he will be on all time. Activities will be on 40/20/15/10 meters only. QSL via JA3EMU.

UA0, ASIATIC RUSSIA
Yuri, UA0SJ, reports that he will once again be active in the CQWW SSB DX Contest as a Single Op/All Band entry from Bratsk city (this 600 kilometers on the north side from Lake Baikal) QSL via direct only to: Yuri A. Maltsev, P.O. Box 2304, Bratsk-City, 665700, Russia / Asiatic /.

UK JOTA INFO

V6, MICRONESIA
Don't be surprised when you hear V6T1A during the CQWW DX SSB Contest. JA7HMZ and JA7KAC just received a notice from Micronesia Telecomm that their contest callsign V6A had been changed to V6T1A. QSL via JA7AO.

VK9C, COCOS-KEELING ISLAND (6 meters!)
Wal/VK6KZ and Don/VK6HK will operate as VK9CZ and VK9CK, respectively, next weekend from October 21st through November 4th. They plan to activate 50 MHz which will be their main interest with 28885 kHz available for liaison. General HF operation will be available, (50 MHz conditions permitting). If HF is used, look for them on 28485, 21285 and 14185 kHz. Other HF bands may be tried if time and antennas are available.

VK0, MACQUARIE ISLAND
Alan, VK0MM, announced this past week that he will try to be active on CW/SSB only on "20 and 30 meters as realistically possible over the final few weeks". He states, "please bear in mind that, as with all the other personnel on the station, I am VERY busy with my work programme here. My website will be updated with schedtimes regularly." The ANARE 2000 crew is due to leave on November 12th for home (via a 3 week voyage via Casey Station in Antarctica). There will not be an amateur radio operator on Macquarie Island for the year 2001.

VP2, ANGUILLA
Three members of the Southwest Ohio DX Association will visit Anguilla from October 26th through November 2nd. They will be an entry in the CQWW SSB Contest, most likely in the Multi/Multi class. The contest callsign has not yet been determined. The operators are: Harry/AC8G (ex W8KKF) as VP2EH, Joe/W8GEX as VP2EP and Ron/W8ILC as VP2ER. QSL to home callsigns; best direct with a SASE. Before and after the contest, they will be on all bands 160-6 meters, SSB and CW.

VP5, TURKS & CAICOS ISLANDS
The North Florida DX Association will be active during the CQWW SSB and CW Contests this year using the callsign VP5DX. Operators will be Steven/AB4UF, Dick/K4UTE, Ron/N4KE, Mike /N4EPD, Mike/NF4L and Jim/NU4Y. QSL is now via NU4Y. Before and after contest, operators will sign VP5/homecall. QSL to their home callsigns.

XU, CAMBODIA
Hitoshi, JE8XRF, is going to be active from here October 26th trough 30th. His callsign will be issued after his arrival in Cambodia. His activity will be mostly on 15 and 10 meters SSB. He hopes to participate in the CQWW DX SSB Contest on 10 meters Single Band. QSL via JA1ELY.

ZK1, SOUTH COOK ISLANDS
Jim, ZK1JD, reports that the Cook Island scouts will be operating during "Jamboree on the Air" the third weekend of October as ZK1BS. In spite of callbook or other info, the QSL address is ONLY: c/o J. Ditchburn, Box 491, Rarotonga Cook Islands. There is no QSL manager! It was also mentioned that "There is no longer an operating QSL bureau in the Cooks, so do not bother sending bureau cards for any ZK1 callsign." We hope to have more details on the status of the ZK1 Bureau next week.

Pre-announcement for DX-pedition

It is again time to turn the beams towards South Pacific.

Dates:
5 April - 24th April 2001

Covering 3 full weekends and a total of 19 days on the Reef. It also mean that we will cover the whole Easter week while on the reef ensuring maximum availability for all the Deserving.

DX-pedition plan:
This DX-pedition will feature 4 complete stations running 24 hours a day.

1 Station for SSB 20,15,10
1 Station for CW 20,15,10
1 Station for 40, 80,160, RTTY and 6-meter
1 Station for SSB/CW 30,17,12

All stations featuring their own generators and amplifiers. The antennas featured will be the highly successful Force 12 antennas previously used with additional setups for this DX-pedition.

As with previous DX-peditions made by our team you will be able to expect good coverage on all the bands for all areas.. Since Conway is once more high on the most wanted list in Europe that will be the main target area. However as proven during the T31T/K operation there will be good coverage also for those who are chasing band/mode countries... This time with one additional station and longer time on the reef.

Transport:
We have secured a suitable yacht for undertaking this DX-pedition already and we have main part of the logistical support that are needed for the operation. Downpayment for the boat is already taken care of.

Last report from the gents in East Timor. They will be off the air within the next eight hours.

Yes I know it was tough on both 80 and 160 today .(look at the latest number: SFI 92 A12)

Dick (N6FF) said the noise is really bad and to put frosting on the cake they have been on the emergency generator for the last several hours and so they have had to stay on low power.

Numbers up to about 1700Z today:

For those of you that have complained about the quality of their ears keep in mind they have to put up with the noise from several switching power supplies located near by which serve the many commercial operations in what is basically the same building. For those of you who sent me E-mails complaining they left 80 just when it was opening up, I have the same number saying they were on 80 when they should have been on 160. Seems they just can't make everybody happy.

In about 24 hours be listening up for YB/K7BV or YB/N6FF, it is possible, They can't be away from ham radio for very long, can they.

They will do their best to forward the final logs to us when they arrive in Bali. If you notice any problems with them don't hesitate to fire me off an E-Mail and we will see if we can't straighten it out.

Last report will be when I get the logs from Bali.

Mike, KH6ND/KH5, passes along this info. There are two operating positions on Palmyra, the "big" station and the "little" station. At the big station there is an elevated radial vertical for 160/80/40. To change bands requires going outside often in heavy rain and lowering the vertical and opening or closing jumpers in each wire. This takes 5-10 minutes and so Mike plans his schedule to stay on each band for some time. This means that requests for band changes cannot be accepted since too much time is lost going back and forth.

The RTTY rig does not have a narrow filter and hence RTTY operation is very marginal. Until the filter problem is resolved don't expect much RTTY.

Typically Mike says he starts on 160 about sunrise on the East Coast. Then he switches to 80 and finally 40.

During the day he is sometimes at the "little" station where WARC activity takes place. This station is only 100 watts with a BW broadband antenna. This operation is between other duties and is sporadic at best. Some days there is no WARC operation.

Mike says that 200/hour is typical on CW but he often calls CQ on SSB with no takers.

Mike will be joining the Kingman Reef team for that operation.
