T32C Bulletin #5 (Press Release)
Aloha from Hawaii.
Some of you have noted that our Advance Party on Christmas Island have been active from time to time this week, checking out propagation. We are delighted to see that the solar flux has been high and T32C has already worked Europe on 28MHz!

The remainder of the initial team is now assembled here in Honolulu and I write this immediately following a team meeting at which we have worked out the final details of logistics for getting to the island and setting up for what will still be a large-scale operation. We have 10 Yaesu FT-450 transceivers and eight linear amplifiers, along with the hardware to put up gain antennas for 10 through 80, and a big vertical for 160. We also plan to install Beverages for receiving. We particularly want to extend thanks to KH6OO and KH7U who have been a great help to us here on Hawaii.

We fly to Christmas Island tomorrow, and it is likely there will be no more operation until the weekend, as we get everything installed and ready to go. In any case, we will aim to post any breaking news to our website via the Captain Cook hotel’s Internet facility.

VL: OJ0 PRESS RELEASE
TODAY MONDAY, SEPT.26 ON MARKET REEF, OJ0X
Sorry for the sad news that Nigel, G3TXF cannot make it to OJ0. Its a magic place - you will miss a lot.

The team is in fine spirit and we have just up-loaded QSOs up to this point - totally 18,316.
And after all, we had succeeded with 2600 QSOs in CQWW RTTY, after terrible beginning.

See log search and more on OJ0X at (QRZ.com)

We were ready to start at 00:00z but with the first CQ the computer crashed and after restart microham did not work again. Took us hours to re-install everyhting but it did not help and after several hours we decided to go to sleep. In the morning Robert tried again and finally succeeded. We lost about 7 hours in the beginning and another hour when the Alpha 91B died and during short power cuts.

High bands were in good shape but hard to compete against all the high power stations in EU. Without internet and the possibility to find and work multipliers and without having a second station for multiplier hunting we do not have a chance for a top position. We simply could not get the second station working in RTTY.

Learning: Never use borrowed equipment in a contest that have never played together and not has been tested before

Now we are up to the last day. The weather is still fine but more wind is predicted so we hope to meet the next team; Pekka, OH1TV, Miika, OH2BAD, Ilmo, OH2BO and Tapani, OH5BM tomorrow as they have left Finland and should arrive in Alands early on Tuesday morning.

73 and greetings from the team
Dietmar
