2017 DAYTON (XENIA) HAMVENTION SITE. A Quad-Copter touring of the Greene
County (Xenia, Ohio) Fairgrounds, the new home for 2017 Dayton Hamvention:
              https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMLFWRyD4ZQ
The video (8:08 min.) was taken by Greg, W8WWV, on October 5th, 2016,
and is narrated by Tim Duffy, K3LR, from DX Engineering.

3B8, MAURITIUS. Willi, DJ7RJ, will once again be active as 3B8/DJ7RJ
between November 9th and December 6th. Activity will be on 160-10 meters
with a focus on 160m using CW and SSB. QSL via his home callsign direct.

3W2, VIETNAM (Update/Change). Mike, N0ODK, informs OPDX that will be in
Vung Tau (not Ho Chi Minh City as first annonced), Vietnam, and will
operate starting between October 22-23rd through November 4th. There was
a problem getting his usual callsign 3W2DK license, so the first part of
his trip the callsign will be something like 3W2DK/3W2LI until his license
arrives in Vung Tau. After that it will be 3W2DK and during the CQWW DX
SSB Contest. So, maybe listen on the air and/or check later on QRZ.com for
updated info. He will use his regular callsign as soon as he gets it. The
third problem he has is that Mike was told the amp in Vung Tau does not
work, and he was not given enough time to find out what parts to bring
with him. He will look there to see what he can do to fix it. Otherwise,
the rest of his trip is good using an IC-7300, with 100 watts, a seven
element tri-bander with wire antennas for the low bands. Activity will
be on 40/20/17/15/10 meters using SSB, with some CW and the Digital modes.
Also, remember to look for him in the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 29-30th)
as a Single-Op/Low-Power entry. QSL via N0ODK, direct, by the Bureau or
LoTW. He states on QRZ.com, "If you have different contacts with me as
3W6DK, 3W2DK, XV4MN, or N0ODK, please QSL in one package to save you time
and money and I can QSL all in one time. I collect QSL cards so if we QSL,
please QSL even if you do not need my QSL card. I will QSL if in logbook."

4X, ISRAEL. Dennis, W1UE, will be active as 4X0W during the CQWW DX CW
Contest (November 26-27th) as a Single-Op/All-Band/Low-Power entry. Look
for him to be active before and after the contest as 4X/W1UE. QSL via
W1UE.

5R, MADAGASCAR. Andy, OE7AJH, is now active as 5R8UP from Antananarivo.
The length of his stay is not known. Activity has been on 40/20 meters
using CW and SSB. QSL via his home callsign.

5Z, KENYA. Operators Reiner/DL7KL and Tom/DJ6TF will be active as 5Z4/DL7KL
and 5Z4/DJ6TF from Diani Beach between November 16-30th. Activity will be
on 80-10 meters using mainly CW and the Digital modes with some SSB (spare
time). They will operate 5Z4/DJ6TF during the CQWW DX CW Contest (November
26-27th). Operations will be with 500 watts into a R7 and wire antenna for
80 meters. QSL via the Bureau or direct to their home callsigns.

600 QSOs on 60m. They state, "We did well to Europe especially due
to the location here." The QSL cards are being printed.

6W, SENEGAL. Ronald, VE3REV, recently moved to Dakar in August, and plans
to be active as 6W1SU for the next 2 to 3 years. Activity will be on 80-6
meters, and he is currently operating SSB only, but hoping to tackle CW
later. His station is a Kenwood TS850S with a Yaesu FL1200Z Amp into a
MA5B three element yagi, a 6M 6JXXJ 6 element yagi and dipoles for 40/80m.

7P8, LESOTHO (Press Release). Gene, K5GS, sent out the following updates
[edited] during the past week on Pista, HA5AO, special callsign, 7P8EUDXF,
operation to celebrate the 30th years anniversary of "European DX Foun-
dation" (EUDXF): By now you may have seen Pista, HA5AO, operating as
7P8EUDXF on the DXCluster network.
His Log is posted at: Log Search / OQRS

Thursday, Oct. 20th, Update: There have been heavy storms for two days,
it started Wednesday afternoon. He's never seen so many lightening
  strikes within one minute.
Today (Thursday) the afternoon was not bad on 15m, his most productive
band. A storm is moving in as he's writing this update on Thursday after-
noon. The noise level still very high below 17m.
There is now a backup generator available, so power blackouts will
be just a couple of seconds as he does need to restart the station.
He is now on the air 2-3 hours a day, next week he will be on the
  radio more often

Tuesday, October 18th, Update: He reports a very high noise level on all
bands. On Monday, it was S7-9 on 20, 30 and 40M. Signals from EU were
weak, almost impossible to copy in the noise.
On Tuesday afternoon there was a nice opening on 15m but a power black-
out shut him down. Later that evening he went to 20 m, but there was an-
other blackout. He will continue trying 40 and 80m, hopefully he'll get
  a break in the noise.

COWS OVER THE WORLD (Update). Tom, KC0W, and his all-CW "Cows Over the
World" DXpeditions has posted (on QRZ.com) the following update, dated
October 22nd: I will be in the Philippines from 26 October - 25 November.
The callsign will be 4I7COW. This unique prefix has never been issued
before so it should generate some interest. I have not operated any CW
since Kiribati so 4I7COW should get me back into the CW groove.
The TG/KC0W DXpedition to Guatemala has been cancelled. This was scheduled
to take place immediately after the 4I7COW DXpedition. Perhaps TG/KC0W will
be QRV at a later date. My rental home on the east coast of Guatemala is 25
meters from the ocean. It's a 100% clear shot to Europe. (for whom this
DXpedition was/is primarily for) .
My plans are now to visit Equatorial Guinea on a fact finding mission
after 4I7COW goes QRT. Licensing for Annobon Island and Equatorial Guinea
will be the sole purpose of this trip. Re-read my previous statement
about "my plans are" before getting too excited about any upcoming 3C0
and 3C DXpeditions.........I hope to share some good news regarding
Equatorial Guinea & Annobon in the near future..... Tom KC0W

OJ0, MARKET REEF (Update). Martti, OH2BH, sent out the following press
release on October 21st (edited):

  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FROM ALAND ISLANDS, OJ0B AND OH0B
  OCTOBER 21.2016

MARKET REEF AND THE CQWW SSB CONTEST

Current high winds are eliminating the weekend landing to Market
Lighthouse. The team of ES2RR, OH2BH and OH2PM are stranded and on
  hold.
Nope say our brave captain Mats Sjostrom as the sea is rough with
high waves. Zodiac landing is opted out by already freezing seawater.
Next calculated narrow weather window would be Wednesday this
coming week where landing assumes favorable wind direction.
The group is determined to activate OJ0 in the CQWW. They are ever
grateful to the Finnish Lighthouse Society, FLS, for keeping the Light-
house manned until the finish of the contest.
If the group fail in their attempt they will settle in Aland Islands
and just swap one letter in their callsign.
Follow the life at Market Reef Lighthouse // waiting for CQWW.

REALTIME BAND CONDITIONS WEB SITE :
The purpose of this experimental Web site is to provide 24-7-365 actual
(REALTIME) band condition information to CW QRPp, QRPe and CW/SSB for
Contesters interested in increasing their scores. It can also be of
benefit to other Radio Amateurs to determine band conditions for Nets
and casual QSO's. This information is NOT based on any software pre-
dictions or any kind of satellite based readings. It is based on a
new Ionospheric sounding method called "HF Ionospheric Interferometry"
which operates very similarly to the PolSAR system used by NASA.
